Travvia seller NOT trusted
We found a motorhome seller via Trade Me called Getaway Motorhomes.
Getaway Motorhomes is owned by the JUCY holding company, Travvia.
They behaved in a very unfair and untrustworthy way. They repeatedly assured us that our vehicle would be ready, but after four days of delays, they stopped responding altogether. On the final day, they sent a vague message about issues with the car and then never answered our calls again. Overall, this situation cost us more than NZD 2,000.
Horrible !
Horrible !
Old camper van, no safety, no good customer service.
If you don’t have problem, it’s great. If you want to be safe and secure, go away!
Actually brutal
Actually brutal. The camper was so old, which actually wasn’t horrible just not what was expected. It was so loud while driving that you were unable to hear each other talking or music at max blast. We went two hours out of our way to dump the septic (FYI NONE in Sydney) they charged us anyways AND charged us 200x increase the toll fees. It was wild. When we asked for more information they sent us a photo of someone’s else’s poop stained toilet 😵💫 worst experience.
Also, the trailer was not ready for 5 hours after the time we paid for so that was fun too.
Cheap, not perfect, but better than I expected after seeing these reviews!
The reviews here are generally very negative, but my experience was not that bad. Yes, they are a little shambolic, don't answer that rapidly, but their vehicles are not all bad. Mine was a "Condo" camper and I chose it as it had 2 separate good sized beds. It is not the quality of a typical[ical European camp, but was not bad and well thought out. The fridge partly froze produce after 2 days, but the main gripe was a weak motor that could not climb hills and lousy fuel consumption, of which I informed them. The vehicle was clean (apart from a dent).
Jucy are cheap and cheerful, with ideas they put into action. They can be improved, but are not that bad.
DON’T BOTHER! BOOK ELSEWHERE!!
The awning was missing a screw which wasn’t a massive deal, but did need replacing so we could use it.
However, after a few calls & emails, we arranged for a repair whilst the RV was parked on site, but no one turned up!
All subsequent emails were ignored.
Not great when you’re dealing with 40 degrees of heat!
Once they’ve got your money they’re not bothered anymore.
No one was interested during or post our hire period. Definitely would NOT recommend. Find someone else with better customer service reviews.
Understaffed
Understaffed. Terrible support. Car broke down and the experience was horrible wasted a whole day of our trip.
Worst Rental Experience Ever – Unsafe Vehicles, No Support, and Shocking Hygiene Issues
I rented a campervan from Jucy in Auckland and it turned out to be the most disappointing and frustrating rental experience I’ve ever had.
Our first van already had around 350,000 km on the clock, and you could feel every single one of them. The suspension/foundation was in terrible condition — every bump in the road sent passengers in the back flying. During the very first rainy night, we discovered that the van was leaking in multiple places, leaving the beds soaked.
We tried calling Jucy several times, but nobody picked up. With no support available, we had to interrupt our trip and drive all the way back to Auckland to report the issue. The van couldn’t be repaired, so we were given a replacement — which unfortunately wasn’t any better.
The second van seemed uninspected, uncleaned, and poorly prepared. The fuel tank was only half full, and once we reached a campsite, we discovered the gas bottle was completely empty, leaving us unable to cook or heat water. Again, during rain, water entered the vehicle. Not as severe as with the first van, but still unacceptable.
Every attempt to contact customer service from that point on was ignored. The only communication we received was the approval to reimburse the gas bottle refill — but we still had to take care of everything ourselves.
The worst shock came at the end of the rental: during the return inspection, we were told that the toilet was full and hadn’t been emptied. We never used it. This means we spent five weeks traveling with a toilet full of other people’s waste. Absolutely disgusting.
We had booked the van including the highest service package, which promised several things — such as a working heater and a full gas bottle at pickup — that were simply not provided. And despite all the issues, we were still asked to pay an additional 200 NZD cleaning fee.
This experience was beyond unacceptable. Poorly maintained vehicles, zero customer support, unfulfilled service promises, and severe hygiene failures. I strongly advise anyone considering Jucy to think twice.
Multiple issues
Toilet leaked urine into the bathroom. Roof leaked. Gas heater stopped working. We didn't report this during our trip but did so when returning the motorhome. Employee told us that we should apply & receive compensations because what we experienced was not good enough. However management thought differently - because we didn't report it IMMEDIATELY we were not entitled to any compensation refund. Disappointing in not only the motorhome itself but the after care management.
Won't be using this company again unfortunately
This was the holiday from hell thanks…
This was the holiday from hell thanks to jucy
Just as we had arrived at Darwin Airport the day before picking it up, we received a call saying they had issues with our campervan, so they were upgrading us to a larger model campervan (which would be more expensive on fuel).
The next day we arrived to pick up the vehicle, and it wasn't ready, so we waited for two plus hours until it was. From there, we went to our first stopover about half an hour out of Darwin. We connected everything up, and to our dismay that night, the air conditioner was making a noise like a tractor/aeroplane engine, which we consequently taped. So, then a sleepless night ensued until we could finally turn it off around 3 am when the outside air had cooled.
At 7 am, we headed back to Darwin, where we waited till after 9.30 till someone arrived and attempted to fix it. We believed it to be a lot better, but obviously it wasn't under any heat stress at the time of morning.
Our next stop was at Kakadu. I first had to purchase a new hose connector, which they charged $9 for at the caravan park shop, as we didn't have one supplied in the van. That night, the air conditioning wasn't as bad, still a bit of noise, but being exhausted, we managed to get a broken sleep.
Next stop was Pine Creek, and that night, the same terrible noise began again! With the night temperature at 34+degrees, we were absolutely shattered and by midnight we couldn't take any more, deciding at least the cabin aircon would keep us cool if we drove back to Darwin. We were ready to give the holiday a miss and get out of there. We arrived back in Darwin at 4 am, as driving was slow, so as not to have an accident. We had to cancel our booking at Katherine for the next 2 days, for no refund and spent the next 5 hours parked near the fish market like we were homeless.
When Jucy finally opened, we were told we should have rung the 1800 number, but to what avail in the middle of the night in the middle of nowhere?
We were then informed that we "had" to choose between the only 2 other campers, one was another large one that was like a dinosaur, the chairs were ripped, etc, and it smelled terrible, or a smaller one that had a double bunk at the end. We asked if they could remove the top bunk, as there was no room between the top and bottom, but they said no. So out of desperation and sleep deprivation, we took it and decided to stay in Darwin in case anything else went wrong and see out the holiday at the Hidden Valley Caravan Park
One night of those bunks (banging heads and back scrapings) and that was the end of that. The next morning, we got the last motel-style room in the park for some respite and booked that for our last 2 days before heading home.
We lost a considerable amount of money on this trip, including
extra fuel for a larger camper hose connector Cancellation of Katherine booking additional fuel for the return to Darwin after the first night room for two nights at Hidden Valley pain and anguish, sleep deprivation on our attempted holiday.we put in a complaint but have heard nothing except a email saying they have recieved it but nothing else.

