Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 31 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the customer service, finding it unhelpful, with agents who lack knowledge and sometimes speak poor English. Customers also frequently report issues with payments, including unexpected interest charges, delayed application of payments, and difficulties with transfers. The pricing structure, including annual fees and high interest rates without rewards, was a major point of contention. Some people also felt that the company's service was outdated, particularly regarding the lack of mobile payment options. A few other people also felt that their accounts were closed due to inactivity, even when they intended to pay off their balance. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY VERY POOR…

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE.I had this credit card for 22 years. I was able to log into online banking one day, then next day it stated it could not find me. After dealing with their reps for 2 weeks still could not access online banking. The rep made me feel like I did not know how to spell my last name, my date of birth, phone number and postal code. Had to repeat myself 5 times to cancel the card, which I told her that I was cutting it up as we speak, she still insisted that I try and enter the information again. If I cannot access my information I definitely do not want a credit card which I cannot access my account online to view transactions. I guess sending customer service out of the country is cheaper for Capital One but like they say," YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR". CHEAPER WAGES POORER CUSTOMER SERVICE. BRING YOUR CUSTOMER SERVICE BACK TO CANADA WE HAVE ALOT OF PEOPLE HERE OUT OF WORK.

Terrible, terrible Card

I have had credit cards for over 50 years and have an excellent credit rating. I have a $10,000 limit on another MasterCard and have never had a problem. Until the Capital One card. Terrible policies, terrible customer service.
The full balance of the card is paid off automatically every month and yet they deemed necessary to charge us a $29.00 fee for being over limit. No idea how much over the limit we were, or even why the transaction would have been approved if that was the case. But apparently we were over on the 29th of the month and our payment for the full balance is processed on the 30th.
In speaking with "Customer Service", I guess we're supposed to check our balance online every day before using the card. What a joke.
Just cancelled the card. NEVER again would I get ANY service from Capital One.
p.s. just found out Costco is terminating their relationship with Capital One the end of 2021. The Bay already did. Hmmm, wonder why?

CONSUMER BEWARE!

NEVER, NEVER, NEVER TAKE A CASH ADVANCE! Unless you pay off the FULL BALANCE and NOT use the card for minimum 2 months after paying it FULLY OFF! The interest will continue for thr duration of your term, or as long as you use their card! I took a cash advance in February 2019 and am still paying 7+ dollars a month on that $500 and I've NEVER missed a payment and usually place $400 a month for payment when minimum payments are usually $120.
BE WARNED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apparently this is the superfine print portion of your agreement!

Gross service

Terrible service, froze my account without notification. After being with them for over a decade the security team demanded I submit Government ID over an annual subscription to Wyze cameras, they deemed it a 'high risk' transaction?????????

Is there a way to rank this credit card…

Is there a way to rank this credit card MINUS 5 ?
I have the same experience where I paid off the Capital One credit card and 2 months later I received a notice from them saying I owed them money still. There is no statement attached. My online account is not accessible either. If I still had outstanding balance why they closed my account where I can see the outstanding items???
Now I received 2 calls from collection agency everyday. I called back at beginning and was put on hold forever. I contacted the Capital One through online chat only to be told they are not responsible for that part. The only way is to call.
I called both phone numbers on their mail notice and what they called me from. No luck of being put through. I blocked their phone number now and decide to spend my time on spreading my experiences with them and report them on every public channels I have.

Don't Even Consider Capital One

I had a Mastercard with them for a while. I then got another Mastercard through my credit union with better interest and whatnot, it was just a better card all around. I paid off the Capital One completely and then cancelled it. I even cut up the card and threw it away. About two months later, I start getting phone calls from Capital One asking me to pay for the purchases I made with my card. I said, no, I paid it off and cancelled it. They said no, I still had an account and made purchases. I told them that was impossible and to please send me a statement showing me what I had purchased. I asked it to be emailed to me and they told me that they only send by mail. I said then please send it by mail. Nothing ever came. I called them to make sure they had the right address and everything and they did. I kept getting calls asking for payment. I kept asking for statements, which they said they would send. Again, never received. This has been going on for two years now. They finally sent my account to a collection agency to get the payment. I talked to the collection agency and asked them for the statement. They said I had to ask Capital One. I called Capital One a few times because they just kept transferring me to the collection agency. I'd say I need a statement, they'd say sure, put me on hold, and then it would be the collection agency that answered the phone. It's absolutely insane and I have no idea how they get away with this.

