Excellent customer experience!

Throughout our purchase at Citu, Danielle was fantastic at keeping us informed of any updates, and was very patient even when we expressed frustration with delays (that were unavoidable and completely outside her control!).
She was always personable, friendly and understanding and went out of her way to make sure we were kept up to date.
Thank you for everything!!

Citu, a great team behind the brand

Citu kindly offered to host the bi-annual LRQA Build Offsite Property Assurance Scheme (BOPAS) forum at their Head office based in Leeds (LS10). The Marketing team led by Lucy Smith with the assistance of Abbie Wardle did a sterling job in preparing the spacious and airy open plan timber structure above their main office space. The team was like a well-tuned Swiss watch with help with loading the presentations to a dedicated laptop, laying out the chairs for circa 100 people and arranging lunch. The whole Citu team was very accommodating and kept checking in throughout the day with regard to additional help and timing the whole event. I do not normally endorse venues, however if someone is looking for a small to medium size venue to host particular events / presentations the site at Citu might be just the ticket for you.

Student visit to Citu, Kelham Island

I just want to say thanks to Sarah and colleagues at Citu for giving us (a group of masters Urban Planning students from Bristol) a chance to hear about your work in Kelham Island, and to see the development as it is progressing. We all found it an excellent experience, and hope to come back in the next few years!

Consistently impressive

Sarah has proven to be very approachable and informative. She has maintained regular contact with us and shown infinite patience with our questions - often seeking out answers for us when they haven't been immediately to hand. Although we haven't yet bought a Citu property, we anticipate doing so in a couple of years time. Sarah has contributed significantly to that decision.

The whole buying experience from start to finish has been first class. Both Danielle & Megan kept us fully informed of progress, made themselves available often at their own inconvenience and provided excellent service with their focus on the customer.

Thank you

Not just any development!

Recently viewed some of the properties at Climate Innovation District (courtesy of Danielle) and the homes and the service I received we’re second to none! It’s a really special community they are building down there - can’t wait to be a part of it! Thanks again Danielle for hospitality! 5/5!

I adore my apartment in Kelham Central

I adore my apartment in Kelham Central, it offers something so different to your average new build in terms of design, and sustainable living is very important to me. Buying a Citu home was a tough choice for me as I also work for the developer, however it’s a choice I’m glad I made. I am only just starting to experience living in it during the colder months, but I haven’t had to put my heating on as yet. Its also been surprisingly cool during the heat we have had this summer. Citu took a little longer than the advertised 28 days to rectify the defects I had in my home however, these were few and all minor things such as paint scuffs and a few scratches. There was an electrical problem in my apartment in the first few weeks that affected my neighbours also, Citu reacted to this as soon as possible keeping us updated with progress until it was resolved. It’s been 6 months now and I’m discovering more hidden gems around Kelham Island and I love seeing Kelham Central progress, especially the shared green spaces

Citu Leeds is an Idyllic place

The Citu development is in the most incredible location imaginable… the tranquillity of the river, coupled with the proximity to the vibrant and wonderful Leeds with bars, restaurants and culture. Also, so close to the beautiful Moors. It is an absolute idyll!!! Love the house design and the innovation behind it. It is just great! On the flip side, as far as how spotty the responses have been from Citu to snags etc., I have also experienced frustrations. The team are delightful, but introspection is needed on how to bolster the after sales care.

Worth it!

Sarah Roberts was incredibly helpful in showing us around all the properties of interest to me. She was clear and patient with answering all our questions. An attractive feature of the homes is that eco-friendliness is considered.

Buy… but I recommend to buy second-hand

I couldn't recommend living in the Climate Innovation District enough. You’ll never meet nicer neighbours; after all, we bought into the same vision and we’re making it happen, living the ethos constantly. I’m proud to be a part of it, and it is genuinely a privilege.

I’d been in the CITU bubble since I moved to the Greenhouse 6 years ago. I stuck with them because I believed in them, and I considered them to be friends. I followed them blindly into buying a house, sold by the glossy mockups and promotional materials, and feeling like I was being given a rare and unique opportunity. The second I moved in, the bubble burst.

Delays and snags are inevitable, but this is something else entirely.

It's like a lottery. The reviews here are basically 1* or 5* for a reason. It’s good to see what a winning ticket looks like, but I wish I had been prepared for a losing ticket.

I’ve had quotes to fix the outstanding issues on my house and it’s going to cost me over £25k to get it to the standard that was sold to me. I’ve already spent thousands.

I spent my first few days cutting glue off of the windows, walls and floors, scratching off the paint blobs and scrubbing a glue footprint off the floor in the living room. I broke down into tears day 1 wondering what I had just bought. Nearly half a million pounds handed over to a company who handed over… this? It’s disgusting.

CITU assured me that they would be taking up and replacing my entire living room floor, as it was an absolute mess. It’s off at an angle, bends at one end, and somehow the walls aren’t 90º from the floor, they’re slightly sloped.

I was told to not move furniture into my living space until this was resolved. They did nothing on it for 18 months. When they finally ‘resolved’ this ‘snag’, they just replaced a few planks without acclimatising the bamboo to the temperature or humidity of the room. I was told by a contractor that this was going to need pulling up again once the seasons change. They didn't touch the alignment, the bending, the wonkiness, or the glue-stained / chipped wood.

My top step fell off while I was walking down the stairs. I caught myself on the bannister thankfully. I reported it immediately, but they took 10 months to come round… and they just glued it back on. I avoid that step now.

My sink fell out of the kitchen unit, somehow. They glued it back in and told me not to put so much in the sink. It was just an empty saucepan in there by the way. I now avoid using it and never run the water for too long.

My rooftop decking snapped while I was walking across it. Guess they’re out of glue for that though as they haven’t replied to my emails.

