Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 95 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers reported significant issues with the vehicles, including poor build quality, old models, and numerous defects such as non-working stoves, blocked sinks, and missing items. Reviewers frequently encountered mechanical problems like faulty brakes, non-functional heaters, and issues with electrical systems, which often led to breakdowns and ruined trips. The customer service was widely criticized for being unhelpful, unresponsive, and lacking follow-through, with many feeling that management did not take responsibility for the problems. Conversely, a small portion of people felt satisfied with their experience, noting friendly staff, easy pick-up and drop-off, and comfortable vehicles that were well-equipped and easy to drive. Some also appreciated the design and agility of certain campervan models, finding them suitable for their travel routes.

If I could give 0 stars I would

If I could give 0 stars I would. There was a mouse in our van and the power didn’t work. They didn’t want to offer any compensation nor pay for the powered campsites we paid for even though the van’s power didn’t work. The customer service is awful and trying to scam with bad replies and gaslighting. Could never recommend them.

DO NOT BOOK,

DO NOT BOOK,
Horrible experience with Juicy campervans in Perth. The van was clearly poorly maintained from the start, The table was completely wonky, the sliding door never properly shut, and the van constantly beeped for hours because it thought the door was open. The central locking system randomly locked and unlocked itself every few minutes while we were travelling through remote areas, which made us feel unsafe due to staying in free campsites a lot.

one of the wooden interior panels collapsed in the middle of the night with a huge bang, and the fridge completely malfunctioned, turning one compartment into a freezer while the other stopped cooling altogether. The electronic controls did nothing, as did the staff.

Customer service was beyond a joke. The helpline was based in New Zealand how ridiculous is that, and the person we spoke to was no help. We were told we could contact the Perth office if anything went wrong, but once we left there was seemingly no way to get in touch with the people who actually gave us the van.

Overall, the campervan felt unreliable, poorly maintained, and stressful to travel in, All I can say is AVOID AT ALL COSTS

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. I would give this 0 stars if i could. Very disappointing experience with JUCY and would never use them again.
Our campervan had constant issues for most of the trip. The sliding door sensor continuously beeped while driving for nearly two weeks, the door lock was faulty and regularly locked us out or unlocked itself overnight, which felt unsafe. The fridge was also unreliable, randomly freezing food or changing temperature overnight and ruining food.
Customer service was terrible. We tried contacting support while travelling remotely in WA but calls kept dropping out, and later we were told there was “no record” of the issues despite discussing them when returning the van.
For the price they charge, the quality of the van and customer service was nowhere near acceptable. Definitely overpriced and not worth it.

AVOID AT ALL COST!!

I rarely leave reviews like this, but this was honestly one of the worst rental experiences I’ve had.

We paid close to $2000 for a campervan and received a vehicle in very poor condition. From the start, multiple things were not working properly:

The fridge didn’t work, which resulted in us having to throw out food worth around $150
The diesel cap was faulty, meaning we were actively spilling diesel while driving – not only wasteful, but potentially dangerous
We were told at pickup that the AdBlue sensor was faulty but that the tank had just been filled. When returning the vehicle, we found out this same story had been told to all other customers, who were all expected to buy and refill AdBlue themselves

Throughout the trip, I was in contact with their team via email about these issues. Despite the clear inconvenience and costs on our side, no compensation was offered at any point.

The final issue—and the most frustrating one—was the wireless charging dock in the dashboard. It overheated a phone to the point where it was too hot to hold. We tested it again with another phone and the same thing happened. The result was a damaged camera, confirmed by two independent repair specialists as being caused by overheating.

JUCY has completely denied responsibility, claiming no fault was found. They also refused to provide any inspection report or details on how this was tested, while simultaneously calling their decision “final.”

What’s most disappointing is not just the issues themselves, but the way they were handled:

Problems were dismissed rather than properly investigated
Communication felt dismissive and procedural
No accountability was taken, despite multiple faults during the rental

For a company operating in this space, this level of service and vehicle condition is simply not acceptable.