Choose another campervan agency
We rented a campervan in Auckland for a month and returned it in Christchurch in September 2025.
Unfortunately, our van had a number of issues. On the second day, while we were still in Auckland, we had to go back to the agency because the lid on our cooking station wouldn’t stay open—we had to hold it up while cooking. They fixed it that same day.
However, other problems continued throughout the trip:
* One of the windows kept opening by itself (we ended up using tape to keep it shut).
* The gas door on the outside was broken and kept flying open.
* There was a constant, annoying noise coming from the driver’s side door.
* The brakes were whistling.
* The control panel that displayed the water level wasn’t working at all—it showed 50% even when we had no water left.
* We paid extra for a heater, which turned out to only work when plugged into an external power source—so it was basically useless during most of our trip.
After three weeks on the road, during a period of heavy rain, we discovered a leak in the window above our bed. Upon closer inspection, we saw there was old tape around the window—clearly from a previous traveler—indicating that this wasn’t a new issue. The mattress and our sheets were soaked. We had to go find a dryer, and that night, we couldn’t sleep in the bed and had to sleep on the small and uncomfortable sofa downstairs.
The next day, we called Jucy and were asked to drive to Queenstown (we were in Wānaka, about an hour away). They offered to pay for one night in a hotel so we could get some proper rest, as we still couldn’t sleep in the bed. The following day, we drove to Queenstown, and upon arrival, the staff informed us that we’d be getting a replacement campervan. We then spent over an hour in the parking lot transferring our belongings and adapting to the new van before driving another hour back to Wānaka to continue our trip.
All these inconveniences—two extra hours of driving, the cost and time spent drying our bedding, the loss of time—were not compensated. But even worse…
A few weeks later, I discovered a surprise $100 charge on my credit card from Jucy. I checked my emails—nothing. No explanation, no invoice, no warning. I contacted them and was told it was because we hadn’t emptied the toilet or refilled the fuel tank when we returned the first van.
I explained that this was a misunderstanding. We didn’t know we were going to exchange vans when we arrived in Queenstown. The staff member there never mentioned anything about needing to prepare the van for a full checkout—she didn’t even inspect it. If we had known, of course, we would have emptied the toilet and refilled the fuel tank. But the whole process was rushed, and we were simply following their instructions.
I also pointed out that we had to drive two hours and lose half a day because of a problem that was not our fault—a leak that had clearly been there before. And yet, they still charged us for fuel and didn’t acknowledge any of the inconvenience we experienced.
I asked for a refund, explaining everything clearly, but they refused. I find this very surprising and disappointing.
We were given a van with a known leak. We lost time, money, and had a terrible night because of it. And on top of that, we were charged for something we were not informed about. They leaned on the contract clause about emptying the toilet and refilling fuel—but again, this was not a standard checkout. They should train their staff to communicate clearly in situations like this and at the very least send an email before charging a card.
If this $100 charge hadn’t happened, I wouldn’t have complained about Jucy at all. But the way this was handled felt unfair, and as a result, we do not recommend Jucy.

