Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 95 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many customers reported significant issues with the vehicles, including poor build quality, old models, and numerous defects such as non-working stoves, blocked sinks, and missing items. Reviewers frequently encountered mechanical problems like faulty brakes, non-functional heaters, and issues with electrical systems, which often led to breakdowns and ruined trips. The customer service was widely criticized for being unhelpful, unresponsive, and lacking follow-through, with many feeling that management did not take responsibility for the problems. Conversely, a small portion of people felt satisfied with their experience, noting friendly staff, easy pick-up and drop-off, and comfortable vehicles that were well-equipped and easy to drive. Some also appreciated the design and agility of certain campervan models, finding them suitable for their travel routes.

I recently rented a campervan from Jucy…

I recently rented a campervan from Jucy and was extremely disappointed with the overall quality and preparation of the vehicle. It’s clear they do not have strong standards when it comes to pre-rental vehicle checks, and it unfortunately ruined a big part of our trip.
Right from the start, we discovered the fridge was not working properly. For a campervan, a reliable fridge is essential, especially if you’re planning to travel with food and drinks. This was already a major inconvenience.
Worse still, we soon encountered serious mechanical issues:
Engine warning lights came on
Transmission problems
The vehicle repeatedly displayed a warning that it was low on AdBlue
We ended up spending the entire morning driving around trying to locate and purchase AdBlue just to keep the van running. Eventually, the issues were bad enough that we had to return the vehicle to Jucy’s head office for repairs. This cost us a full day of our holiday — time we’ll never get back.
For a company that specialises in campervan rentals, the expectation is that the vehicles are thoroughly inspected, serviced, and road-ready before being handed over to customers. In our case, it felt like the van was not properly checked at all. The combination of a broken fridge and ongoing engine/transmission warnings made the whole experience stressful and unreliable.
I would not recommend renting from Jucy until they improve their vehicle quality control and maintenance standards. Save yourself the headache and potential lost holiday time — look for a rental company that actually ensures their fleet is in good working condition before you drive off.

DO NOT RENT THROUGH JUCY!!!!!

DO NOT RENT THROUGH JUCY!!!!!
My 6 day road trip from Sydney to Brisbane was ruined by hiring a van that had a DEAD 12 volt battery. We paid premium to get running water, lights and to be able to charge our phones and weren't able to do any of that. They sent out roadside assistance, despite knowing that they wouldn't be able to help apart from "diagnosing the problem" and told us WE would have to take the vehicle to be repaired.
I spent HOURS from my trip on the phone and emailing Jucy trying to find a resolution, but all of which were unsuccessful. I was told a "specialist" would call me, and they never did. We ended up staying in accommodation because we could not live out the van life dreams we had! Now, they have offered me a tiny refund of $19.75... are you kidding???
I wouldn't wish this experience on my worst enemy. DO BETTER!

Me and my two friends have just rented a Jucy van for two weeks. I do feel a lot of these reviews are unreasonable. I give 4 stars because one of the power sockets and part of the stove stopped working at the end of the trip. With that being said customer service were great. I’ve read reviews about cleaning charges. Guys just EMPTY YOUR TOILET it’s not their job to clean your sh*t and it’s just mad disrespectful. Dropped the van off , we cleaned up our mess beforehand. No issues staff were great

Jucy is great for freedom and budget…

Jucy is great for freedom and budget holidays.
However, the negative impact from the Brisbane office :
one staff to attend to registration on a busy morning and delivering the vehicle, thus no checking of vehicle.
Vehicle received is very old model and has been affected by flood.
Tent on roof top is damaged and not able to zip-up. The four nights rented were damp and uncomfortable.
Brake pad needs changing
No phone holder - the driver was caught on camera holding the phone while using GPS

Well we finally got to the point in our trip that we tried to make coffee in the morning and found out the stove doesn’t work. I think it is out of propane so we might try and fix that ourselves. The we found out that the toilet doesn’t pump water when you use it.
My suggestion would be that you need to have them prove that all the functionality stuff is working instead of them just showing how they should work