I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

Yes to Crib, but check EVERYTHING first! (+ Louana is a babe! )

The bed in the crib was much more comfortable that we prepared for, I traveled with a 6.3" partner and while it was snug, it wasn't overly ridiculous. We really enjoyed the ease of the crib, it was easy to drive and had great acceleration, and it allowed us to move with good agility in a way we wouldn't have been able to on our specific route if we did have a bigger vehicle/caravan. The crib is well designed but quite poorly maintained, a lot of the clips for the blinds either don't pop or don't even have a popper left. It wasn't much of a hassle though, I recon having driven two separate ones over the course of 3 weeks in NZ one of the changes I'd make if I hired again would be getting the lowest insurance package instead of the most expensive one. I recon it's also helpful to note that the reviews are inconsistent because the vehicles are inconsistent - they look the same but they are quite different inside - so if I was going to hire again I would plan for an extra 30-45 minutes at collection to CHECK EVERYTHING - fold out the bed, pop the blinds, check the fridge, windows, turn it all on - engine, lights, the lot! We didn't do it to this extent but when we did find a problem with our first allocated vehicle at Auckland Airport the most wonderful staff member, Louana, helped us switch with significant ease to a second vehicle that we had no problems with. I give the company and the Crib 3 stars, but I give Louana 5!

Beware of renting a Jucy Chaser campervan

Beware of renting a Jucy Chaser campervan – or perhaps any of their vehicles. We had a rental organized for 28 days (Feb/March 2026) and only ended up with a fully functioning campervan for about 6 of those days. For at least 3 weeks of our rental we worried daily about what was going to break next. Issues with the first campervan rented in Christchurch: it broke down 4 days into our trip, was towed and held overnight to have the alternator repaired; the battery died a second time 3 days later and road side assistance charged it up, the pump failed the day after that. We were forced to go to Queenstown, which was not on our itinerary at that point, and they swapped up the campervan. Issues with second campervan: no bug screens in sand fly country, the water hose into the camper water supply completely broke on the 3rd day, the shower would not drain so the shower and toilet area were unusable. We again returned to Queenstown and spoke with the manager; the water hose was replaced and shower lines flushed. Several days later we found that the shower still would not drain, we managed to manually drain it but could not use it for the rest of our trip; the toilet cassette seal was not working properly so we had waste in the cartridge area that had to be cleaned out daily and the campervan started smelling rank from that as well as the poor drainage in the shower piping. The manager in Queenstown kindly reimbursed us for expenses incurred when we had the first campervan towed as we had heard nothing at that point (2 weeks into our trip) from Customer Service. We have since contacted the company twice regarding our dissatisfaction and have heard no response. While the local personnel are friendly and helpful, overall, the campervan was not serviced proactively and totally unreliable.

Worst quality you can imagine, and then some.

Absolutely horrible quality. We rented a car with rooftop tent, and one of the sliding side doors wouldn't shut. We called in expecting to be able to get a technician or an approval to bring it in for repairs at a mechanic and get it reimbursed.

Instead were offered to "duct-tape" the door shut?!? A mobile technician would be with us in a couple of days - but they never contacted us again.

After handing the car in, I was offered a discount for a next trip, velocity points, or 55 AUD refund (?!?).

If you're looking for quality, you're not looking for JUCY. Take your business elsewhere.

Very disappointing experience

Our experience with renting a campervan with Jucy in New Zealand was not so good and I would generally not recommend renting a campervan with them. The campervan we got when we started our trip in Christchurch had a lot of defects, including a non-working stove, a very blocked sink (which is obviously a big problem when cooking 3 meals per day in the campervan), some curtains which could not be closed, some missing items (pan, storage items, etc) and some other minor issues. We spent a lot of time of our holidays trying to fix these issues ourselves and we also asked for some support from Jucy. They did provide support and it was fine. They suggested to get assistance somewhere but we declined because we did not want to spend some precious time of our limited holidays driving somewhere and spend hours there to get the issues fixed. We preferred to live with the issues instead.
The question is how come can they provide a campervan with so many issues from the start? There is clearly a bad job from their side in checking the vehicles before giving them to their customers or maybe they just don't care?
At the end of the trip, I asked for a compensation and they refused to give anything, arguing that they could not compensate because we declined the assistance they offered. I tried to explain them many times that the campervan had defects from the very start of our trip and that it was not like if the defects happened during the trip, but they insisted that no compensation was possible. Very disappointing, I think they should have made a gesture and give at least something symbolic.
If I had to rent a campervan again in New Zealand, I would not choose Jucy again.

