This app is terrible! i rather stare into a wall for 10 hours then do this trash. It has a ai voice which caused me to mute since it is painful to listen to. When you get a question wrong they act like you just started the whole lesson. I do not recommend this app, if you are a teacher your student wont learn anything.

worst app in the world and stupid dumb annoying ai voice is telling me how to do this stupid peace of crap and bro if they do not delete this app I am going to file a lawsuit and sue this stupid company untell they go bankrupt and shut down this dumb ai that did not teach me a single thing

Lexia is often marketed as a powerful literacy tool, but in practice it can feel frustrating, ineffective, and poorly designed for real learning. The biggest issue is how rigid and repetitive the program is. Instead of adapting to how students actually learn, it forces them through the same drills over and over, even when they already understand the material. This doesn’t build skills — it builds boredom.

The pacing is another major problem. Some lessons drag on forever, while others jump ahead too quickly, leaving students confused or disengaged. The program rarely explains why an answer is right or wrong, so mistakes don’t become learning opportunities. They just become obstacles.

The interface feels outdated and clunky, especially compared to modern educational tools. The animations are slow, the audio cues get annoying fast, and the overall experience feels more like busywork than meaningful instruction. Many students end up clicking through just to get it over with, which defeats the entire purpose.

Teachers often report that Lexia’s data looks impressive on paper but doesn’t reflect real reading growth. The program measures how well students can navigate Lexia, not how well they can read in the real world.

In short, Lexia tries to be a one‑size‑fits‑all solution, but ends up fitting almost no one. It’s repetitive, unengaging, and often ineffective — a tool that creates more frustration than progress.

It is so annoying when you click on the wrong thing it blabs about how you should do better for like 50 minutes. Please do something or make the interface more exciting 🙏

I see that Lexia is trying to help people, and I respect that. This app is not particularly the one I would choose. Here are the reasons why:
- The endings and themes seem to really focus on cartoons and illustrations. This is especially in the beginning, showing 30 seconds of animated animals, and I feel like you are trying to make me feel like a 5 yr old
- The instructions and explanations take FOREVER to explain. The narrator just talks too slowly
- If I mess up, it requires me to do 8 extra exercises. That is EIGHT EXTRA EXERCISES!!! Then imagine messing those ones
- I have to do the same thing over and over and over. The other day, my friend was saying that he got the same question five times in a row
- It takes nearly 90 days (amount of time it took me to get through level 19) to finish one level. And there are 21 levels. My teacher boosted me up to level 19 after I took a test (thankfully 😫). The amount of days: 90*21 = 1890 days. Please, for our sake, lower that amount significantly
- I know everything here and all of the levels are exactly the same. It even has the same lessons. Only thing different is the background theme. Sometimes I feel like an AI in training
- My friends always complain that this is the most frustrating app at school. I literally LAUNCHED MYSELF OFF A STOOL while doing this app.

This stupid app teaches me nothing and if you get actually only 2 questions wrong, you have to do like a 5 year side quest that teaches you how to do the questions, and the stupid expressionless voice is unskippable so you have to wait 5 years to actually do the problems again.

(Rewritten a third time) Lexia is the most deplorable excuse for literacy practice that I've ever used. First we'll get into the functions, then the problems, and then we'll do my personal experience.

How it functions
Lexia puts you on a placement test at the beginning of each year. I don't know if you can reset someone's Lexia progress, but you likely can.

The placement test stays the same throughout your time using the program. The more questions you get right, the higher you'll place on the placement, which leads to you doing less Lexia. Or it can place you on a lower level, meaning you have to spend TONS of time on lexia.

After that, you have three options:
Comprehension, Word study, and Grammar.

Comprehension gives you vocabulary words and also gives units without you doing anything. The questions are typically easy and don't cause as much stress.

Word study is mostly trial and error, you can get questions correct consecutively, or you can make a simple typo, and you have to wait for 30 minutes to even DO anything. There also also timed tasks.

Grammar is the worst, it gives sentences and makes you highlight the correct words. And there are also timed stuff. (Like Word study)

Problems
Repetition is probably the most major problem, The program repeats the same questions, just in different formats. And that it makes one of the worst parts of this site.

