Issue Resolved with a Fair Solution

I have been a loyal customer of Contabo for two years, but I am deeply disappointed by their recent business ethics. Despite their starting prices remaining stable for new customers, they have increased my bill by $4 within two years for each server.

When I contacted support, I received a generic response claiming these hikes were due to "AI booms" and "hardware costs." It is ethically questionable to charge long-term customers for investments meant to attract new ones. Furthermore, I am being forced to pay for "features" I never requested, such as AI assistants and 1-click apps.

To make matters worse, the support team (or their AI) cannot even distinguish between my name and my server ID, repeatedly addressing me by my domain identifier instead of my actual name. As a user who values German business ethics, this experience has been a total letdown. I have already decided to migrate my servers to a more reliable and ethically-driven provider.

Ich bin seit zwei Jahren loyaler Kunde von Contabo, aber die aktuelle Geschäftsethik enttäuscht mich zutiefst. Während die Einstiegspreise für Neukunden stabil bleiben, wurde meine Rechnung innerhalb von zwei Jahren um 4 USD erhöht.

Der Support rechtfertigt dies mit dem "KI-Boom" und "Hardwarekosten". Es ist ethisch fragwürdig, Bestandskunden für Investitionen zur Neukundengewinnung zur Kasse zu bitten. Zudem werden mir Funktionen aufgezwungen, die ich nie bestellt habe, wie KI-Assistenten.

Erschwerend kommt hinzu, dass der Support nicht einmal in der Lage ist, meinen Namen von meiner Server-ID zu unterscheiden. Ich hatte eine höhere Erwartung an die deutsche Geschäftsethik. Meine Entscheidung steht fest: Ich werde meine Server zu einem ethisch korrekten Anbieter umziehen.

Update: The QA Manager reached out and offered some temporary solutions, including a 3-month postponement and a currency swap. While I appreciate the effort, my concern is not just a few dollars or a few months; it is the lack of long-term ethical pricing and predictability for loyal customers. I am still waiting for a commitment that doesn't feel like a "loyalty tax" before I consider updating my rating.

UPDATE (09 April 2026): After my initial feedback, the QA Manager (Gil) reached out personally. We had a professional discussion about loyalty and ethical pricing. As a result, they provided a very fair solution that I can accept. I appreciate Contabo for listening to their long-term customers and taking responsibility for a fair resolution. 5 stars for the recovery and Gil's professional support.

Highly appreciate the prompt resolution and the professionalism shown

**Update: Issue Resolved — Impressed by Management's Response**

I initially had a frustrating experience with the verification process. Despite submitting my driving license and passport as clear images, I received a rejection after 24 hours stating I had "not shared any documents" — which was completely incorrect.

However, once the Support Team Manager became aware of the situation, the response was swift, professional, and genuinely impressive. The issue was resolved promptly, and the manager went above and beyond to ensure I felt valued as a customer. The level of care, accountability, and efficiency shown at the management level truly stands out.

It's reassuring to know that when things go wrong, there are dedicated leaders who take ownership and make things right. This kind of customer-first attitude deserves recognition. I'm happy to revise my experience to a positive one, thanks entirely to the manager's outstanding intervention.

The VPS service is honestly awesome! Zero downtime so far. That said, I don’t like that they’ve raised prices for existing customers while still showing the old pricing for some plans on their website (I've received 2 price bumps in almost 2 years, one of them higher than the first)

Prompt response

I paid for the VPS, but the initial setup was blocked by KYC requirements. Thankfully Contabo was fast to respond to my e-mail reply with the necessary information, on a Saturday and a public holiday in Germany as well, so I didn't have to wait until Monday and have my server setup be delayed when I needed it ASAP. I will still decide on the quality of the service, but at least I can do what I need with it for now.