My smoke alarm went off because it was full of water. The cause of the leak was that I had dried some clothes over the bath, and apparently the standing water drained into the electronics. I personally feel that this is a suboptimal drainage location, but hey. Gotta pick your battles.

My cladding is a mess. It’s loose, uneven, each wall of the house is like its own special art project, completely oblivious to where the edges meet on the other sides. It’s got a load of clips in it that they were meant to take out when they finished but they didn’t bother. The panels aren’t flush with the windows. The MVHR ingest vent is hanging off. Something that looks like one of those snakey swimming pool floats keeps falling out of the back door frame. I can’t cut it off because it’s part of the exterior, and they won't fix it because it's aesthetic.

We had to make several noise complaints after being woken at 2-7am with concrete polishing in the flats. In response Citu wrote us all a letter saying they aren't talking to us any more for “reporting us needlessly to various authority bodies” and “risking future sales of homes at the district”. Onto the next phase for them I guess.

I could go on, but frankly I need to stay sane. CITU have perfected selling and moving onto the next customer. Once they accepted that they’d messed up my house, they gave up on me. I’m not going to become an advocate for them, so they might as well invest in someone else.

The one time I got close to selling my house, I realised I couldn’t because of the number of issues. The best thing I can do now is spend a ton of money and make it what it should have been in the first place.

I won’t deny that some people are still super happy with the developer, and many more are indifferent. I’m seeing a therapist though. Everyone’s experience is different. The financial and mental toll for me has been so bad that I regret the biggest purchase of my life. But I only regret that I gave the money to CITU and that this keeps happening to new residents.

My advice would be to look out for a second-hand property here and snap it up. This is the dream neighbourhood, and one day CITU will leave and move onto another project… for me that’ll be a relief, and cause for celebration

1 month at Citu update

We've now lived at Citu for a month ; I felt that this is a good time to send an update. This is a lovely place to live for all of us and a truly great home. For a slice of life, here's what me, my daughter and my son are up to today. I've been sitting outside at Secret Garden with my coffee looking at the river. My daughter (16) has been sat outside having breakfast on her back deck with her friend. We're about to walk by the river, get some pastry goodies from the local mini supermarket and walk to Leeds Dock, where the girls will take the river taxi to the station for her friend's half hour ride to Skipton and I'll go over the footbridge to John Lewis and beyond. Yesterday the girls walked to town to see a film and picniced on the River Aire Island on the way home. My son (18) took a friend to The Royal Armouries, whilst I met my friend and her two year old for a ride on his bike around Leeds Dock and then picnic at our Citu riverside garden. This evening me and my son are off climbing at the indoor wall just up the road. My son and daughter have both admitted that there's no excuse to hang around indoors any more now we're here, there's too much to do!
To sign off, I'm delighted and so impressed that in the baking hot weather, I came home to a beautifully cool home, what a treat, without even the need to run a fan or anything using power.
We all feel very lucky to be here. We are so well looked after by the team. The care all the way before and after the move has been perfect. The communication is spot on. I feel very privileged to live in such a wonderful place.

Positive experience

My experience with Citu has been really positive throughout the whole process. Even when my solicitors were being difficult, Citu staff were incredibly helpful getting any issues sorted and trying to get me moved in as quickly and pain free as possible. Was hesitant about buying a new build but honestly Citu has changed my opinion on it. Would recommend.

Very nice :)

I’ve recently moved into the “Town House” at landing place in the citu residance. So far my experiance has been great, very different from where i had currently moved from wich was in the middle of nowhere. Citu offers a wonderfull and peacefull enviroment and comunity with many friendly, welcoming faces :).

As well as that, the geniral area feels so outve town as you are surrounded by lots of wildlife with a beatiful river to overlook; however, the area has such easy acsess to central leeds as well as “Leeds Dock” with lots of lovely resturants as well as a local grocary store only a few minuites away! Futher more, Citu area has a very easy acsess to many other towns and city’s around the area with “Leeds train station” being unbelievably close. Wich for people going to work or school such as myself who will be soon attending “York college” this upcoming september it is extreemly usefull that it is such a quick walk.

Personally, i believe that Citu is a wonderfull place to live and with new and upcoming Citu builds such as new houses, shops and eventually there very own primary school in some years to come, it will grow to be a bussiling and even more welcoming comunity!

scared to say bad things

I first must apologise for not putting my full name. I worry that I will have worse service from citu staff if my name is here ---CONTENT REMOVED BY REQUEST OF CITU---

Some neighbours say that if you say anything bad you are not one of us any more ---CONTENT REMOVED BY REQUEST OF CITU--- I am trapped and with nothing to do about this!

I want badly to love my house, the house I spend all my money on. They do not speak to us once we buy except for some friends who leave a good review, the house leaks, everything breaks, nobody supports and and I have no money now and a house I cannot sell.

I want to protect you from buying from this company! climate houses are good but not when citu abuse, please speak to customers, please speak to REAL PEOPLE who have problems do not read adverts and do not speak with only sales. More would speak but do not want punishments for being honest. Please be safe with money and do not make bad choices. The bad reviews are true, please read. Nothing is better now, they write good reviews on same day to help selling houses!

;; citu requested that I change part of this review

great place, great community

We were among the first people who bought here, and it’s been great to deal with a small developer who’s done their best to adapt to all the challenges of covid and beyond. Citu rectified any issues we had with our house quickly, and since then have kept us in the loop with everything they’re doing as well as ask for our input as a community on what works for us.

The community itself is a major draw, especially raising a new family. We have had community street parties, bbqs on the decking and beer clubs. Now that piglove brewery and various street food vans have had pop up residences across the river, sunshine drinks and pizzas have become the new weekend norm.
