Really mixed experience
Really mixed experience. We first learnt about Eco Flooring at the Grand Designs show in late 2021, then we had the flooring installed in March 2022.
The flooring is lovely and we really like the look, but the experience has been rather mixed. Arranging installation was done in very friendly way and very accomodating as we had other works going on and some delays with contractors.
We were told that underboarding would be required and this would be extra but provided at cost, with the installers going to source this when they arrived at site. Installation took place over a couple of days, but unfortunately seems to have been rather rushed (a flooring restorers view) due to a fitter needing to attend a funeral. There are a large number of gaps between the boards that now need to be filled. Considering the floor definitely 'settles' for weeks after install I'm slightly surprised a repeat visit isn't performed later after install to remediate. At the end of the install we paid the installer directly and were told the boarding was an extra £900 which definitely isn't 'cost' and we regret not asking for a supporting receipt. There were some marked/dark pieces of wood that really should have been discarded or installed to the sides ready to go under the kitchen units rather than installed in the visible area of the middle of the floor. I highlighted 2 of these and they were replaced very grudgingly by the installer who was very keen to just get away, didn't remove the rubbish and offcuts that which were just left in our garden. There was also some unpleasantness around the leftover wood - we had paid for 38 sqm (to include 20% wastage) and at the end the installer insisted that the residual wood bundles were not ours and would be removed (we thought we would keep some for future repairs if needed). Some phone calls were required, they were removed and at the end of it all I'm still not sure what the situation was or whether it was just mixed communications.
Due to other works going on and wanting to match up looks I've enquired on what treatment was applied to the wood and yet to receive a response several weeks later.
Summary is - it looks good but really requires some post install correction, the install left me feeling on edge and after sales seems disjointed. I feel a bit torn about it all, which is a shame as had really good feelings from the first interaction and the installation scheduling etc, let down after that.
