Going from Bad to Worse.

In last 12 years it has gone down from top to bottom.
App keeps throwing tantrums.
They keep asking for verification docs more often than normal.
Their service fees are unacceptably high.
Time for me to move on.
I’d have given them Zero star if it was possible.

Very bad experience..

Very bad experience... I would never recommend this bank. I started to open my account in October 2025. Now, it is end of December 2025, and after two visits at the bank and many messages with their costumer service, I still didn't succeed in opening ING Young accounts for my daughters... The only good point is the nice and polite staff, trying to be useful, but they can't succeed because of the ING's stupid regulations. AVOID THIS BANK IF POSSIBLE!

AVOID THIS BANK

AVOID THIS BANK – SHOCKING AND DANGEROUS EXPERIENCE

I am a foreign citizen and opened an account with this bank. Everything seemed fine until I was summoned for a so-called “data update.”

I went in person to the ING branch on Bulevardul Eroilor, Cluj-Napoca. The teller checked my documents several times, clearly struggling to understand them (they were in a foreign language), and then presented me with printed forms to sign.

Total shock: the documents listed me as a Romanian citizen, with a made-up Romanian personal identification number (CNP), and my official documents from my country of residence were described as being issued by the “Romanian authorities in Cluj.” Essentially, the bank had “naturalized” me on the spot.

I left the branch thinking I had accidentally entered the Population Records office or the National Authority for Citizenship. Obviously, I had taken no oath and requested nothing of the sort. I returned and pointed out that the documents were false and that the bank had no legal right to change citizenship or assign CNPs.

The staff’s reaction was aggressive and arrogant: I was told that “this is how the software works,” that I didn’t understand Romanian well, and that I was speaking too loudly. Zero accountability, zero professionalism, zero respect.

Seeing I was talking to a wall, I left the branch—declared a Romanian without request, without an oath, without any legal basis.

Later, I received threatening emails about my account being closed “in stages.” I filed complaints with ASF, BNR, Consumer Protection, and other competent authorities.

A week later, another “consultant” informed me that the document falsification was “a human error,” but my account would be suspended anyway if I did not provide absurd and nonexistent documents (NIF, NAF, DSC), which I had never been informed about and which had never been requested when I opened the account.

Conclusion: serious incompetence, lack of oversight, major legal risk for clients—especially foreign citizens. If a bank is capable of changing your citizenship on official documents, imagine what it could do with your data or money.

Strong recommendation: avoid this bank.

Best romanian bank

I've had my account with them for half a year now, this is arguably the best bank in Romania at the moment. The app is very good and full of nice features you dont find on other local bank's apps. The customer support is good, they even have a chat option which I've used and my problem was solved quickly.

Absolutely awful

Absolutely awful. Been trying to close my account for MONTHS and it does not work. Went to the bank, they can't close it there, I need to do it online or in the app. But the browser and the app has been giving me the same error for months. Even showed them in person. "Just keep trying at home". Thanks for nothing.

HOW CAN YOU STOP BEING A CUSTOMER AT THIS PLACE. Been paying the tax fees on the account for nothing.

(How is it possible that you can't close your account at the bank. When you go there. In person. Asking from real people. They really need to update their processes if they can't make the website and app work correctly (FOR MONTHS) because what is this.)

La fraudă online dau vina pe tine...

RO: În cazul unei fraude online, îți spun că nu au ce să îți facă. Te trimit la plimbare. Tocmai ce mi-am blocat cardul de debit, după o utilizare frauduloasă și mi-am făcut alt card de debit din aplicația lor, asta e tot ce am putut face.

LE: Mi-au restituit suma...

EN: In the case of online fraud, I tell you there is nothing they can do for you. They send you on a journey. I just blocked my debit card after fraudulent use and made another debit card from their app, that's all I could do.

LE: They refunded my money...

Extremelly unprofesdional!

Extremelly unprofesdional!! Blocked account and my money for no Reason and without any explanation! And their employees are non stop in break mode .!! Hahaha 😆😆😡🥺😳🤓🤡worse than in market place, laugbing loud and talking loud while the customers are in the bank! Wow!. Lack of eveeything!.. such a shame people!.. good bye!..

SCAMMERS

This bank is a huge SCAM!!!
They blocked my account for no reason.
I provided everything they requested TWO MONTHS ago and they just don't reactivate it.
The only answer I receive every day is "You need to wait, the case is being reviewed".
They don't have any information or any time frames. Nothing. They will NEVER do anything to return your money to you.
I recommend never to open an account in this bank, and if you have a similar problem as me - just hire a lawyer and sue this bank.

The worst romanian bank

The worst romanian bank, not mentionging that anything happens with them you need to go in netherlands to get your money, the customer service its basically non existing and there is no helpful personel in any bank. They re there for nothing, i cant even understand why they pay them.

Awful Customer Service by phone. Nobody replies to emails, there is no chat contact. For homebank technical issues, the people in their agencies are useless and incompetent.

A true professional employee

It's about Mr. Cristea Alexandru who works at ING Mega Mall. He helped me update my personal data with ING and unlock my accounts even if they hadn't been opened at the same branch. He was very polite, patient with the other unrest-less customers waiting and putting pressure on him to move faster, tactful (he constantly covered my personal data with his hand while filling the forms, in order to protect from other eyes watching it), he answered to all my questions in a clear and understandable manner, he didn't seem absorbed nor distant during our interaction. A real professional despite his pretty young age.

I would give 0 star but that is not…

I would give 0 star but that is not possible.15 minutes ago I had the worst customer service experience ever at the headquarters in Aviatiei!!! With all due respect, you employ some "princesses", some insensible, arrogant and impertinent "ladies". He treats the customers from above from the moment they walk in the door. They would need some training as they are the employees and we are the customers. My friend had the same treatment and I thought she was exaggerating, but in the future we will no longer work with any client who has ING and we will advise everyone not to ever open an account with you, actually, I feel sick to I'm still entering your bank and this with our money... honestly, it's totally inappropriate and revolting. Please give them a training regarding the behavior and the way to talk with the customer in front, the right words, regarding the attitude, the tone and the way you look, plus some psychological counseling, maybe they have wear and tear...and hence the deviations of inappropriate behaviors .

wanted to transfer money from a…

wanted to transfer money from a different card. money was taken from that card but nothing on ING. numerous other issues with their app, too. tried several times to open an account and couldn’t. contacted customer service and they didn’t help. had to go to an office to open the account. sorry but…your app is a joke. solve these issues asap. i opened an account with you guys because i only heard amazing things. now i’m wondering what’s so amazing.

This bank is the worst for foreigners and tend to lock accounts out of the blue

This bank is the worst for foreigners. Their customer service is horrible. I had a deposit of 100 euros and they restricted my account. It has been almost a month now and nobody has responded, not even called me to say they are working on my case. If you are foreigner please do yourself a favor and go somewhere . I haven’t been able to deposit my salary or anything in this acct, it’s stressing and they don’t really care