Poor Experience renting from Jucy New Zealand
I hired a Jucy campervan in October 2025 and reported multiple issues starting on 10 October. These included: water leaks inside the vehicle (shower/toilet wall and driver and passenger footwells), a faulty sliding side door that often jammed and could only be opened from inside by reaching through the window (which soon also stopped opening), a non-functional forward collision warning sensor, a broken crockery drawer rail with loose screws, a broken latch on another drawer, and multiple missing curtain clips.
Jucy’s response times were slow, with long delays of 1–3 days between emails. Instead of arranging a repair promptly, we were told to visit hardware stores to buy sealant and attempt our own temporary repairs for a $30 reimbursement. We were also asked to divert our route to visit distant repair locations despite providing our travel itinerary early in the trip. On 14 October, Jucy said they would arrange a repair near Manapouri, but after that email, communication stopped. As of 21 October, there has been no response for 7 days and no resolution.
This has now delayed our attempts to resolve the matter and resulted in a vehicle that was not as advertised or fit for purpose. Very disappointing experience due to poor response times and unresolved safety issues.

I would not recommend using this…
I would not recommend using this company. My partner and I were provided with a camper van that had issues with tracking, so was veering off the road, and also the domestic battery wasn’t working so we couldn’t charge things even when connected up to the mains at campsites. We returned the van and were provided with alternatives, all of which had black mould in the bathroom and on the roof on the inside of the van. They refused to give us a refund. I am not one to complain about services usually but I don’t want people to have this experience.

Unsafe Vehicles filled with Black Mould
I rented a campervan from Jucy in late September 2025, and the experience was appalling from both a safety and health perspective.
The first vehicle supplied had dangerous steering and tracking issues, making it unsafe to drive. Jucy staff admitted this after attempting repairs for over 2.5 hours and being unable to fix the fault.
They then offered several replacement vans — each one visibly contaminated with black mould on interior surfaces. Their staff acknowledged that other vehicles had the same issue, while attempting to claim the marks were “just stains.” Even after I offered to pay extra for a newer or clean van, I was told none were available.
At that point, I had no safe or habitable vehicle, and my trip was effectively ruined. Jucy’s eventual response was to refund only one day’s hire — despite failing to provide any vehicle fit for purpose.
The combination of mechanical safety faults and black mould exposure raises serious concerns about Jucy’s fleet condition and maintenance standards. Health and safety should never be compromised to this extent.
Travellers deserve to know the risks before booking — based on my experience, I would strongly caution anyone against renting from Jucy until they address these serious issues.
We hired a van
We hired a van, air conditioner loud, water running off the roof and got wet every time we went out the door, roof curtains wouldn’t stay closed, having them ring us to bring it back early
Very disappointed in the company as a whole, sent in a complaint and they haven’t even responded

Do not book a with Jucy service and state of vehicles totally unacceptable
If I could have given the company no stars I would have. Appalling service, faulty vans, impossible to complain to a manager and talk about a refund. Do Not book with them and be careful starz rv now part of jucy so if you book through them you will get jucy.

Bad experience with Jucy
We had a bad experience with Jucy Crib. The vehicle we rented, with close to 400,000 km, broke down due to an alternator failure, which ruined our last day. The van was clearly neglected—there was even a large spider web in the rearview mirror. Despite paying for the "Stress-Free Plus" package, the experience was far from stress-free.
The mechanic arrived quickly, but we waited three frustrating hours for towing approval, caught in a mess of calls between Jucy, RAA, and the mechanic, with each asking us to coordinate with the others. For a vehicle with such high mileage, breakdowns are predictable, but the poor maintenance and chaotic response made this unacceptable.
We expected better from Jucy (emailed right away to feedbackjucyworld.com but no answer after two weeks)