In Grammar, two minor mistakes sends you to a side lesson with like 8 questions. Even worse, it doesn't even count for a UNIT. Would you rather take 30 seconds to Google the answers, or take 20 minutes completing the questions? And that in the "finale" One mistake, Back to the beginning you go and now you gotta do it again.

Comprehension is the only bearable one because it doesn't punish you for wrong answers.

The program had the choose the most monotone, soulless, robotic, slow voice that ever existed. They could've added human voices that would take longer, but it would make the program less boring and slow.

The length and pacing is another major problem, some lessons and units drag on forever, others go at lightspeed. Maybe fix the pacing so that all lessons and units are the same difficulty and length.

Difficulty is also major, some questions are so easy that toddlers can do it, others require an Einstein-level brain to complete.

The last major problem is their use of AI, in Grammar, this is ESPECIALLY true, It will mark your response incorrect even though you put the right answer.

Personal experience
I use PowerUp, and this program is widely hated at my school, This was basically made so teachers have an excuse to not teach. I don't use it because One, the teachers don't grade it. Two, they want us to get 20 units a week. Three, the program is ineffective and frustrating.

My ELA teacher said that the school spends $10k on this useless learning tool, yes, 10 GRAND. And my ELA teacher says that "It helps you! You ain't using it right!" For me, it doesn't, and the same with other kids at my school. Not saying it helps kids AT ALL. But, back to the topic And that sometimes she doesn't care about it, other times she places a heavy, heavy, and I do mean a HEAVY emphasis on this site.

My usage of this site began in 6th grade, I avoided it the first 9 weeks, but locked in on the next 9 weeks. They graded Lexia then, but they don't now. But in 7th grade, it wasn't great at the start, now I stand on everyone's statements. The only saving grace for this site is the music. But the point I want to make is that Lexia is an Ineffective, boring, repetitive program that works against you, hoping to make your grades suffer.

1/5 The worst program at my school.

Where do I start? I’m in 10th grade and I think this stuff is absolutely nonsense. It’s teaching me things I learned in 2nd maybe 3rd grade. The AI robot lady yaps NONSTOP and FOREVER. And out of all honesty? This application is AWFUL, worse than Iready. By a LONGSHOT. I would rather watch paint dry for hours than do this for 10 minutes. God awful.

it is very bad and ii don't want to do it anymore but I have to my friend punched his computer and it restarts you and its learning not good I need to focus on math but I hhvae to do this so it sucks really badly

The 2 minigames before you start learning is fun I speedruned both and got 30-40 points! And level 15th about texting the people and iguana was super cool! Thanks to some fun levels I could give it a 5 star but some was boring.

horrible app. I am trying to convince the school board to ban it. and DO NOT reply " we are sorry for your less than ideal expereance. we value your feedback and it helps us improve the app", YOU DONT, IF YOU DID THE APP WOULD BE SHUT DOWN.

When I accidentally clicked a button it made me go out of the game I went back in and my progress was reset. Also I doesnt help you with learning since i learned nothing

this made me dumber and i was chilling and i realized i need to do 30 min so i do the 30 min then is says i need to do 25 more min and 1 hour later i still had 2 min left total waste of my night

Oh my god, so bad, it does not let me be creative or free, it does NOT at all make me feel better with literacy, it makes me feel worse, the robot voices are awful. No freedom whatsoever, it is also just a waste of time and it makes me learn things I already know.

It sucks so bad the AI lady yaps forever and I was put at a third grade level mind you I’m in sixth grade and half of the time they’re giving me stupid nonsense words to spell out like what the heck is the point I literally have learning nothing from this stupid program. All I can tell you is if you’re a principal never pay for this program like mine.

this is the most boring slop ever dosent even help me learn i got the same scores on the placement test this year even tho i did it for 100 minutes a week for a whole school year. teachers if u think this is good all the student hate this app it dosent help them learn and some students are so done with this app they just play video games insted lexia just wants your money find and spend your money on a good fun learning app st.johns

Lexia powerup is the worst application published onto the apple appstore. it is an unreliable hot mess of buggy code. Monkeys with typewriters can do cleaner code then the 80 year old easter island statues Lexia has at their headquarters. This website makes me want to rip my pupils out of their sockets and run them through a paper shredder. I have learned more by language spawning in my brain like im a learning AI.

Fix your app, and actually teach students stuff.
