When I saw that Everand had added a new…
When I saw that Everand had added a new plan to allow me premium titles previously unavailable, I was fine with that. I can still read non-premium books included in the cost. The increase to $16.99 is not daunting for three premium books per month. That's two more than I get on Audible every month.
That said, I've been in a loop of frustration for weeks now, trying to upgrade to the new plan, to which the app informs me I am already enrolled. I've emailed them many times and gotten back the same responses many times and nothing has changed. I've sent them screenshots of what happens, the version numbers of Everand and my iPhone, and the name of the book Ive been trying to access for weeks.
EVERAND!
I DEMAND A RESPONSE.
Not the same response, a new response with actual information that I can actually use.
Is there a reason that they cannot simply send me a link which I can use to access the book? Either charge me, or as a show with good faith? Something? Anything?

Don’t waste your money. AWFUL.
They completely changed their model and now the value is terrible. They went from having unlimited books to only THREE, and that’s if you pay for their premium plan. And the premium plan is MORE expensive than their old unlimited plan. So instead of unlimited books, you now pay MORE money for the ability to obtain THREE books per month. Such a scam and a joke.

I've been paying for a subscription but everytime I go to read something it tells me to buy a subscription but if I click buy it says I already have a subscription. I wrote to the customer help with no response.

Wish I could give zero stars
Wish I could give zero stars. I’ve had an account with Scribd, now Everand, for well over a decade. I’d been having problems with my account the last few months, and had gone back and forth with customer service for weeks, to try and figure out a solution. They finally told me there was nothing they could do, and that I should cancel my current subscription (Legacy Monthly) and resubscribe to premium at the end of the month. I followed their instructions, and have now lost access to HUNDREDS of books. Before I didn’t have brand new/crazy popular titles, but there were so many included that I was fine paying for the service. Now I’m paying a higher price and only have access to THREE books a month. THREE. I went from essentially unlimited access (to admittedly not always amazing books), to THREE. I am so distraught and feel so deceived by this company. What a horrible, horrible system change.
I wish I had taken 30 seconds to look at…
I wish had taken 30 seconds to look at current reviews (post 10/31/24) before changing my subscription to a "PLUS" membership. I asked if I would have access to all the same books, ebooks, YES, and 150 K more, and I was told. Ouch, it's all Bull Sh*t. All the books are now locked, and I can only "unlock" 3 per month. Save yourself time, trouble and money; just skip this Everand rip-off!
Everand, What Happened to You?!?!?
What was once the best value for audio books, is now an inferior product in every way to Audible. Scribd / Everand was once the "Netflix" of audio books. Whatever was there, you could listen to it. Now they are a 2nd tier, Audible clone with fewer books and less value.
I've seen on here where customer support is trying to say you get 3 unlocks for less, but what they are not telling you are the most important things. Audible has twice as many books available, they have exclusives not available on Everand, you get to keep your books forever, and you DO NOT have to have a subscription to Audible to go back and listen to those books you've bought with your subscription tokens. But in order to listen to the books you have "unlocked" with Everand, you MUST have a subscription. Plus, Audible will show you ALL of your listening history. Everand will only show you the last 20ish books. Like I said, a 2nd tier Audible clone.
They also misled myself, and everyone else, to switched to the new subscription plan. The way it is phrased is the books that are available, or "unlimited", under the old plan, are still "unlimited" under the new plan. That is a flat out LIE. I listen to roughly 20 different series and now EVERY book in those series are now locked.
I have submitted a ticket to support but I have not heard back from them; nor do I expect to hear from them. What can they say? Either accept it or leave? I have no option but to leave. Why pay for a cannibalized, poorly changed and inferior product?
I was an Audible user for years and switched to Scribd (now Everand), roughly 4 years ago. I switched because it was a superior product. Now, it's just a sad shell of what made it great.
If you're looking for an audiobook service or unhappy with Everand, which I suspect most users are now, choose or switch to Audible. It's just a superior service now.

Responding to Everand's generic response
As you can see, Everand has replied with the same generic response. You can see the exact same response on other reviews here and other reviewing services. They never address the issues of an inferior product. All they state is you get 3 unlocks vs 2 tokes for less. What good does a lower price point that offers less and now an inferior product do for the consumer? If I had the opportunity to go back to the original subscription plan, I would. It was a worthwhile product. But now that they are trying to be an Audible mini-me clone, they are horribly outclassed. As stated before, Everand is no longer worth the subscription. Get better and more for your money. Switch or subscribe to Audible.

