The rent a car company is definitely a scam. Was charged very low and when I reached here they cancelled my booking because they didnt agree to my Dubai licence which I have used globally and in Europe as well. I had to pay 4 times the money to book a rent a car on the same day.
Really shit experience. The 2.3 stats is for a reason and not sure why Discover Cars works with them.

Absolutely Unacceptable!
Having planned our entire trip based on the car, our experience with this company was a nightmare.
The credit card my husband used to make the reservation was declined due to its short expiration date.
The card expired in 2.5 months instead of 3 so the company could not charge late fees(!) for a possible traffic violation.
We asked them what the point was since someone can cancel a card a week after the rental to avoid these fees.
No answer.
Alternatively, they told me I could use my own credit card for an additional fee, but still the rental was declined because my driver's license was more recent than the company's policy requires.
If the company requires 100 specifications to proceed with a reservation, they should inform customers in advance.
At least they suggested us to another rental company but this doesn't make it a less stressful and awful experience for a family who traveled from abroad.

Very bad experience.
I had booked a car through the company's website using my credit card.
Upon arrival, they informed me that my credit card was not accepted because its expiration date was June 2026, less than the 3 months required by their policy (!).
Alternatively, I used my wife's credit card but again the rental was rejected as her driving license was more recent than the company's policy requires (!).
After 1 hour lost at the counter, I left, losing a reservation that I had made 2 months earlier and whose details the company was aware of.
If the company had a problem with the expiration date of the credit card, they should have informed me from the beginning.
Giving me an unpleasant surprise at the last minute is unprofessional and totally unacceptable.
Stay away!

Our experience as a family with this company was horrific and it was mostly because of the way the issue was handled by a staff member… it was our first time
In Italy and the staff of the branch in Pergamo Airport was beyond unacceptable. Zero customer service skills whatsoever and very patronising tone, and I am being specific for one lady working there on the 11/04/26 around lunchtime, with long dark hair.
We were taken there from the airport to get our car that we had pre-booked (and paid deposit) through a third party, only to discover that they could not accept debit card and that they could not accept our credit card either because it expired in two months ( they only accepted 3 months and over) .The lady working in the counter was constantly saying it is not her company she is just an employee and that she did not make the rules(which we never said she did and we never said it was her fault as both me and my husband work in customer service and know how difficult it can get serving customers), but she was not helping us find a solution. We had an 8 year old and a 4 year old and 5 bags. She just offered us a couple of numbers and none of them was answering. When I asked her to use the toilet as my 4 year old was desperate, she said in a very abrupt and rude voice that they are broken. I had to take my 4 year old outside in public. I honestly believe such people should not be placed in these positions as they have zero empathy and no interest in helping customers whatsoever ( especially customers that do not speak the language and rely on people on customer service positions a lot). When I asked to speak to her supervisor to help us find a solution, since she “was just an employee” , she said her boss cannot be contacted for such a little thing ( my entire family being without a car and therefore without accommodation in a foreign country was “a little thing” for her).I am
glad we met plenty of other Italians, with genuine manners and kindness. She must have been just an exception, thank God! As for this company, please avoid if you can for your own good!

