The whole thing worked out great in the end though the process had its ups and downs from the start. The payment process and the information flow is under par, but all in all we had a nice experience

This company just want to make money anyhow charging a lot of admin phase without asking. Took money from my account twice.
You guys should charge only one time admin fee not twice.
Please refund us $50 back
You are doing smart technique you send send me a ticket on a different email and another ticket on a different email for the for the same van in charge twice admin fee .

Rely need to send out fully road ready vehicles or tell me you are planning to take that one off the road

A great experience using the camper and having the freedom of using powered (paid) sites only every few days makes a huge saving. Nice that the van also included a solar panel for charging too.
The ONLY reason for a 4 star is that the van we had, although suiting our purposes, it was very prone to wind gusts as it was high in height but narrow in width, making driving a bit scary at times. Otherwise I would highly recommend Happy Campers as a company as staff (although mostly new) were very helpful and informative.

Booking was easy on the main website but the link between Happy Campers and Motor Home was difficult at times. This appears to be common between main sites and suppliers. Changes to the booking once completed meant a complete renewal of documentation each time, which could do with streamlining.
Registration at the pick up at Christchurch Airport was easy though we had not be been advised of an upgrade/change to the vehicle.
Contact with HQ was good and the team was helpful with queries regarding camper van issues.
The return was easy with the team being accommodating and provision of shuttle outside hours.

I received a Campervan for 2 and when we set up the wood table to sleep on, It sticked out so was so annoying
The solution was none,
We pay the best insurance and the van wasn’t cheap to have this problem. They didn’t checked it before giving the keys. Thats disappointing

The promised camper with 12.000 km we did not get, but a camper with 105.000 km. The tires had a profile of 2 mm👎. Absolutely no Storage in the camper for clothes. Everything very minimalist such as knies, forks, toilet stuff. No opener for winebottles or cans, etc etc

All in all we had a really great time in the happy 3ST. We would definitely go for happy campers and that model again. Thank you so much for the kind and friendly service!

Really well organised. The depots are very near the airports with shuttle bus pickup and drop-off. Plenty of vans to choose from. I'd suggest going for a van bigger than you think you need. Although I was a solo traveller I opted for the four berth Happy Hi 4 and it was ideal for my needs. I found the downstairs bed to be uncomfortable but the upstairs bed was just right. In fact I left it made up for the entire two weeks and apart from banging my head a couple of times there was plenty of room and headspace in the kitchen area.

Great two weeks holiday. No problems and reasonably well equipped.

It was the worst experience I have ever had as a customer. The van we rented had water leaks everywhere when it was raining and the engine light turned on during our trip. We had to change vehicle in the middle of our journey. The new vehicle we had was so dirty and had a strong cigarette smell. Also the gaz bottle was empty and expired !!! We had to buy a new one for the van ourselves…. We lost so much time and energy during our vacation because of the incompetence and unprofessionalism of this rental company. One advice if you want to have a good trip : run away from Happy Campers and Lucky Rentals !!

Staff fantastic and very supportive. Service impacable. Had a non functioning brake light which was replaced with Support of NZRA in 10 minutes. They asked for my planned route and made an appointment along the way

Staff were helpful and efficient in their job. Camper was reasonably clean. We had a few issues, but nothing big enough to hinder our trip. Overall, we are pleased with the service.

Our entire experience with Happy Campers was exceptional. The check in process was seamless, our van was ready and well presented with everything on board for our 2 week journey.
The van drove well and was comfortable and warm.
The staff were very courteous and knowledgeable.
I would have no hesitation in recommending Happy Campers to potential hirers.

I used a van for 10 days to get around the mountains in the South Island. The vehicle was excellent, and exceeded my expectations. I mean, it had two sun roofs! I could look at the stars from bed. Plenty of juice for the highways, auto, discrete.

The check in process was easy, using a touchscreen for most details, and the an employee gave a quick tour of the vehicle.

The was a butane gas burner provided, but I didn't use it as I stayed at campgrounds and used the kitchens. The refrigerator was a cooler box that plugs in to the 12v car outlet. It didn’t really work so far as I could determine, so I went to The Warehouse (store) and bought ice bricks. I froze them in the camp kitchen freezers and they worked well for keeping drinks etc cold.

The bed was probably the frustrating part, as the mattress is made of 3 long sections. They convert to seating, hence the 3 part design. However, they split apart when lying down. I ended up sleeping in the crack unless I slept far to one side. That's just claustrophobic and stuffy in an already enclosed space.

The other annoyance was the curtains. Magnets would help a lot to keep them closed and in place. I was forever adjusting them as any slight movement would open them.

So there's a few things that could be adjusted to make for a more quality experience, but overall the staff were great - helpful, friendly and easy to work with.

Allow at least an hour to collect your vehicle. More if others are waiting too. You will need to enter credit card info multiple times on a slow and hard to use sign in process. I also discovered a bad ant infestation in the camper an hour away from base and had to return it, wait a further time for another van to be cleaned and fueled up to give me. Ended up over 5 hours behind planned. No compensation or discount given for lost time and delays and extra travel. However, after that poor start, 2nd camper was great. Drove well. Return process was quick and easy. Unlimited kms great. No cruise control was a bit of a pain, but heater and air con worked well, small fridge worked really well. Good value, but triple check your camper before you leave, look in fridge etc. And allow an hour or two for picking up camper.

The price point for the camper was great. We also were lucky and got a very new camper in excellent condition

My rental with Happy Campers was absolutely spotless and great !
The campervan perfectly fitted our needs and was reliable (drove 5000km in 3 weeks).
But to be honest, the best part about happy campers has to be the people, especially Chantelle, with whom I had the pleasure to deal with. Even after having travelled for more than 35 hours, she instantly made us feel well with hear great and kind attitude.
If you’re planning on travelling around New Zealand, happy campers is the place to go.
The only inconvenience was the kitchenware I guess, which came in a pretty bad shape.

We didn't break down, so that's 5 stars in my book.
