Failed fridge freezer in Farnham.

Booked an engineer through Glotech to repair a wine fridge
Booked an engineer through Glotech to repair my wine fridge. He took £265 for a part (by credit card - I should have known better) then I never heard from him again. Glotech refused to reimburse me for my loss and took absolutely no responsibility whatsoever for the introduction of an engineer they recommended. Customer service were extremely unhelpful and I am now taking both the engineer and Glotech to the small claims court. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Where repairs are booked within the areas covered by our local engineering teams, Glotech acts as the booking agent. We therefore hold the original booking information, but the attending engineer team holds the records relating to the visit, repair, parts, payments and any subsequent refund or complaint. This does unfortunately mean that our office can be limited in what we are able to establish or resolve directly.
I can see that our team has been in communication with you regarding this dispute and has provided as much advice and assistance as we could based on the information available to us. We’re sorry if you felt this was unhelpful; we have genuinely tried to assist despite not being the company that carried out the repair.

Booked through the reviews on trustpilot. They cancelled on me twice when they called me to book again they couldn’t give me an am or pm, not even on the day! Unprofessional however I did get a call 40 mins before from the lovely engineer. I was charged £180 for a plastic arm for my dishwasher costing £35 and less than 10 minutes service. I did have a conversation for 5 mins so maybe that was it.
I politely emailed them for clarification and I was sent a generic email telling me a call out charge is fixed whether it’s 5 or 50 mins.

We’re sorry for the inconvenience caused by the two cancelled appointments, and we completely understand how frustrating it must have been to have your arrangements disrupted. When our team offered to rebook you for the earliest available appointment, unfortunately we were unable to guarantee a specific morning or afternoon time, as unforeseen delays or further changes can sometimes affect engineer schedules. We appreciate this wasn’t ideal.
Regarding the labour fee, this is a fixed charge rather than a fee based on the length of the engineer’s visit. It covers the engineer’s time and work involved in diagnosing, testing and completing the repair, whether this takes a few minutes or considerably longer, so the charge does not reduce based on how long the visit takes. It also provides a six-month warranty for the same fault, meaning we would re-attend to investigate the same issue within this period without an additional labour charge.
We’re pleased that, despite the earlier appointment difficulties, your dishwasher was successfully repaired and that you found the engineer himself to be helpful and considerate. We’re sorry that the overall experience fell short of what you expected and hope we can provide a smoother service in the future.

Terrible service, had booked a time slot between 12.00 and 17.00 and was told at 16.00 the day before that it would be 08.00-13.00. Never had this with other service companies and no confidence at all that they would turn up. Booking with a more reliable company.

Feel like I've been robbed
Called Glotech out to fix my tumble dryer and was quoted a price of around £82 plus VAT plus parts. When the engineer arrived (nice guy), he said that to fix the broken catch on the door it would cost an additional £159 for a whole new door, making the total bill for this experience £258. Bear in mind that you can buy a brand new machine for only a tenner more than that. We declined the repair but still had to pay the call out charge of £99. The engineer was polite and apologetic about this and showed us why the door catch alone (a little bit of plastic maybe worth a couple of pounds) couldn't be replaced without the rest of the door.
It's also clear, having searched online that a replacement door could be obtained for considerably less than £159 so clearly Glotech have put a markup on the parts too.
Feeling more than a bit sore about this. The machine is clearly fixable and we are keen to save resources and protect the planet, but this was not economical. It feels to me that the company should be in a position to assess the job before they come out. I booked online, so providing images should be possible, and I'd provided the model number and could easily have given them a photo of what was broken. There were two phonically from them and one from me to them in order to confirm the model number ahead of the engineer visit. Surely that was an opportunity for the engineer to say that he didn't have the part.
If I'd known the cost estimate based on that I'd not have bothered and not chucked a hundred quid against the wall for nothing. I feel like I've been robbed.

Regarding the replacement door, our parts are sourced through genuine manufacturers and authorised suppliers, and our pricing reflects the quality and source of these parts. We don’t manufacture the parts ourselves, and our price for this particular door is only slightly above the manufacturer’s own price. While cheaper alternatives may sometimes be available elsewhere, we would not fit parts where we cannot be confident of their quality, suitability or origin.
Unfortunately, our office team are not qualified technicians and we cannot always determine the exact parts required from the model number or a description of the fault alone. The engineer needs to inspect the appliance to establish exactly what is required and whether a component can be replaced individually or, as in this case, whether the manufacturer supplies the complete door assembly instead. This is also why we cannot always provide an accurate repair cost before an engineer has attended.
We appreciate that the eventual cost meant you decided not to proceed, and we’re sorry that this left you feeling that the call-out had been a wasted expense. The £99.54 labour fee covers the engineer’s attendance, diagnosis and assessment of the appliance, regardless of whether you choose to proceed with the repair.
We’re pleased to hear that the engineer himself was polite and took the time to explain the situation to you, although we’re sorry the overall experience left you feeling disappointed.