Never subscribing again
Never subscribing again! Your new unlocking model is terrible. Turn it back to how it was or I will never subscribe again. I can see other comments that people hate it too. This was a terrible business move. Deleted my Everand app for the first time ever and will not get it again unless it's back to the way it was. I'll stick to the Libby app. Evrand is no longer worth the money.
Love that you are sending a nonsense auto reply to everyone who is telling you your new system sucks. I can't imagine you're going to keep subscribers under the this model. You for sure never me get back until you put it back the way it was. Lame auto reply. Also insisting you're a great value is ridiculous. That's for the customer to decide. You know what's a great value? Libby. I'll stick to that until you go back to what you were and if you don't, I'll never be back.

Loved it. Now leaving it.
I used to love Scribd and then it became Everand and they came up with the worst, most incomprehensible unlocking scheme which I would rather pay more than have to deal with. They seem to think people live in a black box waiting to get their books and have nothing better to do than keep track of when they get more tokens. They seriously need to hire some UX professionals.
How to Go from Best Value to Junk in a Year
I rarely leave reviews, and a year ago this would have been a 5 star review of Scribd. I was a multi-year subscriber and could not have been happier with the product. I recommended it repeatedly to family and friends because it was hands-down the best value in the space. Even with the occasional “hidden limits” (which occurred only rarely), it was head and shoulders above its competitors. In fact, I’m not sure it really had competitors given that it offered a product remarkably better and different than the credit-based products like Audible. Then one day, without warning, the world changed and Everand gutted their catalog, changed the pricing model dramatically, and abandoned the very thing that made them the best value in the space. That was enough to make me cancel my multi-year subscription, but then I came to find out that you don’t OWN the books you get with your credits. You RENT them — they are only available while you are paying for a monthly subscription! At least with Audible, you OWN the books you buy. I wouldn’t have continued to subscribe after the terrible change to their model anyway, but if I ever found value in a credit-based model, I would choose a vendor that lets me own the books I purchase with my credits. Honestly, Everand could have doubled the monthly subscription price and I would have stayed. It still would have been a unique product and a great alternative to the likes of Audible. Everand will go into the business history books as a textbook example of the Law of Diminishing Returns. They may be more profitable per subscriber with their new model, but the changes implemented will drive countless customers like me away. So many, in fact, that the company will lose far more than they did in their old, unique model. I have no doubt whatsoever that Everand made a business-ending decision, and they gave Audible the best Christmas gift ever.

Content not worth the cost and questionable business practices
I was in my second year of a subscription and absolutely loved Everand - the content and the price were very good. However, the new model and pricing is ridiculous- there is virtually no desirable content outside the locked titles which means you pay $12 a month for one book. I can find the same books on sale for significantly less.
The worst part and the primary reason I have cancelled my subscription is the extremely deceptive and misleading manner in which they enticed people (me included) to switch to the new plan and lose access to all the content previously available. I'm not interested in dealing with any company that has questionable business practices and ethics. The information provided indicated that existing subscribers would not lose access to their saved content, but that was not true. I sent an email asking to reinstate my account to the legacy plan or refund my remaining subscription. I received an automated response telling me to request a refund, but of course, the policy states that a refund will not be given. Very disappointed in the way this company handled the change and now appear to try to placate dissatisfied customers with a "change is hard" story line.