Jucy rentals, cheap and cheerful

Jucy rentals gave us a Suzuki Swift for our 13 day rental. We ordered a small car and were more than happy with it. They are older cars and have high mileage but do the job without any dramas. Drop off and pick up were easy with friendly staff. There is a courtesy van from airport then after dropping off car they took us to the Sudima Hotel with is fantastic. Make sure you check the fuel before you depart. Pre departure photos showed the fuel just below full which I thought might just be as far as the gauge shows but just down the road it dropped to 3/4 full. I wasn’t worth going back as it would delay our trip so on return I mentioned it and without hesitation they credited back the equivalent amount of fuel that was missing. Very impressed they did this as I was not asking for a refund just bringing it to their attention. We will use them again.

4 days stranded, promises not honoured, compensation refused

Our van door stopped opening on Thursday 28 May and was not fixed until Sunday 31 May. For 4 full days, our group could not travel, could not access our belongings, our food, or our cooking equipment, everything was locked inside the van. We had no choice but to buy every single meal outside.

During our calls with JUCY roadside assistance, we were explicitly told our food expenses would be reimbursed and this was noted on our file. The receptionist at the Sydney branch also recorded our requests in writing when we checked out.

When we followed up by email, JUCY offered us $18.60 compensation for 4 days of complete immobility, or a single free day with insurance charges still applied. No mention of the food reimbursement that had been promised. It is clear that whoever handled our case did not have full visibility of our file.
We lost 4 days of a roadtrip we saved and planned for months.

We are travelling on a tight budget and a tight schedule. This is not just an inconvenience, it is a failure to deliver the service we paid for and to honour commitments made by JUCY's own team.

Booking reference MDBPWQ.

We have now escalated this to Consumer Affairs Victoria and will be sharing our experience across all platforms until this is resolved.

Avoid if you know what's good for you!

We rented a campervan in Christchurch for 3 weeks. No end of issues mainly with the hot water and heating. No safety equipment was provided either and the grey water tank had obviously never been cleaned as it was stinking. We ended up having to clean and flush that ourselves as it was that bad and the office didn't care.
Despite contact with Jucy and 2 visits to the Queens town depot the issues weren't fixed which resulted in us being unable to wild camp as much as we wanted as were forced to stay in campsites.
When we complained to Jucy they stated that the issues had been fixed in Queenstown (which they werent) as despite us pointing out the issues to the rep back at Queenstown, we saw the van being prepped to go back out with no remedial work carried out. They also stated that due to another booking they wanted the van back early.
Not the best experience and the dont care attitude didn't help either.

AWFUL NOT RECOMMENDED

Awful..NOT recommended. We booked a 3 week hire for my 50th birthday for a " wild camp" road trip. This was through Ratpack Travel ( which has good reviews).
We had booked " express collection" where you just collect the keys and go, however this took 2 hours so not express at all.
When we checked the camper it looked pretty new and externally ok ( we paid a premium for a newer van)
However, there was human excrement left in the toilet cassette which we pointed out to staff who just weren't bothered. The elctric hookup cap was broken as were the outdoor chairs and the plastic bucket for cleaning.
Once we had parked up it became apparent the van had no TV remote and NO carbon monoxide detector. We rang customer services who replies were that we wouldn't be watching TV anyway and we would know if we were on fire so wouldnt need a smoke/co2 detector!!
Numerous faults included :
Water heater broken so unable to use the shower / wash up properly This meant we had to pay to stay at campsites for facilities which wasn't the plan at all.
We went to the queenstown branch twice to try and fix the problem but they didn't know how to amd didn't have a spare vehicle for us to swap on to.
The fridge was so full of ice that it ruined a load of our food by freezing it. It clearly has never been defrosted
The trays on the fridge door were also sticky taped in place and kept falling off which meant the fridge door wouldnt open on many occasions.
Multiple warning lights included no brakes most of the time, which isn't for the faint hearted on the mountain roads.
Customer service was awful, queenstown basically filed a report saying they'd fixed the problem and we were happy.
Christchurch filed a report saying the van was returned with no issues despite the fact we told them all the problems and that it wasn't fit to hire out again until these were rectified.
I've been chasing Jucy for 4 months now after complaint...we have eventually been offered around £200 in compensation which doesn't even cover the cost of campsites we had to stay at.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY GO ELSEWHERE .
Had we known Ratpack Travel used Jucy we wouldn't have gone through them .

