Service regarding queries and minor issues with van were very promptly managed. When a valued possession got stuck under a fixture in the van the team at the ChCh office worked to get the handyman to retrieve it, and then delivered it to us at the airport via the shuttle bus. The team also took on board some suggestions for the next version of the 3ST design.

We really enjoyed our campervan trip! The van was super well-equipped with lots of useful items and kitchen tools. Everything was easy to use and made our journey very comfortable.

Your staff were also really friendly and helpful — we appreciated all the tips and info you shared. Thanks for making our trip such a great experience!

Pickup and dropoff went very well. The camper was as described. We booked 2 months in advance for over christmas, so of course we had to pay a LOT for a budget camper, but that is more on us, hehe. Happy Campers was one of the remaining available and someone affordible campers. We had a great trip!

The people are nice to deal with, and the Toyota engine of the van ran quietly and really well despite having run over 400,000kms. However despite understanding the vehicle is old the curtains were filthy, black mould all over and discovered when too far to turn back. In fact and living in a van for two weeks when it’s so mouldy makes the whole experience uncomfortable. You don’t like to have your head next to mouldy, dirty curtains. There were a number of other issues, but to be honest, the mouldiness, because of the potential impact on one’s health is what has stayed with us. The other thing that stayed with us was when we returned the van. We gave them lots of direct verbal and written feedback on the issues with the van, but there was no comment, no apology, so I felt like they didn’t care. But they do keep sending these links to review so I will list the problems we had below.
Mouldy, dirty curtains
Brakes shuddered when used lightly.
Leaked in a few spots,
Inside windscreen filthy
A couple of resident spiders and spider webs everywhere.
Only one sheet provided.
2 doonas and only one doona cover provided-one doona had blood spots.
No dishwashing or cloth provided.
Passenger side inside door handle broken
Passenger side window kept failing

The staff were friendly and efficient. And vehicle was exactly what we needed. Only niggle, It would be fantastic to have a better pick up arrangements at the domestic terminal arrival in Auckland. Will hire again with you for sure.

Easy pick-up and drop off process, when booking you cannot expect 5 star vehicle however considering the price its well worth it.

Overall, our experience with Happy Campers was great and the cost was very reasonable, except that there were quite a few ants in the van throughout the trip and the bedding wasn’t particularly clean

The gas cooker didnt work and was told to buy a camp cooker, also the fridge never was a fridge as it always froze everything.
The fridge made the camper like a freezer and it was so cold inside.
I had to leave Hamner Springs and come back to Christchurch to get the cooker and the fridge sorted.
Cooker was sorted as the technician had to get under the hotplate and tighten up settings. This should of been seen to before i hired the camper.
I was given a 240vlt heater to warm camper as there was ice inside the camper. This heater didnt work.
I then went to hokitika and the toaster shorted the fuse in the camper i had no power in the van.
I contacted happy campers and 2 auto elevtricians arrived some hrs later and condemed the heater as dangerous the main lead to the site powr pole to camper was faulty and dangeroues also the power outlet in camper was cracked and not earthing the auto electrian changed main lead and power out in camper. I again lost time in my adventure.
I could not stay in such a freezing uninsolated camper where ice was the norm. And then it defrosted and dripped so camper bed was soaked wet.
I could not continue staying in camper so stayed in cabins, which was very expensive . Why should i pay for a camper and not be able to use it as it.was freezing inside.

Our Happy Kuga provided the perfect van life experience for us! It had everything we needed for our 12 day trip and the high roof was awesome for us with my partner being over 6ft and being able to stand up. The provided bedding pack with extra duvet made it super warm, and we loved how the video provided helped teach us everything we needed to know to make our trip complete. Initially I couldn't find the phone charger which was tucked away, but once that was sorted we were good to go. Super easy to travel in and drive. Thanks team, we'll certainly being using your vans again!

I still wait to get my deposit back. I already wrote two mails.

Great van and an easy experience with Happy Campers - transport from the airport even though it is close by and was a smooth process getting the van. We had an amazing time with it!

Mouldy seats, carpets and seat belts. Broken automatic van door, air conditioning vent and drink holder. Not a full tank of fuel on pick up, no toaster and kettle as stated on website. Garbage in the van and a dirty child’s sock. “Fridge” was also disgusting inside. Would not recommend. Also the wipers nearly snapped off driving to Hamilton, had to get roadside assistance to continue driving in the rain.

Two back tires were bald, one blew out, very dangerous. No proper checks done on the vehicle by Happy Campers before letting it out on hire with me. Manager was to call me on this but still no phone call.

Great automatic sleeper van, super clean and recently done up inside, no issues at all when driving. Bed is about as comfy as you'd expect a van mattress to be. Heaps of space to store stuff. Van itself was 10/10. Loses a star for hidden costs - seems super cheap at first, but van doesn't include linen or bedding (who is bringing a duvet and pillows overseas?), or table and chairs , both at an additional cost, plus $45 a day on top of the hire for "no worries" insurance but you would still have to pay $250 excess and $150 for a flat tyre. An extra butane canister would've been good too as the one we were given was pretty much empty. Also got given the van with a crumb below a full tank of fuel. We filled up 20 mins before we got back to drop off, and it was a crumb under full, was told we had to drive back to the servo to fill it up which ended up being an extra $8 of fuel...Seemed a bit petty for a big business but oh well, just make sure your tank is COMPLETELY full when you drop off!

I was so impressed with Happy Campers. Our little camper was fully equipped and it was so easy to get around. When I had a stone chip from a passing car the helpline were fantastic. Everything went really smoothly. I will be recommending this company to my friends.

Very good campervan and very good how a situation regarding the campervan was handled.

The campervan was was well equipped and easy to drive but the bed and pillows were really uncomfortable. Having a toilet so near the bed was difficult. It might help to give guidance on whether the campervan is accessible/ suitable for older customers. The price was excellent but as it was our first time hiring a campervan we weren't realistic about the size.

Easy to find a suitable vehicle and pay online. Happy with the service and the whole process.