We had an extremely disappointing…

We had an extremely disappointing experience with JUCY, and I would strongly advise others to think twice before renting their vans.

From the start, their van was clearly not in proper working condition. The alternator was faulty, which led to multiple breakdowns during our trip. We were first stranded in Harihari for hours with little meaningful help. The roadside assistance sent by JUCY was completely inadequate—they didn’t properly assess the issue and just attempted a jump start, which obviously didn’t fix anything.

Because of this, we were forced into unplanned, paid campsite stays and had to go out of our way to find help ourselves. Even after a temporary battery charge from a local mechanic, their van broke down again within 30 minutes because the alternator was never fixed. We ended up needing multiple tows and lost entire days of our trip sitting around garages waiting for repairs.

Throughout all of this, JUCY’s communication and support were extremely poor. We were left to deal with the situation ourselves most of the time, which is not what you expect when renting a vehicle for a road trip.

On top of the major mechanical failure, the overall quality of their van was below expectations. The fridge only lasted a couple of hours when not plugged in, making it unreliable for travel and adding further inconvenience.

Due to the time lost dealing with breakdowns, we had to completely miss key destinations like Abel Tasman and Arthur’s Pass—places we had planned our trip around. This was incredibly frustrating and disappointing.

Overall, this experience felt like we were given a poorly maintained vehicle and then left unsupported when things went wrong. It significantly impacted our trip, cost us extra money, and caused unnecessary stress.

I would not recommend JUCY based on this experience.

Terrible customer help

We rented a campervan from Jucy in Australia, and unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing.

While the staff were polite in communication, the actual customer support was extremely poor when it mattered.

During our trip, we encountered several serious issues with the vehicle:
• Water leakage, leaving us without access to water
• A non-functioning toilet
• Incorrect wheel alignment (the vehicle pulled strongly to the left)
• Steering wheel vibration at speeds above 80 km/h

We reported these issues early in the trip and were repeatedly told that assistance was on the way. Based on this, we stayed in Albany longer than planned. However, after days of waiting, multiple calls daily, and ongoing email communication, no real help ever arrived.

The situation lasted six days, and in the end, we had no choice but to solve everything ourselves, including visiting workshops and purchasing a replacement toilet. Even the mechanics we visited questioned how the vehicle could have been rented out in that condition.

This caused significant disruption to our trip, additional expenses, and unnecessary stress.

On top of that, we are still dealing with an unresolved financial issue: A deposit of appx. 300 USD is still not received.

We have contacted Jucy multiple times and have only received the same standard response about processing times, without any actual resolution.

Our overall impression is that while communication is friendly, there is a lack of real follow-through and responsibility when problems arise. Delays in assistance and refunds give the impression that customers are expected to eventually handle issues themselves or give up.

We cannot recommend Jucy based on this experience.

The vehicle broke down and they left us stranded for 12 hours.

The vehicle broke down and they left us stranded for 12 hours.

We broke down in the middle of Dunedin at about 8.30 in the morning. We called the customer service and they are probably the most incompetent people I have ever encountered. They had a hard time understanding what the problem with the car was and I had to explain it multiple times. They constantly put us on hold. Finally they send for a road assistance guy who confirms my story, the throttle body was full of dirt and one of the cylinders had seized but they don't even listen to him. A seized cylinder isn't exactly a problem you get by just ignoring your maintenance.

They tell us they will call us back in a few minutes and that we are on their "high priority list". We then hear nothing from them for 90 minutes and then they tell us that instead of sending us to a local workshop that will have us going in a few hours, like the road assistance guy recommended, that they will send a tow truck with a replacement vehicle from Queenstown. Thats 3 hours away. They told us that they will email us the tow truck drivers contact information and that he will arrive at around 5pm.

We then hear nothing until we get a email at 3.40pm where they tell us the tow truck drivers contact information and that he will soon pick up the vehicle IN QUEENSTOWN AND WILL ARRIVE AT 8PM.

