I've been mining for a long time.
I've self-hosted, worked with a small datacenter, and have settled on Compass Mining.
People that have left poor reviews seem to be completely inexperienced and new to how mining works. There is a risk involved. You will have downtime. It will cost you money. You need to bake that into what you're buying and how or you will get eaten up. Mining isn't point-and-click, and I've seen so many people lose their shirts when they don't have any idea what they're doing or don't dig into the numbers.
That said, this is as close to point-and-click as you can get.
The prices are decent, the web portal is great and easy to use, and the selection is great. If you need to talk to someone, their sales team is helpful and knowledgable. I work with Colby, and he's been outstanding in the year we've worked together.
Machine upgrades are easy, and they generally offer credit towards the new machine (though you lose your deposit). I just upgraded two of my machines this week, and it was absolutely seamless.
I've only had one machine that needed to be repaired, and so far, it's been a seamless (and inexpensive) process. I've had NIGHTMARES with downtime, shipping, and repair cost and time when I've had to handle the logistics myself. Compass makes this one less headache I have to deal with.
All in all, it's a great company that I'm happy to be associated with!

I invested $220,000 in mining equipment that was supposed to mine for two years. Instead, they spent 1.5 years being relocated between facilities, leaving me with only one month of actual mining as I had to wait 6 months of the company bringing them online. I had to retire them. In the end, I couldn’t even sell them, they were worthless on the marketplace. Avoid this company at all costs. They rely heavily on social media marketing to promote their services, but it's a complete scam. Most of their facilities are constantly shutting down, and this seems to happen every month.

Very efficient and honest customer service. The best experience for seamless mining.

Update 12/17/2024
Compass mining contacted me right after this review to fix the issue and offered me a replacement miner at no cost. Happy with the resolution.
I've had a thoroughly disappointing experience with Compass Mining. I originally purchased a total of 5 miners, including an Antminer S19 XP, which worked perfectly for five months before Compass unilaterally decided to relocate it. Immediately after the move, the miner stopped working, and customer service confirmed it was functional up until it was shut down for migration. Despite multiple attempts to resolve the issue, Compass offered me a mere $300 credit against a current market value of $1625 for similar used miners, and they retained my $351.60 deposit.
Their customer support lacks phone service, and email responses are slow and generally unhelpful. After my struggles to get any meaningful resolution or compensation for my losses, I would advise against doing business with this company. They have shown a serious lack of care for customer concerns and equipment handling.
If you have doubts about my experience, just Google the company and you’ll find plenty of similar stories. Proceed with caution.

Coming into my experience with compass I was very new to the whole landscape of mining. It is super enjoyable, though.
I can say with absolute confidence I am thankful for Colby Noe. Two years ago I wasn't ready to invest in BTC mining... and he let me have it for that, haha! You get the BTC price you deserve. Anywho, a year later I decided to go all in (not much for a pleb, but enough to scare me)... and Colby guided me through it all.
I haven't been a customer for too long-- but what I can say: they have your back if you do care, especially Colby.

Absolutely awful. first issue I had was a warranty about 10 months after my machines went online. They told me that the 12 month warranty starts the day the machines leaves he manufacturing facility so if they have a machine sitting there for 6 months before you buy it half of your warranty is all ready gone. We settled on me paying for half and them paying for half of the repair. After about a month I started asking about it with no one being able to tell me anything. I emailed weekly for about 4 months with the same response. Finally they gave me a loaner machine and eventually just replaced mine with that after about 9 or 10 months of mine being "out for repair". Second is horrible customer service. Takes days sometimes to respond if they do at all. Finally I asked them to be taken offline and sent to me and I would pay the fee for breaking the contract. So they sent them to their test facility, and they said another one of them was bad (working perfect when it was online) and it was going to be $600 to repair but again no one could tell me how it was working perfect and then when they tested them it was bad. Then they charged me for two months while they were offline and being tested. Really wish there was a 0 star option
Paolo is one of the best customer service representatives at Compass. Always a pleasure to work with him on all things compass mining!

This company engages in deceitful and unlawful practices.
I had my 6 S19 machines turned off for halving because they became unprofitable and I marked them for sell in their marketplace.
However they continued to bill me for mining when they were not mining.
When I contacted them, they said I still had to pay the invoices and when I refused they terminated my contract and stole my machines.
I know this sounds egregious but I am telling exactly what happened.
When I talked to Colby Noe, he was rude, obnoxious and disrespectful. He talked over me and told me to "just hang up" if I was unsatisfied. He is a complete jerk.
These people are slimy. STAY FAR AWAY.
Colby gave me an incredible support today and also we had a great conversation ofcurrent bitcoin mining opportunities ! Incredible customer support and service .

