The train was on time. The ride was smooth. Booking and boarding processes were quick and efficient.

In general, the service is good, the prices fair and the staff very quick to get back. However, I did not find they were very proactive in suggesting alternatives or different ways to ensure we could get tickets at this very busy time of year. Frequently they could not get tickets or we ended up in different cabins and for me (a 75-year old) on an upper bunk!

China Highlights were great in advising and booking our high speed train tickets from Beijing to Shanghai. Fair priced and arrived as promised with very clear instructions for use. The tickets were ‘loaded’ to our passports and we found using them very easy at Beijing nan station. I would highly recommend.

What sets China Highlights apart from other similar services is their responsiveness and clear communication. When I had some questions about our reservation just a few hours before our trip from Shanghai to Beijing, the agent assigned to me promptly responded with all the information I needed. She also gave me her WeChat QR code so that I could contact her quickly from the station in the event of a problem. This is a lifeline that China Highlights' competitors do not provide. The outbound and return trips went smoothly and all of the information I had been given was accurate. The only improvement I can think of would be for China Highlights to provide (along with the trip itinerary) an image or card to print out that says something like "你可以给我纸质票吗?" plus instructions to show it at the service counter (服务中心）while handing one's passport to the clerk. That way, people who don't speak Chinese can easily get paper printouts of their tickets without even having to say one word. Since your ticket is tied to your passport, paper tickets are not strictly necessary, but it is useful and reassuring to have printed proof of one's train, car, and seat number (in a more official format than just an itinerary from a third-party reseller) in the event of any problems. This service is a lifesaver for foreigners or anyone who wants to reserve train tickets in China during busy travel periods and doesn't want to have to hover over their keyboard or phone (along with millions of other users at the same time) ready to pounce on seats the instant they become available 15 days before one's travel date. I was happy to outsource this task to agents far more fluent in Chinese than I am, and more knowledgeable about the ins and outs of mainland China's complex rail network. The photos and descriptions of the various train types on China Highlights' website were also more informative than on other sites. It's no mystery why this company has such positive reviews online.
