Buttle plc is an independent Timber and Builders’ Merchant with branches in St Albans and Leighton Buzzard. Our roots are in timber (we’ve been selling it since 1919) but today we also sell building materials. We're also a plumbers merchant with specialised teams in most of our branches. Our Head Office is in St Albans, we employ around 45 people and our sales turnover is approaching £8m. We are Investors in People, and several of our employees have worked with us for over 20 years. Our customers include national house builders, local developers, general contractors, public sector organisations and home improvers - in fact, all users of building materials, however large or small. We are long-standing members of the Builders’ Merchants’ Federation and we comply with the BMF Merchant Member Charter. As members of the respected NMBS and H&B buying groups, we are able to purchase materials from the UK’s leading manufacturers at competitive prices. We are skilled at sourcing special items for our customers and always aim to provide the right materials at the right time at the right price. We have a fleet of 10 crane-offloading vehicles, including the latest DAF trucks with remote-controlled cranes. Our normal delivery area includes London, Middlesex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Essex, but we can also arrange deliveries direct from the manufacturer to sites throughout the UK.

Excellence from Buttles staff
I went to Buttles in Leighton Buzzard for two 8 foot fence posts. The service at the sales desk was polite, quick and done in no time.
I paid for the posts and was told to take
my invoice out to the yard and approach any member of staff in their ‘high viz’ vests.
I went out and a young man driving a forklift saw me and immediately asked what I needed. I showed him the invoice and he went off and got the said posts on his forklift and returned them to my car.
He the hopped off and helped me slide them in.
I was in and out with my goods in less than ten minutes and I could not have received better service than I got from those two members of staff.
Excellent service, excellent staff, excellent experience.

Brilliant all round service
Brilliant all round service. Needed a last minute change to my order which proved to be no problem and was made effortlessly over the phone.
Barry at St Albans was so polite and helpful. He could not be more helpful. This was my first time of using Buttles and they will be top of my list for all future building materials!

Unable to leave delivery at the top of the drive due to steepness of the drive so Jason asked if I had a wheelbarrow so he could transfer the delivery to where I wanted it.

Incredible customer service .first class,
Had materials delivered , on day confirmed good,, materials arrived with about 15 concrete blocks broken .
Company contacted me when they heard about blocks they offered me a refund for the damaged materials on transit, which they did very soon.
i have experienced incredible regard for customer sales from Buttles . They are brilliant

Online ordering a replacement fence panel easy enough but no delivery date when payment was taken. Then received a call to advise it wouldn’t be for a week, but was never delivered and had to call to see where it was. Adviser seemed surprised I was calling - said they’d only just been dropped off at the yard so likely be delivered the next day. Seemed to assume that as a female I had all the time in the world to sit around waiting for it and didn’t work! Patronising.