Upon talking with the tow truck driver I get informed that JUCY initially called him and told him that a vehicle would be ready for pick up in Queenstown at 1pm but that they would be in touch. They later called him AT 2.30PM TO ASK HIM TO PICK UP THE VEHICLE. Unfortunately he was on his way to another job so instead of calling someone else they just told him to do it after he was done with this other job.

And after all this they want 75NZD in administrative fee for using their useless customer support.

We lost a whole day on our trip being stranded and payed 1500SEK in phone bills just to be put on hold. They did however offer us compensation for one lost day which equaled in about 1000SEK. That doesn't even cover the phone bill.

And most of the privacy protection has broken buttons so people can see inside and sunlight gets through. This was a issue in both vehicles. We also had no cutting board in the replacement vehicle.

We are 19 years old and no other company offers their services to people under 21. If you are under 21 and thinking about van life in New Zeeland with JUCY Rentals, don't.

run away

We were doing a short 5-day road trip between Sydney and Brisbane. When we picked up the vehicle, the battery was already dead. I asked at reception to have it restarted and whether that was normal. The staff member assured me the battery was new and just needed time to get going, an explanation I didn’t really believe, but I went along with it.

In total, the battery failed 6 times (we were forced to throw away all the groceries we had stored in the fridge). On top of that, the battery was poorly positioned in the vehicle, which could have been extremely dangerous in the event of an accident.

We had to rely on passersby to help us several times, which caused us to lose a lot of time on such a short trip. It also forced us to stay in paid campsites just to make sure we had access to assistance, and to top it all off, we even had to take Ubers to get into town!

The sixth time the battery died, we had to call roadside assistance again to have it permanently replaced (and the day before, that same assistance service never showed up despite being scheduled).

We sent emails trying to resolve the situation, but the company never even bothered to contact us after all these issues. With no response, I feel compelled to share my experience.

Not an honest company to deal with

Not an honest company to deal with. Useless when I had a breakdown, poor followup, didn't bother to read their own notes, re contacts etc..., and "proactively" claimed the 5000. AUD excess bond (in lieu of thier insurance) in "anticipation" of damages, another fee I had already paid, etc.. (of which there were none) after I had left the country.
Throughout my "in travel" communications with them via thier portal, they maintained 2 separate strings of email via which they told me two different things, when they finally responded.
Loved the campervan experience; it was an older vehicle but functioned well, and the bedding was nice. That said, would NEVER book with Jucy again and do NOT recommend them.

Safety issues and no response to feedback

I hired a Hi Top Camper and it cost me $3,342 from 2 January 2026 and returned it on 9 January 2026.

There were many issues which I advised the attendant upon my return and he was going to provide feedback and I requested some sort of compensation for customer goodwill. It is now two months down the track and I have heard nothing.

I am a mature woman and booked the Hi Top Camper so I could have a lounge section "downstairs" and use the bed "upstairs" however this was not possible as there was a tiny foot rest which I was unable to reach and no hand rails to get up and down. This resulted in me nearly falling and it is a significant safety issue. So the 'upstairs' bed was not used and I had to use the bed 'downstairs' which was not what I wanted, nor would I have hired the car.

During a storm water got in on two windows wetting my belongings.

The fridge door kept opening and I lost over $200 of food and then I was unable to use the fridge, so it cost me extra to buy food.

The battery went flat and there was no physical manual. When the battery went flat I was in an area with no reception, this was frustrating as it was difficult to locate the battery to get jump started. I had requested for a manual and I was told flat out, that this is not possible.

The back curtain clip was broken which meant I had no privacy.

The car was old and struggled up and down hills and the steering is sloppy.

I also slipped on the back step as there are no handles to step down. Another safety concern.

I also hit my head on the low level area at the tail gate, there are no warning stickers. Another safety concern.

The van was not fit for purpose, I lodged a complaint the day I delivered it and I am still waiting on a reply. To top this off I received an email from Jucy that I went through a toll however on my maps I put to not travel in toll areas. Jucy have since taken this money out of my account and I have heard nothing.
