James Madison Online High School is a SCAM

The Online High School is a SCAM! Do NOT register with them! I called them to ask some questions and they quickly asked for my card number and registered my son. Then they asked me to send my son's transcripts and we sent them. My son has completed his high school up to grade 11 at a physical high school and he wanted to do his 12th grade online. So they registered him in grade 12. Then, when his profile was activated, we noticed that he is required to do his 9th, 10th, and 11th grades again, although my son has been a high achiever and got A all throughout his school!

We asked them to remove 9, 10, 11 grades courses and they said sorry we cannot! Then I cancelled his registration because they look to have a really ridiculous system of education. Then, I asked for cancellation and refund, but they are asking for cancellation fee although my son has done nothing yet with this school and we have already paid so much money to them! SCAM! They probably know that no one in his right mind would stay with their stupid system and they are making money out of registration and cancellation fees!

Poor Decision

Poor Decision
When I was initially sold on this school, I was told by admissions that I can immediately start enrollment and coursework. Had I known this wasn't correct, I would have kept my child enrolled in school while he waits for the whole transcript process to take place. The former school immediately faxed over the transcripts but I spoke to Laura in Student Services (very rude, callus to the whole process, and not helpful - sounded as if she was fresh out of high school herself) and she informed me that it would take 10 business days for the transcript to be evaluated and that I had other students ahead of me. I asked to speak with a supervisor and she told me that "Breanne" is in a meeting and she will submit a ticket for her to follow up with me. Didn't even tell me how long she would respond back. I was constantly having to ask when and how. Not real customer savvy and rather disappointing. In the meantime, my child is in limbo, anxiously waiting to start his courses. I wish I would've had more time to research this school's process before enrolling. I'll see what this supervisor "Breanne" will say but if this school is about money and not invested in the students then my child doesn't belong in this program.

BEWARE-CUSTODIAL PARENTS

Because JMS is a self-paced institution, in some cases the child can attend JMS after the age of 18, making the custodial parent eligible for child support beyond the child's 18th birthday due to being a student. The catch is - The Attorney General (AG) wants to know if the child is a full-time student or not and JMS does NOT report full-time or part-time. They report "active or inactive". The AG's office will deny the custodial parent continuation of child support based on "active or inactive" status. I spoke to JMS about this and what they do to comply with the requirements of the AG and I was told "active or inactive" is already pre-loaded on the form they send to the AG's office and cannot be changed!

all about money

They dont help you with the work. They lied to you and tell you its at your own paced. When enroll you'll have so much to much. In so little time. I wouldn't dare recommend this school its a joke. Even afterwards they still try to get money from you.

Bahamian DO NOT CONSIDER

Bahamians please DO NOT CONSIDER this school. Poor Service. At face value it great however everything is automated, the service when provided by a person is not of good quality, and customer service is NOT their priority. They'd gladly take your money 1st though, with no regard of service.

Textbooks take up to 5 months to receive after course is opened. Currently waiting on 2 textbooks. Customer service is near non-existent and rude. Online "ticket" submissions for support are always closed as "resolved" with no resolution addressed or in sight. Very disappointed with this school.

Do NOT enroll in James Madison HS

We have home schooled fora few years through various programs. This is by far the absolute worst program I have seen. The customer service is terrible. It takes a minimum of a week to get anything resolved and the typical answer is "the system will not allow us to do that." My son was in the middle of Spanish II when they took his course off line. After two week, they loaded a new course and said they changed the book so he would need to start over! That was after working on Spanish II for 6 weeks! After arguing with them for numerous days, they finally transferred his work over to the new course so he didn't have to start over. When we contacted his math teacher for help, she referred us to a power point that she had done.
When I contacted her and said we couldn't hear her speak, she doesn't speak on the power point videos because her dogs are too loud. So the geometry videos have no sound. Run as fast as you can from this school.

My overall experience has been great

My overall experience has been great! I started this program long ago while I was a minor, fell behind on my payments and halted my education. Months later of Having my daughter I immediately wanted to continue my education, I needed to prove to my daughter that an education is very important. Once I renrolled everything went great, the teachers were fantastic; there was maybe two teachers that I had trouble with getting in touch with in a timely manner but that issue was resolved. The school prepares you for college and I cannot thank James Madison High School enough for their awesome faculty geered to help their students in any way. As excited and proud that I am, I am a JMHS 2019 Graduate. I recommend this school to anyone looking to continue their education, though times may be overwhelming but it’s well worth it.

Useless diploma, GED test still required!

The online diploma is not accepted by any colleges or military. This is a useless program, don't waste your money. There are outrageous cancellation charges. You have 5 days to cancel, however it takes 10 business days to review a transcript from another school. Then you pay $200 to cancel a month after you pay $350 to enroll!!

After several weeks of waiting for my…

After several weeks of waiting for my child's entry exam to be received and graded, I called James Madison, to speak to yet again another customer service rep that didn't have any knowledge of what was going on. I was placed on hold for them to come back with "call back on next week", "call back on Wed. we may have it then" "give them a week to grade and put it in the system". Lie after life after lie. Another week pass, I call, and I get the genius name Lewis a very rude, argumentative customer service rep. Einstein thought he was really telling my mom off and refused to help her resolve the ongoing situation with the entry exam. On top of that, after several calls to add my mom, they added a wrong name and Lewis gave my mom the business when she called to check the status of the entry exam that they didn't get after 3 and half weeks of waiting. (And these are the people that are supposed to assist with our problems...) Nevertheless, this pitiful excuse for a customer service rep Lewis, had absolutely no idea how to help me resolve our ongoing problem with the school receiving a piece of mail. In the meantime, we're sending email after email to their register, because that is the only form of communication you have, when we are transferred to the register dept. all we get is hung up on. No one answers the line no matter if they dropped the ball on their end or not, you can only send a email. The register dept email you back and say the issue is resolved even if it's not. These people don't care about your child learning. Every customer service rep has a different protocol that they follow. Looking at how many times we've had to call the school, and not one thing has been corrected, it looks as though there is no protocol. They say what they think sound good. Finally, I was able to speak to a supervisor named James, he was concerned about all the wrong things. No one at James Madison wanted to accept the fact that there is a serious problem with the way they have messed up and how they have handled ALL OF OUR ...CONCERNS. I mean ALL OF THEM! Now they want us to pay for a notary for my mom to be added to the account when the other customer service rep put in the wrong name, the name they have on file, no one in our family have that name. My mom was placed on the account over 2 months ago...

Great response to initial concerns!

Update - I am happy to say that JMHS really jumped in to resolve our issue. Thank you! Timely response online and they did everything they could to locate our transcript (which had been sent but without student ID number... so slowed down the process).

We are a little over a week into our JMHS experience and it has been highly disappointing so far. We have been trying to track down a transcript that our prior high school confirmed was emailed roughly a week ago. JMHS agents are rude on the phone and do not provide any assistance, they simply say wait 48 hours - yet still no feedback. Ticket was submitted but is unanswered. We have emailed our student's advocate and will give them a day or two to respond and then we will have to consider withdrawing and requiring a full refund.

The school work itself isn't bad...but

The school work itself isn't bad, but good luck trying to get someone to care about your concerns on trying to finish quickly. It takes 7-10 days just to get someone to assess a failed course, and then 5 more days to remediate and god forbid you need help in that time, 5 days for a ticket to be found, always shutting down, always same excuses when needing things to be expedited. There is good people at this school, but the school setup completely sucks.
