My friend and I went on the flying…
My friend and I went on the flying Scotsman on 25May it was a very hot day and very crowded. I think there was 3 or4 trips planned . We paid £60 each for this trip . Our carriage was at the end of a long row of carriages in open seating . I had been in a local train trip a couple of months before and noticed that the cleanliness of the carriages toilets and walkways looked unwashed, really like no one had ever cleaned.
Even the windows were dirty, I thought with a big event like this £60 tickets and up to £400 for individual carriages( plus for food )I expected more. I felt like this event was basically a massive money making event , like totally.
It was very nice seeing the Scotsman very little in the way of sounds from the train which is part of it for me .
There was plenty of staff on duty helpful and cheery but the whole event was a let down .
One of the organisers was standing near where we were sitting on the return journey and he was singing the fact that the food and train package was a big hit etc again like I say all about money no mention of the unhygienic conditions in the toilet behind him.
I wouldn’t go again.
Don’t pay extra for souvenir tin !
We went on Ruddington, Flying Scotsman trip. All staff from ‘checking in’ around the site and on the train, were very pleasant, friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the ride past lovely countryside. The engine was magnificent. Only reason not 5 star is the £20 extra I paid for ‘souvenir tin with baked treats’. I thought the tin itself would have had embossed picture of the train on it, unfortunately it was a plain tin with a card slip on cover, baked goods use by dates 02.09.2026. That was only disappointment as I wanted tin as a souvenir of trip for my husband, as it was present for his 70th birthday.

Great Central Railway Loughborough cream tea
We travelled on the Great Central Railway at Loughborough on 17th May 2026, with a cream tea. We really enjoyed the experience. Trish, the Fox and Edwards representative, was very welcoming, the cream tea was good (choice of plain and fruit scones was good as not everyone likes fruit scones) and the first class coach was comfortable. The train journey was very relaxing and an experience from a bygone era. Thank you all.
Tornado
Great Central Railway Nottingham / Ruddington
Fabulous journey travelling behind Tornado plus visit to footplate of The Flying Scotsman.
Extremely well organised by friendly and welcoming staff with great service
Great value for money

We travelled on the Fox and Edward Train line today, from North Weald to Ongar, Epping and back again.
We loved it so much, we had such very friendly and helpful staff, delicious fish and chips on the train, lovely scenery and really great fun... Thank you so much