Rip off access to audiobooks - not financially viable
Very disappointed in the amount of audiobooks I am permitted this month. If this is going to be the norm then Everand is no longer going to be financially viable and returning to Audible will be the way to go.
The really pitiful action from them was to cut off access partway through a book. I am not sure what their business model is but it is not good and if this is the case I would no linger recommend them to anybody.
After my time of using Everand
After my time of using Everand, I am now canceling my account and subscription.
When it was announced they were switching to a limited use program I, with everyone else was devastated. This was my most used audiobook app, but I decided to give it a shot.
My advise just don't. Don't sign up. The ability to look for the unlimited items is next to impossible and nothing I would suggest unless you do the classics that most free PDF versions are free use online and AI narrators (which sooooo not cool for me).
I wasn't going to switch the legacy plan but I was repeatedly told my library would still be available to me after switching and there was plenty of unlimited content to still have access to. As soon as I switched all my library was locked and there was not even the novella self pubs available in ebook to read. The service did not benefit anyone and they keep just ignoring everyone's complaints.
This is after months of having problems with usage on the app and then not doing a single thing to address or fix the problem.
I am heartbroken. If you are looking for an audible alternative I still wouldn't suggest this app now. I recommend Libro where they at the very least support small businesses and indie bookstores.
Lied about switching plans and access to audiobooks. Locked up all non-AI audiobooks
I asked specifically when I was on the legacy plan, that if I switched to one of the other plans 'would I still have access to all the stuff that was previously free.' They said several times that this was the case.
In an email thread they said "The Standard plan has everything the Legacy plan has + access to premium content. The Legacy plan does not have access to premium content and will not receive any unlocks. You would not lose access to anything that was available before switching"
But this is not to the case. I'm looking at specific titles I can access for free before and I can no longer access them for free!
It seems they locked up all the audiobooks without a digital narrator. I had access to many of these before on the legacy plan!
This is not acceptable.
Update: The support ticket mentioned below did not fix this problem. They offered me a few unlock credits and mentioned the very much more limited access that I now have
My response
"Yes, I still find this unacceptable. The question was about whether the new plan would change my access to anything I previously had access to whether or not I had already accessed it, saved it etc.
I asked several times and was told that the new plan would not cause any loss of access to what I previously had access to. See the previously cited email exchange. But this was clearly not the case! As the switch was made under false pretenses, I request you switch me back to the old legacy plan. Otherwise I may be forced to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

Disappointed in the new change
Disappointed in the new change. Corporate greed! It was good the way you had it! I’ll be dropping it soon once I finish the book I was listening to. I started when it was $9.99 unlimited and now it’s $16.99 with only 3 titles per month! Bs

Everand recently changed pricing
Everand recently changed how they let you get books. Only one book per month isn't enough. No way to determine what they consider "premium" but looks like any popular writer cannot be accessed. They are trying to push you to lower level books that are impossible to even get through.
I'll be looking for alternatives and hopefully will be able to cancel my subscription soon.
Do Not Upgrade to New plan. You will pay more for a lot less
I am an ever and subscriber. Last month, they put on their app that there will be a lot more books but you would pay to get 1 or 3 unlocks. They made you think you were getting more books. But beware, if you switch to a new plan, you will lose access to the many books you had before and now have to use an unlock to get it. And you don’t even get to own the book. If you drop the service, you will have to resubscribe to have access to them. In the beginning of November 2024, I thought it was the absolute best service and now December 2024, I feel it the absolute worse service. They make you think that if you upgrade, you will have better service but it is a lie. If you are happy with the subscription you had before November 2024, my advice. “DO NOT SWITCH YOUR PLAN”

It was great when it was Scribd, Everand has completly ruined it.
It was great when it was Scribd, Everand bought it and ruined it. Used to be about $10 per month for unlimited content. Now it's $12 per month for 1 "unlock". I pre-paid for an annual membership for unlimited content. I mistakenly "upgraded" to the new plan because they were super shady about the explanation. Before I "upgraded" only 1 title in my extensive saved list required an "unlock". After "upgrading", EVERY title in my saved list requires an unlock. I had three months left on my pre-paid membership. So I went from unlimited content to 1 "unlock". The ONLY reason, I "upgraded" was because it looked like very few titles required an unlock. This is obviously not an "upgrade", thus the quotation marks. Such a drastic change and makes it not worth it AT ALL. I'll just buy more from Audible with the money I save by not renewing Everand.
UPDATE since Everand response: Everand's solution to scamming me out of 3 months prepaid unlimited listening was to offer me 3 "unlocks", so 3 books versus unlimited books. They are, of course, free to drastically change their business model, but when customers pre-pay, that should be honored. Instead of honoring that, they proposed an "upgrade" at anytime. Moving from unlimited listening to 1 book per month for the same price is NOT and upgrade. I don't see a future for Everand under their new business model. They don't offer the newest books and their listening app is sub-par. Also, the "free" content they claim to offer, not one of the 155 books in my Saved list are "free". They all now require an "unlock", while before the "upgrade" only one of the titles required an unlock.

Too Expensive, Too Limited, Too Buggy
I switched from Amazon Unlimited to Everand about one year ago. It’s been great until now. With the new model I can’t find a single example of books I’ve read in the past still available without using an unlock. So, for $12 per month I can read one book per month. (BTW I have one unlock to use, but the app won’t let me use it—a bug.) I can purchase most books outright for less than this. So, goodbye Everand and hello Amazon until I can find something better.