At arrival in the airport I paid a further 247 euros to Galdieri for the full insurance package, this was for the duration of my car hire of one week. This gave me the benefit of knowing I was fully covered if anything happened. Picked up the car on a Sunday and the following Thursday evening I had a tyre blow out on my way to Pisa for dinner with a elderly lady neighbour, we called the breakdown company number on the rental agreement document they supplied and eventually we were told a truck would be arriving within 45 minutes!
It took over 3 hours, after our initial conversation we couldn’t get anyone to answer our return calls.
I managed to contact a neighbour of my friends and fortunately they came for her while I stayed with the car, there was no spare tyre to change and a big hole on the side of the tyre so unable to repair.
The driver of the breakdown vehicle was very unhappy with me when I asked him to drop me back home about 4 miles away and he suggested I call a taxi, we were in the countryside, at midnight with no battery life on my phone as I had been on it constantly for four hours trying to get help.
Fortunately I had a text from the breakdown assistance company telling me where the car would be going that evening to be repaired and I knew that the driver would have to drive through the place I was staying to get there, although he told me he was going in the opposite direction! Fortunately I knew the area and after some shouting and taking photos of his vehicle and license plate he reluctantly agreed to drop me off and I only had a half mile walk to get home.
The next day I managed to get a lift to the tyre fitting company that the breakdown assistance company uses and they told me that a new tyre would be required and it could be ordered immediately for arrival around 5 pm if I paid them 170 euros… I told them the company would pay as they could see in my agreement that I had paid for the assistance insurance to be added with tyres etc included. They told me they would email the company and order when they authorised payment with a returning email, I asked how long that could take and as it was Good Friday it could possibly be the following Tuesday or Wednesday due to the Easter holidays. I was returning to the UK Easter Sunday so I had no choice but to pay him the 170 euros. I got the car back just before the garage closed at 6pm. Full 24 hours without a car.
I returned the vehicle early on the Sunday morning so I could explain my situation with the staff regarding my experience with the evidence of the receipt and the new fitted tyre. The lady looked at the receipt and said she would pass it on to her manager….. nothing reimbursed and no comment from Galdieri….
Good luck if you hire from this company
UPDATE Saturday 18/04/26
Since posting this review I responded to Galdieri requesting further information regarding my experience, my ref number and dates etc… after supplying details they confirmed that by going ahead and paying for the tire I was breaking the rental agreement and would not repay me the €170, although the manager of the garage informed me that a reply from Galdieri could take days over the Easter holiday to get the approval for the repair and I was returning home on Easter Sunday I had no choice but to have them order the tire immediately as it would not arrive until later that evening and if not fitted that day the garage would be on holiday until the following Tuesday!
Absolutely terrible company to deal with after paying the full insurance you expect to be covered, never again!

Stay away.
We discussed pickuptime by phone, were met with closed doors 1,5 hours before closingtime.
Ruined our day and we had to travell back to airport and get a new car from a real rentalcarcompany.

Our experience with this car rental company was unacceptable from start to finish. After arriving, we waited 2–3 hours, wasting a significant part of our day.
When it came time to pay, the situation became even worse. After I carefully calculated the daily rental rates, I noticed that we had been charged around €70 more than the agreed amount after the payment was already processed. When I questioned this, the staff repeatedly tried to convince us that their charge was correct, despite clear evidence that it was not. Only after insisting did they finally admit their mistake, apologise, and promise a refund.
It has now been over a month, and despite repeated follow-ups, they continue to say the refund is “processing.” We have not received a single cent.
At this point, it feels less like a mistake and more like a scam. I would absolutely not recommend this company to anyone. Save your time, your money, and your peace of mind by choosing a more reliable car rental service.
I will also be pursuing legal action to ensure they cannot continue treating customers this way and negatively impacting other people’s vacations.

I booked a car for 22nd September with Galdieri at Pisa Airport. When I arrived to collect the vehicle within 35 minutes of the pickup time, I was told that I was “too late” and that my reservation had been cancelled — despite the booking voucher clearly stating a 59-minute grace period.
As instructed on the voucher, I had previously attempted to call the Galdieri office several times within 10 minutes of the reservation time to confirm I had collected my bags and was on my way. Every call went unanswered and went straight to an Italian recorded message. There was no option to speak to anyone.
When I arrived at the pick up office, the staff were unhelpful, confrontational, and extremely unpleasant. They offered no assistance, no alternative options, and not even an apology. This behaviour made an already difficult situation far worse, and it seems this may be a recurring issue.
As a result, I was forced to book a replacement car at the last minute with a different company — at a much higher cost for a lower-grade vehicle.
The entire experience with Galdieri was stressful, frustrating, and highly unprofessional. A car hire company should have clear, fair processes and follow them. It should also support customers when things go wrong, not simply cancel reservations early and leave travellers stranded.
I later contacted Galdieri’s central customer service team, who were equally unhelpful. Rather than resolving the issue, they questioned the accuracy of my account, even though I provided evidence, including screenshots of my call attempts and details of the alternative booking I had to make.
In addition to the stress and inconvenience, I am financially out of pocket — Galdieri kept my deposit, and I had to pay significantly more for a same-day rental elsewhere. I am confident that I would have a legal basis to pursue compensation, but doing so through a third-party agent (CarJet) would be time-consuming and complex.
I sincerely hope Galdieri improves its customer service and communication. Until then, I cannot recommend them. Their low prices are simply not worth the risk.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Update following Galdieri’s response
Thank you for replying to my review so promptly. However, your response still fails to acknowledge the central point: I arrived well within the 59-minute grace period, yet my booking had already been cancelled.
I have already provided evidence in the form of screenshots showing multiple calls to your Pisa office at 16:40 (23s), 16:42 (5s), 16:48 (15s), 16:50 (7s) and 16:52 (39s) — all of which went unanswered and diverted to an Italian-language voicemail. I also provided screenshots of calls to your commercial partner at 16:53 (because I could not reach your office) and 17:20 (after I had been refused the vehicle). Although I do not have recordings, the timestamps support my account: I arrived at your desk around 17:05, approximately 35 minutes after the scheduled pickup time of 16:30.
Your reply states that “there would have been no reason not to provide you with the car if your arrival at the desk had been within the 59-minute grace period.” Yet my reservation WAS cancelled within that window. Instead of acknowledging the possibility of an error in your system or process, your responses so far have simply dismissed my account without offering any explanation or apology.
I would also welcome clarification from you on the exact time your system shows my booking as cancelled — a point you have not addressed.
My experience of Galdieri has been of a process that did not function correctly, no meaningful customer support, and repeated suggestions that I was at fault despite clear evidence to the contrary.
For these reasons, my original conclusion remains unchanged: AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

