Absolute nightmare – Sold me an unroadworthy car with tampered DPF, now trying unfair deductions
I bought a used vehicle from KF Motors and within just 3 months and 10 days, it completely broke down requiring a full engine replacement. The car was clearly faulty from the start and not of satisfactory quality.
An independent inspection by IVIS revealed shocking details: the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) had been tampered with (illegal in the UK), and the car had undergone a previous inspection earlier in 2025 that already flagged this issue. They confirmed the vehicle was unroadworthy and faulty at the time of sale. It’s obvious a dodgy MOT was arranged to hide these serious defects before handing it over to me.
Throughout this ordeal, KF Motors provided zero help or communication – no support, no goodwill, just ignored my attempts to resolve it.
After seeking advice from Citizens Advice, it’s been confirmed the garage is liable under the Consumer Rights Act 2015. I’ve now rejected the vehicle and returned it, but they’re trying to apply massive unfair deductions from my refund, claiming all sorts of new “issues” with the car that are complete lies – clearly an attempt to cover their own repair costs or reduce what they owe me.
This has been an expensive and stressful experience. I strongly recommend staying clear of KF Motors / KF Car Sales – do not risk buying from them. Get any car independently checked and avoid this place entirely.
