I found this confusing
I found this confusing. I updated my details on Saturday 25 July and thought that they’d been saved and that the insurance had been renewed. The amount was in the region of £370. I received and email with documents. When an Amex notification of 0.30p popped up, I thought this was odd. I then got a text today to remind me to renew, I logged in and went through the same procedure again but was charged £419.
I’d be grateful for clarification.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback.
We have reviewed your account and can confirm that your changes were not saved because your renewal invitation had already been issued. Once a renewal quote is available, any changes must be made to the renewal quote, not the current policy. On 25 July, you selected "Make a Change" instead of "Renew Policy", so the changes were applied to your current policy not your renewal.
This is why you were only charged £0.30, as this related to the remaining term of your current policy. The documents you received also related to this amendment.
When you later logged in using the renewal option, your changes were applied to your renewal quote. The revised renewal premium actually decreased following these amendments, and you successfully renewed your policy.