I strongly advise caution when dealing with this company. They are also partnering with a European company, “Wheego”. There is an Egyptian person at the counter who works at the Holiday Inn Express near Dubai Airport. Deposit refund misrepresentation: I was initially told that my deposit would be refunded within 20 days, but later, I was informed that it would take 30 working days. This shifting of terms feels deliberately misleading.
Fabricated damages: At drop-off, they alleged new scratches and even “smoking damage,” despite my clear record of the vehicle’s condition. Their so-called “evidence” was presented after the fact, and they pressured me into signing a checklist under duress.
Customer treatment: Instead of resolving the issue fairly, they responded with dismissive and accusatory language, attempting to shift blame entirely onto the customer. This experience has been stressful and unprofessional. In my view, their practices are designed to delay refunds and invent reasons to retain deposits. I would not recommend them to anyone seeking honest service until or unless I hate that person. It was torture.

I rented a vehicle from Galdieri Rent a Car at Bergamo Airport (BGY) for a long period, carrying out several successive extensions. Although the car was in good condition and the initial rates were competitive, the return experience was extremely unpleasant and unprofessional.
I requested an extension of the return time from 12:30 PM to 8:00 PM on the final day due to my delay flight. The agreement was established over the phone with a company agent. Initially, a fee of €43 was mentioned, but given my status as a long-term customer, the agent verbally agreed to waive the fee and promised to make the necessary changes in the system.
On the day of the return, I was contacted by the company and informed that no agreement existed in the system. They then demanded I pay an entire extra day's rental for a few hours of delay—an unreasonably high charge. The company initially refused to honor the agreement, and repeatedly told me I had no proof of the conversation. After I sent them a screenshot confirming the discussion took place, the agent then argued that I had no proof that they explicitly agreed to waive the fee. I felt this constant refusal and insistence on the lack of proof was an abuse of authority and deeply humiliating as a customer.
When I tried to explain the situation over the phone, the agent abruptly ended the call, stating: "Either you bring the car back in one hour, or you pay an extra day," and then hung up on me.
It was only after a formal escalation of the situation through written messages (WhatsApp), where I requested managerial intervention and pointed out the failure to comply with the agreement, that the company reversed its decision and confirmed that I would NOT have to pay the additional fee, finally apologizing for the "misunderstanding."
While the issue was ultimately resolved, the process was stressful, time-consuming, and required firm intervention on my part to enforce an already established agreement. This incident highlights a severe lack of professionalism in internal communication, customer treatment, and honoring promises at the agency level.
UPDATE: My Reply to the Company's Response
Thank you for your reply and for reviewing the events. However, I am disappointed with how you have chosen to present them, suggesting that the final decision was merely an act of "good faith" on your part.
I fully understand the contractual rules regarding the delay, and I never disputed the validity of that rule.
The core of my dissatisfaction was not the cost, but the failure of your desk staff to honor a verbal agreement previously established by a colleague.
I reiterate that a phone agreement existed in which the fee waiver was promised to me, a fact implicitly confirmed by the final resolution. The failure to correctly register this agreement in your internal system is a Galdieri internal communication deficiency, not a matter of "perception" on my part.
You mentioned granting the extension "with no evidence" and relying on my "good faith." This is inaccurate. Because your staff repeatedly insisted on the lack of proof, I formally requested the recording of the telephone conversation where the agreement was initially made, specifically to demonstrate that my statement was accurate.
The decision to honor the agreement (and the subsequent apology for the "misunderstanding") came immediately after I requested that recording. This strongly suggests that Galdieri acknowledged the existence of that conversation and the verbal agreement.
The dispute was not about the money, as I would have paid the initial extension fee. It was about the principle of honoring a commitment and the disrespect shown by repeatedly suggesting I was being dishonest, rather than acknowledging an internal error.
I hope you will use this experience to improve your internal procedures, ensuring that promises made to customers are always recorded and honored.