Don't use this horrible company

Don't use this horrible company. No rewards at all for secured. They market it as credit rebuilding. That's laughable. They do nothing to help. Just another heartless company with there hand in my pocket. No email address. Live chat barely ever works. They hit me with interest. Unscheduled. It took my balance .09 cents over limit. They charge me fee for it. And interest on that. Criminals. Don't do it. It will hurt your credit and give 0 back in return. No customer service. Shouldn't even be in business. Predators I DO NOT recommend

"WHEN speaking with our Customer…

"WHEN speaking with our Customer Service team and they are unable to resolve your inquiry or concern to your satisfaction, you can ask to speak to an Account Supervisor." this is all BS they don't care if they loose your business. after more than a decade of superior credit payment (never missed and always paid ahead of time)with them they
*REMOVED my my agreed upon "anniversary credit of 10,000 points
*REMOVED/REDUCED my rewards on purchases
*RETAINED their loan shark interest rates.
AND then tried to justify my annual membership FEE as being done to provide me with great service. Are they really serious or just stupid !!!
Then expected me to stay with them because ...WHY??

Stay well away from this predatory company. I had to report them for mishandling my account, I was only with them two years too. They did numerous things wrong. They are not a safe company at all and you are better off not having a credit card then all the trouble they will bring you. I wont allow my wife or kids to get a card with them now.

Great way to improve your credit

I got Capital One card to improve my credit. They gave me a much higher limit than I originally expected. When my credit improved I got another credit card but I also got a new cap1 cashback card to show my loyalty. I now have 4 credit cards, 3 lines of credit, an RRSP line of credit, and a mortgage all thanks to imptoving my credit with cap1. I'm sorry that most of you have had bad a with them. The key is put your Netflix on it and nothing else and have it autopsy from your bank account. Make sure any collections are paid in full and watch your credit improve. Cap1 provides you free TransUnion and you can get your Equifax from borrowell.ca

AVOID only time they do anything is if you report to BBB

AVOID DO NOT GET IN WITH THIS COMPANY IT WILL F YOU!!
I had a card with capital one after having to report them to BBB to actually receive the card. Everything was great until I fell into some hard ship due to Covid and I couldn’t pay the whole balance as I originally planned on doing I went into their Covid program once that ended I did my best and paid 100$ off then Covid lockdown again and I once again was left with no money! Well the whole time I was trying to get something together I spoke with the collection reps from capital one they promised my account remained open and if I paid in full instead of payments it would be open and usable again after payment! Well that was obviously a lie cause here I am writing this after reporting them for the second time to BBB because they closed my account hours after receiving payment!!! Even though they even sent a letter dated the same week about how my account would be changing in April 2021 regarding how interest was placed on the card.

I give 2 stars only because when my own…

I give 2 stars only because when my own bank wouldn't give me a CC or even an overdraft, Capital One helped me. It ultimately led to getting the credit I needed to get bigger and better cards and financing for my vehicle. But the company is pure rotten garbage. They never increased my limit in 2 years. I got an auto raise from my 2nd card from 500 to 2000 after 3 months. 3 months later it was 4000. The Capital One call centre is a lot like an Indian scam centre. They read from scripts in broken English and have no interest in helping you. I made an accidental payment to the card once and they refused to return it. They tried to do an end run around me with my bank as if I was a child and they wanted to talk to the grown ups 1st. My advice is if you're desperate to get a Capital One card just get the one where you pay a yearly fee and then you won't have to put the money down in advance. Buy a stick of gum or a coffee every month and pay the whole bill immediately when you get your statement. It will be useless at 1st but eventually your credit score will go up and you can cut your Capital One to shreds and move on to a worthwhile credit card. Good luck.

I have been with Capital One for almost three years now. I find them to be very good. They recognize and reward good customer spending/repayment habits. Their customer service I find is also very good. They have treated me very well and I will continue to be a loyal customer. So sad to read about all the negative experiences with this company.

Their systems are extremely poor

Their systems are extremely poor. They are not able to process my app for a Costco Credit Card. I have spent months trying to get a reason. They CSRs just try to bounce me all over. Keep trying to tell me it’s a Costco problem. Think about that silly answer. They also lie. Worst experience ever.

Absolutely horrendous customer service. I dread calling them, I put it off but then I have to do it and sure enough, the person that picks up the phone is completely incompetent.

I have many credit cards with various banks and I’ve never seen anything like this, it’s amazingly bad.

Capital One has very bad customer service and the online website banking is very poor developed with a lots of bugs. The 1% cash back is a scam, they provide 0.5% cash back. I do not recommend this credit card from Capital One.
