I wanted to let you know about an awful experience we're having with our expat insurance and I need to let you know about this before someone else makes the same mistake we did.

As Americans, "pre-existing conditions" are no longer an issue under the ACA, but even prior to that, if you had continuous coverage - even if you changed policies or carriers - pre-existing conditions were covered. However, these companies DO NOT PROVIDE COVERAGE FOR ANY CONDITION YOU HAD PRIOR TO THE START OF THE POLICY regardless of continual coverage and despite the fact that their marketing ads state that they cover "chronic conditions."

Two companies are involved - NowCompare as the broker, and RegencyAssurance as the carrier (Regency for Expats). They charged us $11K for the year and now we find out that they will not cover ANYTHING related to any condition we were diagnosed with prior to the start date of the coverage. I personally have epilepsy, diagnosed in infancy, have had coverage with no lapses since then, and the insurance paid for my doctors, medications, hospitalizations, and tests related to my seizures. Now, all coverage is being denied. Since these expenses are the bulk of our annual medical costs, the coverage is essentially useless to us. We attempted to cancel the policy and get a refund for the remainder of the year, but they have refused stating that all of this information was given to us in the introduction brochure. I insisted that the information they provided wasn't clear. Instead of trying to help me, Ryan Underwood at NowCompare raised his voice and began arguing with me. He insisted that it was our mistake, that the documents are clear, and that the annual fee is non-refundable despite it only being March. So, now I'm making sure that everyone knows about this exclusion before they purchase so they don't lose the large sum that we did on essentially useless insurance.

If this doesn't apply to you and you're considering them anyway, please know that there are other issues as well. First, there is no phone number you can use to reach Regency. There is a single email that is answered by multiple people - or perhaps a single person using multiple names - and you are batted back and forth between these folks in the hopes you'll give up. You cannot reach the same person twice reliably and there is no phone number to call.

NowCompare finally called us - over a week later - and, rather than address my concerns, Ryan Underwood preferred to argue with me. He was clearly more concerned about being right than he was about helping us resolve the issue to our satisfaction. We are stuck with them for this calendar year, but I will never use either company again and encourage others to find other brokers and insurers. This is possibly the worst experience I've ever had with an insurer, and I'm a healthcare advocate with over 20 years experience fighting insurance companies on behalf of disabled people.

Great, efficient and professional service.

Helen, my advisor, guided me through the process very effectively and efficiently keeping in touch, including a reminder when I got slow due to separate circumstances. We didn't end up with first solution, which happened to be least costly, as it turned out my location was not close to services they provided. I am very happy with final outcome and thanks to Helen for great assistance with the search and decision making. I'll stay in touch for any further considerations.

Total scam. The people who have given five stars were happy to part with their money and received excellent service. They have not yet tried to make a claim and found out that they are not actually insured by any company that really exists.

Nowcompare.com isn't a comparison website. Its a lead-generation website masquerading as a comparison website. The website doesn't do any comparing. Give them your contact details at your own risk.

Have to say only one thing, they are the best , specifically gentlemen Sam Major he went through hell to find me and my wife best insurance, and we are family with complicated routes and even more complicated present.
When others said no !!! It's not possible.....
Sam said give me a day.... And usually it means you won't hear from them anymore... Day .... But ... Sam called me himself less than 7 hours later.
If there would be 6 star I would go to space to get it ... Elon I'm coming.
Family matters and health are most important things for me , and we are grateful to You NowCompare and Sam.

Terrible experience speaking to Kevin Recco and Jessica Olsen. I first got an email from Jessica about a 40% off discount and later found out it only applies to Regency. It also felt they are trying to push Regency and take other providers out of the mix which is always a red flag.

Kevin was then introduced to the email thread and after several back and forth he simply stopped responding. Completely unprofessional and can't imagine the post sales experience if this is what happens before you're even a customer!

Response rate is getting slower, and sometimes emails are getting ignored.

My agent was extremely knowledgeable, timely, friendly and responsive.

Your agents were prompt, efficient and courteous - and human !!

The team I worked with helped all the way. We had a problem trying to straighten out an application error from 6 years ago and the team worked with the underwriters to get it all sorted. Thank you Now Compare!