2x Jucy campers in NZ. Several issues but not terrible.
2x Jucy campers in NZ. Several issues, but not terrible.
Auckland
- The camper was clearly older, I'd put it at 2012-2014, but overall neat and had everything I expected.
- Staff at Auckland were very friendly and helpful, but wait times were quite long.
- In my initial booking, as listed on my receipt, I was charged for the fuel that the camper comes filled with, but despite being verbally told that I didn't need to refill the camper, when I returned it to Auckland I was told that no, I did need to fill it and ended up having to pay for the refuel. So in essence I've gifted Jucy fuel. Feels like a massive rip off.
- Jucy Auckland have just charged me around $6 AUD with no explanation whatsoever more than two weeks after I returned the camper. I've sent an email, will update if they explain it.
Christchurch
- Camper was VERY old. It had windup windows so it couldn't be less than 20 years old.
- Service at Christchurch was comparably fast, they seemed less under the pump too.
- Mains power cable was forgotten and by the time I realised I couldn't go out and buy one, so I essentially paid for a more expensive camper that had that feature for no reason. Managed to borrow one a few days (from the caravan park offices,) but had to go without just as many.
-2nd dual battery that powered the water, lights, navigation, and all charging points, blew up. I was told that noone had ever heard of that happening before so it's probably not common. It was on the 2nd last day so I had a freezing cold, dirty and stressful night's sleep (hoping my phone wouldn't die so I could find my way back to Christchurch, it didn't thank god) stovetop is gas so still worked or I'd have actually cracked the sads. Guy on the phone said I'd be provided an email to seek compensation, I never was, I had to find one and followup myself. Getting charged $6 with no explanation reminded me to do that. I'll update whatever resolution is offered.
Overall, probably would use a different company next time. Not the worst experience imaginable however.

We were so excited to arrive in New…
We were so excited to arrive in New Zealand for the first time, and unfortunately JUCY completely ruined our start. We booked our van from 3pm, provided all of our flight information, completed the check-in online in advance, and gave them everything they needed to know our arrival time.
What did we get in return? Nothing. No email. No phone call. No warning. We arrived at their branch to find it closed at 4pm. Not once did they inform us of this. Zero communication.
When we called support, the staff were completely unhelpful and indifferent. Their only response was: “You’ll have to pick it up tomorrow.” That would be fine if this was just a car, but this was our accommodation for the night. They left us stranded.
To make things worse, they blamed a third-party company for the issue instead of taking any responsibility. That’s not just poor service, it’s childish and unprofessional.
If a company can’t manage the basic courtesy of informing customers about closing hours and leaves them with no place to sleep, they have no right to be in the travel business.
Do not book with JUCY. Save yourself the stress and go with a company that actually cares about its customers.

If I could give 0 stars
If I could give 0 stars. Got given our van in Christchurch and watched the video they ask you to watch, where they say all is provided. Found out when we went to make tea that night, not only did we not have a starter for the hob, there was a hole in the bottom of our kettle. We then went to make the bed and realised all our pillows and duvets were soaked because there was a leak in the roof where they were stored (we didn’t notice this because the pillows and duvets were pushed up to it). Not only that but when I went to make the bed, I found dirty kitchen tongs down the side of the back chair.
We were too far gone from Christchurch to go back and just shoved a pillow up to the leak and used the other ones for the time being.
We then had no choice but to give up a day in Milford Sound because when we took out the plug from our electric connection the whole connection broke off and came with it. We had to immediately go to Queenstown and go to the office to figure this out. Not only did we have to travel to Queenstown to fix this now we have to wait to a mechanic looks at our van, eating into more of our travel time. Such a bad experience that really dampened our trip in New Zealand.
*reply to the response, we have emailed multiple times now; twice today and no response
*it has been 24 hours since they replied to the review and still no reply to the emails more than 24 hours later. Ridiculous.

Avoid if travelling with car seats
Hired a condo camper van for me my wife and 8 month old, as the website when booking assured us that there was provision of a safe and legal way of securing a child seat that was ideal for us, and explicitly stated the condo was the ideal choice for families for this reason. On arrival they hand you a car seat and tell you essentially to figure it out yourself. These aren’t isofix seats they are secured by the seatbelt. After an hour of doing this we realised the seatbelt does not lock in place as required by the online instruction manual we found (so the car seat would loosen as you drive around which is what keeps the car seat on the seat). They attempted various frankly dubious methods of securing the car seat that we were not happy with as did not seem official ways of doing this. We requested a refund as we weren’t convinced this was safe or even legal, but were repeatedly denied this refund so are now potentially thousands of dollars out of pocket. Hoping we can pursue this and get a refund as it is not acceptable.
Update : no refund but thankfully we have managed to sort an alternative vehicle from them that works better with a car seat which is a relief!!!!