DO NOT USE!

DO NOT USE!! JUCY charged us a cleaning fine after the van was dropped off and will not respond to our emails asking for proof. When picking up the campervan, we checked at their reception whether we needed to get it cleaned before returning and they said no this wasn’t necessary, just to clear out rubbish, empty the toilet / water etc. This is also confirmed in the terms and conditions. We of course cleaned it to a certain extent before returning meaning we wiped the sides, cleared it out etc. not the extent of mopping the floor as such, as we was told this was not necessary, however it appeared clean, no visible dirt / spillage. So to then be charged $200 (NZ) for a cleaning fee, a few days later without any description or indication as to what it was for, was really frustrating! We emailed for proof and have not heard back 2 months later. Also, when dropping the campervan off there was no one there to physically drop the keys off (just a box), and if there had been we would have checked it with them and could of got it cleaned if there was a problem. Which would of avoided a charge triple to price of getting it cleaned!!! Awful customer service, as said above DO NOT use!!!

12 days in WA

We hired a Star RV Polaris van for a 12 day trip around SW Western Australia. Mechanically the vehicle generally went OK except for 1 night when it would not start or lock at all. Fortunately we were already at the caravan park. Roadside assistance came quite promptly from a local mechanic contracted by RAC. He fixed the problem after about one hour, by working on the battery and fiddling with the key mobiliser. This was a relatively new vehicle so not sure why it had a problem, but at least the Roadside Assistance worked well. The vehicle otherwise drove well.

Couple of other issues though. The grey water hose was way too short. It did not stretch from the valve point to the drain without repositioning the van, often very close to the neighbouring van. By way of contrast the fresh water (blue) hose was way too long, old and had kinks so was difficult to use. It also was without the hose attachements to enable it to attach to the water source in the parks. [We had to borrow the attachments]. Furthermore, the storage area for both hoses was too small and hard to access. This no doubt led to the deterioration of the blue hose.

When we collected the van, there appeared to be insufficient staff. The whole process took over one hour, even though there were few customers. The staff appeared to be overworked, and the man who served us neglected to explain where the diesel key was (it inserts into the hob).

The doona for the bed was summer-weight for a winter hire. It was really insufficient, and we got a bit cold at times.

Finally the plug for the sink was the wrong size.

Otherwise we had fun!

Avoid this company if you dont want problems

1) Defective USB ports (not checked at the time of delivery)
We had to return to the Queenstown store the next day to find a solution. We finally opted to buy a USB adapter (Jucy refunded us for it).
While there was a solution, we lost time having to go to Jucy again and then having to go back to buy the adapter.

2) Defective water pump
The most inconvenient problem of all. Halfway through the trip, the water pump stopped working properly. To get water, we had to exert an incredible amount of force, and we could barely manage it between the two of us. We were traveling far from any town with a Jucy store, so we had to resort to carrying water bottles with us at all times.

3) Defective brakes
By far the most serious problem. The brakes overheated easily, even when using engine braking on downhills, causing the handlebars to shake with every stop. At one point, the situation was so bad that we almost crashed into the guardrail. We thought we had a flat tire, but no, it was just the brakes.

4) Defective doors.
Both rear doors constantly jammed, requiring a lot of force to open. It was especially annoying when someone was inside sleeping and had to move to the front seat to open it from the outside.

5) Missing water hose connector

Any compensation? Of course NOT.
As we claim at the final of our trip and not 24 hours since the problem, it was our fault.