Having read some of the previous reviews, we were apprehensive to say the least about what we would be facing when we got to Bergamo. In all honesty though, we were pleasantly surprised. There was an initial hiccup at pick-up with the driver initially not being willing to transfer us, but after a phone call all was resolved. The car we were handed was virtually new, and the process went without hitch. No problems at all during the hire and when we returned the vehicle, the hand-back went just as smoothly. Yes, we were advised to take photos and video of the car both at pick up and drop off but didn't need to rely on those. Don't normally feel the need to respond to reviews, but can honestly say our experience was not as others and we would hire from them again. Credit where credit is due.

My experience was great although the beginning was a bit tough.
I had been mistaken when I had written my arrival time . So I arrived at 8oclock pm instead of 10 00 am
The manager at the office told me they didn't have my car ( of course) .
But he kindly arranged a solution that was perfect for me.
I admire his professionalism.
The car was perfect and very clean.
Thanks to him waiting longer than closing time, my sister and I had a great holiday in that wonderful country!
Thank you again, sir !

Just don't!
You may be attracted to Galdieri because they appear to be the cheapest. They are not! They will attempt to fleece you for extra insurance.
Very dodgy company. They lurk on the edge of the airport in Alghero. Don't go there!!!

Naples - I did my checks before hand, saw there office is at the end of the road and not inside the terminal building. The staff member in the office explained everything perfectly (didn’t force extra expenses etc), then a short 30 second walk to the parking lot away from the Airport chaos.
Expected Fiat 500X or similar, received Skoda Kamiq which was perfectly fine and was in like new condition, a few scratches as explained by the receptionist on the sheet. Not a problem.
On return a quick 5 minute exchange/inspection and deposit was received same day.
Very Happy.

I have booked the Galdieri Rent in Fiumicino via DoYouItaly.com. It was cheap to be true, but 3 years ago I've got a car about the same price without any problems. Now the guy behind the counter just ignored our bookings under any excuse: the guy in front of us has a credit card which was determined as "doesn't look like a credit card, show me a word "credit" on it", our hand written IDP was declared as "fake" (as he is a carabiner or local police), but he pointed to the next "Green Motion" counter and there is no problem with my "fake & expired (it has handwriting dates in two places and one of them has some double marks due to the failed pen)" IDP if I buy for 25-30 times expensive with so-called "full insurance", regardless that you already paid for a full insurance. And I'm sure, it would be vice versa, if you happened to have a booking with the next counter, he will decline your booking and refer you to the GaldieriRent: both of them have the same driver requirements as per the IDP. By the way, I have on me the notarized Italian translation of my driver license which is allowed by the Law instead of a IDP, but the clerk even didn't want to hear me, when his parking lot was overcrowded with available cars. I guess, they provide to DoyouItaly.com and other aggregators with dumping prices to lure especially Americans into the money pit and share with them profit because the aggregators keep their share. Your family ready for a vacation, flied 9hrs, pretty tired and... bum. Then you go to a "respectful" car rental in the airport without any reservation and learn that you have to wait at least 3hrs because you don't have any reservation and pay for "full insurance", but your card, no matter what, will be charged for huge amount reserved. Somehow, I expect a response from the owner that they reconstructed events with its crew and bla, bla, bla… it was your own fault.

Dangerous vehicle and no customer support.
We hired a minibus from Milan for 4 days in the Italian Alps for a wedding event. The vehicle developed a brake fault including warning messages on the dash board. Hill start function became disabled (we were in a mountain region). We needed to use taxis instead to be safe.
Follow up took over a month and was complete denial. I have photos of the dashboard error codes....customer service said the vehicle is fine and has been rented again.
Avoid.

I have been using Galdieri at Naples Airport for some time, both at Rome and Naples Airport. The staff and service is excellent, especially Naples Airport, in fact I prefer to fly to Naples Airport so that I can have a stressfree experience with Galdieri. Having rented from various rentals in Italy over the years, this particular office at Capodochino is the best I have dealt with, all down to it's wonderful staff. Five Stars
