We received exceptional care from Tom, Ellen, Tracey and the team at East Durham Funeral Service. Their warmth, compassion and professionalism made a very difficult time feel more manageable.
Their personal approach was greatly appreciated in accommodating any wishes, and visits to the Chapel of Rest which were at times out of hours. We are very grateful for the kindness and support they showed to us throughout this time as a family. We would not hesitate to recommend East Durham Funeral Service to friends and family.

When my dad died, East Durham Funeral Services provided a level of care and compassion that went far beyond anything I expected. From the very first conversation with Ellen, she made an unbearable time feel a little lighter, guiding us through every step with genuine kindness and respect.

They didn’t just handle the parts that we expected, they took on so much more. They organised the photos and slideshow beautifully, arranged the catering, and even sorted the venue for the wake. Every detail was handled thoughtfully and professionally, and it felt like nothing was too much trouble for them. Ellen’s communication was consistent throughout, ensuring she updated us on the smallest details.

What stood out most was how personal they made everything. It never felt like a service; it felt like support. They treated my dad with dignity and treated us with warmth, patience, and understanding at a time when we really needed it.

I’m so grateful for everything they did. They truly went above and beyond, and I can’t recommend them highly enough.

The staff communicated clearly, ensuring that we were kept informed and reassured at every stage. It was obvious that they truly cared about making the occasion special and meaningful for our family. What stood out most was the way they went above and beyond, tailoring the service to reflect mam’s personality and our wishes (wearing red). Their attention to detail and willingness to accommodate any request made a world of difference, allowing us to focus on remembering mam rather than worrying about everything else.

EDF recently organised our mothers funeral and from our first meeting with them they guided us step by step, offered help and advice in a truly professional manner at all times both during working and out of working hours service

The professionalism in which the service was carried out from start to finish by all the East Durham Funeral Service staff were exemplary, the notification of service, order of service, the cars and drivers, pall bearers the spread for the wake afterwards, the keepsake cards afterwards for the family, all the smallest of details made by all the staff to make a sad event more bearable.

Excellent service by all involved. Ellen and Tom were outstanding to deal with and full of compassion. Nothing was too much trouble and they made the whole process much more bearable.