This is in response to ticket #333481. You have not responded in over a week despite being obligated to before hosting invoices are due. I have explicitly warned in the tickets that I am ready to proceed with arbitration or litigation if my matter is not peacefully resolved. I expect you to tell your team to respond quickly or I will proceed without notifying you.
Purchased a used antminer and a hosting contract in 2024. The miner lasted about 4 months and now needs a new power unit. The repair costs more than the market value of a used miner, at $299. I asked to retire the miner. However, this forfeits the deposit in the hosting contract, which is 2 months of hosting or around $380. Thus, by purchasing a used miner with a hosting contract, for a total cost of $1200, I got 4 months worth of hashing. Rip off. There is no warranty on the miner or repair.
I was assigned a dedicated Account Manager (ask for Colby) and he was able to address all of my issues and concerns. I am still a loyal customer.

fast deployment of my s21 miners. i never have bad experience at all

Horrible company, made the mistake of hosting multiple miners with them, you will never see your money back. Even if you manage to strike a deal that is profitable to you with the data center you will eventually be moved and someone else will take your place, meanwhile you will be moved to a non-profitable location. I don't know how good their privacy is but probably not very good.
Worked with them since 2020.
I've had multiple miners with them since 2020 with no issues so far.

We have been using CompassMining.io since January 2022 and our experience has been nothing short of a nightmare. CompassMining.io is a Bitcoin mining company where you can purchase your own mining equipment, and they provide hosting services for these devices. Monthly fees include electricity and hosting charges. However, our experience has been fraught with issues that have led us to write this very negative review and customer feedback.
**Terrible Customer Support**
The support provided by CompassMining is an absolute disaster. Our miners frequently go offline, and when we contact support, it often takes up to three months to get a response. Regardless of the type of support request, we face weeks of waiting before getting any feedback. We own six miners through CompassMining, and since January 2023, not a single time have all six miners been operational simultaneously. Additionally, CompassMining frequently relocates miners to different sites, resulting in downtimes of up to three months.
**Non-Existent Monitoring and Service**
The monitoring and service at CompassMining are equally abysmal, essentially non-existent. Miners suddenly go offline or operate at a reduced hashrate without any proactive measures from CompassMining. If we didn’t notify them, nothing would happen, and the miners would remain offline or continue running at reduced capacity. Upon notifying support, it takes weeks for them to acknowledge the issue and even longer to resolve it.
**Specific Incident with a Miner**
One particular incident involves one of our six miners. It initially ran for only a few weeks before failing. We reported this to CompassMining, who took months to respond and eventually sent the miner for repairs. After several months, the miner was returned, only to fail again within weeks. We reported the issue once more, but months went by before CompassMining responded, only to inform us that the warranty had expired. They offered us the option to either decommission the miner or upgrade to a new one at our expense. This is ludicrous, given that the miner was operational for just a few weeks and was offline for more than nine months due to their negligence. The warranty expired due to their lack of timely support, despite our continuous notifications.
**Disparity in Service Based on Customer Size**
For customers with a large number of miners, these issues might not seem as significant. However, for smaller customers like us with a limited number of miners, the impact is substantial.
**Prompt Billing Notifications**
Interestingly, if you are late with a monthly payment by even a single day, CompassMining’s support team suddenly becomes extremely responsive, contacting you within a day to remind you of the overdue payment and threatening penalties.
**Performance Analysis**
The performance of CompassMining has been consistently disappointing. Despite our contract specifying a certain hashrate, our actual experience has been far below expectations. There is a significant and consistent discrepancy between the expected hashrate and the actual performance, with numerous and prolonged downtimes. Our miners have frequently been offline or operating at a reduced capacity, and CompassMining’s monitoring and response to these issues have been practically non-existent. This inconsistency and lack of reliability severely undermine the value of their service.
**Final Recommendation**
Given our extremely poor experience, we cannot recommend CompassMining’s services to anyone. If you value your time, money, and sanity, look elsewhere for your Bitcoin mining needs. Avoid CompassMining.io at all costs!
They stole over 300,000$ from me this fraudulent company. Jesse Smith is the biggest con of a salesman they left me high and dry. Never saw my miners they just stole from me and told me goodluck.
Do not use Compass Mining!!
Purchased 2 miners Dec 2021 and Jan 2023. To date both miners have been offline 8 and 12 months respectively. About 1 year ago received notifications of overheating facilities. Soon after that Miner#1 went offline for hardware issues, just about 6 months after the warranty expired. Approved repair 12 months ago, still offline.
Miner #2 was pilled offline for “relocation” 8 months ago. I was provided a “free” cleaning and relocation to a cooler region since the original location was too hot?
Attempted to contact Compass numerous times. If a reply is received (many emails go unanswered) they say both units are waiting for repair/cleaning? Sent an email a week ago using my original ticket number, no reply.
Do not use this company for services. They are unresponsive, incompetent and do not have your best interests in mind.
Actively looking for another hosting company.
This is the worst organization I have ever dealt with.
When I started my bitcoin mining operation, I never imagined that a company with such a poor delivery could possibly exist. How it is possible for them to still stay in business is a mystery.
Initially I placed an order for 6 miners. It practically took them 700 days to get all 6 miners fully operational (due to constant re-location issues). After a few months of fairly stabe operations, I have now been notified that they want to re-locate 3 miners again - with 6 weeks of downtime. I will see it before I believe it.