Watercress Line Fish and Chips
Great customer service today.
Fish and chips on the Watercress Line.
Welcomed warmly by Watercress line staff and Fox and Edwards representative. Clear instructions and process worked well.
Lovely steam train journey and the fish and chips were great ... good portion , could have been a tad hotter but not a disaster. Flapjack and bottle of water included. Salt , pepper and vinegar in the bag.
Lovely few hours , Fox and Edwards representative was friendly , humorous and work very hard to keep all running smoothly
Fish and Chip Fiasco
Travelled on the Fish and Chip train from Loughborough on 2 May. The train journey was lovely as were all the stations en route.
The fish and chips was truly awful. Poor quality fish and rock hard batter. Cheap wooden cutlery was less than useless. Bottles of Costco water and a flapjack. The fish complaint seems to be a recurring theme throughout the reviews. Fox and Edwards really do need to up their game. Certainly was not worth £75 ! Spoilt what was looking like a lovely day. Came away feeling completely ripped off when paid for parents anniversary. Would not recommended. Have looked at afternoon tea but at £80 that feels a bit of a rip off too !
Our trip on the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway
Our trip on the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway was a Birthday gift.
The experience was delightful; the Fox & Edwards representative, Becky, was most helpful and had a happy demeanour.
The trip was exactly on time, travelling through beautiful countryside to Duffield and back, our trip included a fish and chip meal; this meal was collected at Duffield Station, and was carried out with military precision.
The fish and chips could not be faulted, both were hot and well cooked, accompanied by bottled water and flapjacks.
From our experience, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this trip.
I notice several negative reviews of this company have been given, but these did not reflect in any way our experience,
Great staff, train and food
Staff on our steam train journey were excellent. Helpful, friendly and professional.
We had a fish and chip lunch in Bluebell Railway in Sussex.
I was sceptical as to a mass provision of fish and chips expecting cold, soggy and greasy food- it was anything but. Lovely fish, crispy chips and still hot.
Train journey was excellent pulled by a beautiful steam engine.
Blaenavon
Blaenavon, 2 miles total 1 back and 1 forward. Was stopped more than going. Carriage was dirty, seats were completely shot. Fish and we had to collect ourselves from a take away van in the car park, and was poor at best. Absolutely painful experience for all four of us,even the dog looked depressed. Good job we so the funny side, it that bad it was funny.
Watercress Line Fish & Chip Lunch
The setting and the journey on the train itself was a lovely experience, and the Fox & Edwards representative very organised and friendly. What really let the day down was the very poor quality lunch of fish and chips, handed out in boxes after queuing, including a cheap bar of flapjack and a bottle of water. Attempting to eat the rock hard batter with wooden cutlery that was as flimsy as paper was ridiculously difficult. Given out in paper bags it was nothing better than a supermarket meal deal, except a meal deal would have been far better value. Traveller’s who book for only 2 have to share a table with someone who, in our case, clearly didn’t want to share! This experience is very expensive and poor value, considering that you can book something similar directly with the Watercress Line, or in fact take your own lunch and just buy a return ticket … every carriage has seating with tables, so you can have a great experience, far better lunch quality and all for a fraction of the cost.
Chippy Tea on the Steam Train at Bo'ness & Kinneil
The actual journey itself was amazing and the staff we met were very friendly and welcoming - however the food we got certainly did not live up to our expectations and looked nothing like the food in the photos advertising the trip. The batter on both the fish and the sausage suppers was very soggy, and the chips could've done with being cooked longer and the fish extremely greasy. I have a photo of the actual meal but it looks like I'm not able to upload it to show the difference from the photo displayed or I would've uploaded it to confirm this review. For the money we paid for this experience I was really disappointed as we were so looking forward to the actual meal on board.

Don’t waste your money 😬 we went to the gruffalo & Gruffalos child exp at blaenavon heritage railway. Honestly what a load of crock.
We turned up expecting to spend some time with the gruffalo & child after being on the railway. No - there was a tent on the railway station where you had to Queue up literally take a quick picture with the gruffalo - NO CHILD. The buffalo was holding a gruffalo child’s toy 😂 after said quick picture you are ushered out for the next person to take a picture. "Gruffalo experience” lasted approx 30 seconds. Then your ushered onto this train which literally pops back and forth a station 😂 absolutely awful don’t waste your money with these character experiences!
Relaxing, enjoyable and fun afternoon
A lovely relaxing experience from
Ruddington, Nottinghamshire with cream tea.
All the staff were so friendly, helpful, kind, and very well organised, making the experience even more pleasant. I would highly recommend this company for a steam train experience.
Thank you Natalie and everyone else for your help and attention to detail, making for a lovely enjoyable afternoon .

We went on a steam train with afternoon tea in tenterdon Kent was fabulous experience and would definitely do it again amazing thank you 😊
Santa train, rushed and boring experience
We visited "Santa's magical steam train" in Blaenavon yesterday, and were really underwhelmed by the experience. We moved forward and back between stations close together and spent more time stationary than we did moving. Carriages were cold and unlit, not a Christmas light or song in sight. We were also the last table to see both Mrs Claus and Santa, leaving both interactions incredibly rushed, with Santa even checking his watch as other passengers left the train. Two stars because our two year old knew no different, and enjoyed her biscuit and gift from Santa. I'd really recommend booking elsewhere! Overall, scandalous for the cost of the tickets.
Incompetence, narcissism & arrogance
Fox & Edwards, the by words for incompetence arrogance and narcissism. Blames others when they make a complete mess of organisation.

Fabulous time on the Gwili Santa steam train. Staff went above and beyond to make it a special day for everyone. This is our second time on the Christmas steam train and I would book it again next year. Santa took time to sit and talk to our two boys. It was magical for them. Naughty elf made the boys laugh. Mother Christmas gave the boys Christmas books. The whole experience was brilliant, so thank you to all staff involved. Highly recommend you book this train ride.
