Disjointed and/or broken workflow makes…

Disjointed and/or broken workflow makes you take photos, upload documents, get on a video call with an agent with multiple points of failure and abandonment.

There is zero assurance/proof that the critical data including facial recognition material you are required to upload is secure and will be used responsibly.

No alternate workflows are provided.

Scams operate exactly like this.

I started the process today at 7:45am. It is now 12:33pm and I am still waiting for ID.me to finish reviewing my documents. I suppose there will be another wait before my video call. I have had a wait time of 3-4 minutes since 10:20am.
I need this asinine review to set-up and IRA account.

I think this program is safe

I think this program is safe. It did take some effort and time to send my document and do the selfie video because I got about 6 error messages. That bring ssid, I was able to get important information I needed quickly once it allowed me to complete the sign in.

An app for security should not play this way

Not an IT whiz but generally I make my way without hours of "what's going on here, or why am I doing this (again), or too vague to decide, or repeated dead ends and uploads, etc. I made it though the initial process to get Id.me without too much pain, but using it at the IRS site was a shock.

I did make it through in 2.5 hours, to register my long standing bank account number. Only that. All of the above disappointments were in play. If this is what secure is like, it surely is cumbersome, repetitively so.

I have no doubt that those unskillful in IT, its non-John- Doe-friendly jargon, its tricks and ACRO's, simply give up early-on declaring "I'm done with that". If that be true would they even bother writing a review? Id.me allowing that dynamic to play for the reasons suggested would be a fair reason to think Id.me may not be as secure as wished. A messy kitchen often goes with a messy bedroom. Or otherwise, secure enough for only the few able to manage.

Just a guess: perhaps the ID.me site was built as envisioned from the desired result backwards to the users, rather than forwards from the users to the desired result.

I was very hesitant...

I was very hesitant with going through with this direct deposit process. I did not want to let go of my paper copy check each month. However, I decided to give it a shot! I feared the entire process for months but instead traveled 20 miles to deposit my monthly checks into the bank. I am so glad I decided to trust this program. It was so easy and took only a few minutes of my time. In the future it will save me $$ on the gas I save by not having to drive 20 miles to go to the bank each month. No more fear!

Too complicated for most users

Too complicated for most users. Prepare for a lengthy and multistep process. To be honest, a lot of the problems probably stem from the IRS directions, who wanted an all encompassing process, with extensive security hoops for everyone to jump through. Most people won't get through this without extensive support, which of course, means a large contingent of IRS staff is required for the system to work. How about something less complicated for the tax payers and something more restrictive for fraudsters?

The whole thing made me very nervous.

I am a retired computer engineering (HW and SW) professional. I know my way around PCs. The process did not work cleanly, leading to alternate links that seemed suspicious. Not enough information was provided about what was going on and why. The obviously foreign rep eventually hung up on me because I was asking too many questions. Just like some YouTube video of hackers at work. I really felt that I was likely hacked or the subject of some type of hacking event. Had to take a xanax afterward to relieve my anxiety.

In principal it sounds like a good idea.
Registration was a relatively straightforward process- contact information, id and photo.
I needed this to register with IRS.
The problem I encountered is that I now cannot log into id.me using just my phone as at login it asks me to scan a QR code displayed on my phone, with no way to scan it using the same phone…
When I log into id.me on my laptop which does work with MFA I then cannot scan the IRS document QR code because now I’m on my laptop and not my phone.
Surely there must be an easier way to access these accounts.

What a hassle

What a hassle, after an hour of doibc this and that I can't log in because there is no option for a camera that doesn't play well with this system. I don't know if the camera issues are my problem or theirs, but bottom line I can't use it. I will try again or look for another way to get the information sent me.

This is an overly complicated…

This is an overly complicated cumbersome web application that requires an above average IQ to correctly navigate and I cringe to think how many people gave up on the process and forfeited their due payment because they cannot navigate this situation.

If it would let me put zero stars

If it would let me put zero stars, I would. Clearly they have cornered the federal government (IRS) market. Your tax dollars at work making your life miserable and dealing with a federal agency nearly impossible. Awful system. No help. Lousy security. No confidence I didn’t just screw myself with identity theft actors.

Unprofessional

The verification process appeared to be legitimate, and the representative was helpful. However, the environment during the video verification did not inspire confidence. There were people visibly walking around in the background, and the office setup appeared somewhat unprofessional and not privacy-oriented.

Given the highly sensitive personal information being shared during these sessions, I believe the visual environment and privacy standards should be improved to provide users with greater confidence and reassurance.
