Pray for receiving everything from Bolia, or expect a long waiting time

We bought three items from Bolia. One of the items (a bed-side table) had one part missing, without that part, you cannot hang the bed-side table to the wall. We informed Bolia the following day of opening the box and seeing it. We were told that they have ordered the part and it will be sent soon. It has been almost two months since we got their email, but the part has not arrived yet. We contacted Customer Care again recently, after waiting 5 days for an answer, they told us that if we could send a picture of the back of the bed-side table. I guess they will order it now and send it, but nobody knows when we'll receive it, if we do...

Leaves floorlamp

I recently purchased a leaves floor lamp designed by Kateryna Sokolova online, and it arrived yesterday. While the piece is beautiful I was very disappointed to learn that once the bulb runs out it cannot be replaced and the lamp will essentially have to be thrown away?

I find this ridiculous, and not in line with Bolia's marketing which promises products that last. It is furthermore in this age incredibly wasteful which is unconscionable when green sustainable design is more important than ever. I hope this will be taken into consideration and a solution found to find a replaceable bulb for lamps of this model, or a new design undertaken to allow for a greener solution. It should also be made clear online that this is the case for the model so customers are aware before purchasing the items.

Having to return an item is once again a waste of resources and time, if the customer only learns this about the product when it arrives.

Good service for giving advice and…

Good service for giving advice and selling the products but not good after-sales service. Once we received our sofa, as recommended by Bolia seller, we bought their spray to protect the sofa and sprayed it. One day later, little black dots appeared so we asked the one who sold us the sofa if she had already had the same situation (with other customers) and if someone could come and advise us. We also sent pictures. But no one answered, we are still waiting for an answer.

Poor customer service (after purchase)

The service (in the store) when I bought the sofa was excellent. However, when the sofa was delivered, the delivery guys could not help turn the sofa around (which I couldn’t do because of a recent surgery). Moreover, I’ve emailed back and forth with their customer service about an issue with the support leg - and I get a different absurd response from a different person every time. Very time consuming. Weirdly enough, I get much better service at Ikea and other cheap stores. Not worth the price. Edit: Raised from 1 to 2 after they made some more effort after this. I will not use Bolia again, as their furniture is overpriced compared to the customer service, but I have experienced worse.

Will not be buying from Bolia again.

Over the years we've purchased quite a few pieces from Bolia. A sleeping couch, a sideboard, rug, tv-bench, tables, lamps. Unfortunately price of the products do not match the quality. The sleeping couch had to be changed, the rug was very hard and shed a ton of fabric, the sideboard doors are wonky and missing screws. The in-store service experience and customer service is not good. We will not be buying anything else from Bolia.

On 19.05.2021

On 19.05.2021, I have picked-up the coffee table purchased at Bolia in Kristiansand-Norway and when the package was opened at home, I have discovered that the table top have a huge crack. For info I have checked the package at the Bolia pick-up location and I did not find any apparently damages.

I have filled out two claims (000000302728 and 000000303002) but no feedback received from Bolia so far.

I would like to receive a new table as a replacement, or my money back!

Very helpful customer service

Very helpful customer service (I needed to make some changes to the order) and very fast delivery for the coffee table that I ordered (not the case for all items, but this one was delivered in one week!).

Bolia was very easy to deal with in the…

Bolia was very easy to deal with in the store. However, there were some issues with the delivery of my sofa. First the team refused to unpack the piece and set it up (despite the fact that we were apparently outside of the COVID window when it was unsafe to do so). They obliged when I insisted, but as a single woman who lives alone, trying to negotiate with three men at 21.00 at night in my home is not really appropriate. Then they put the piece together in such a way that two of the pieces are misaligned. Additionally, there was a pressure mark or dent in one of the cushions that remains to this day. I have filed a complaint with customer service but have not heard back almost 3 weeks later.

Please read this

Bolia makes good furniture. We have had one of their sofas for 10 years and we love it.
So why this 1-star rating?

Well, after about five years the springs that support what you sit on started coming loose, one at a time, randomly. When one goes, then the neighboring springs sees more load than they were designed for and it gets progressively worse. After a few years you cannot sit in the sofa because you are on the floor.

No big deal, it's a good sofa and the culprit was a cheap weak plastic bracket which makes the springs stay attached under tension. These brackets are prone to splitting in half due to a very weak point in their design. I made new brackets with an expensive CNC machine at my work and installed them myself.

Which brings me to the point to why I have ended up seriously disliking Bolia. When customer service were contacted with my problem and also permanent fix (simple screw-on bracket, but 10 x stronger) for this problem, my complaint was brushed off in a very professional, polite and efficient manner.

As a passionate engineer of 15 years who invents and builds things on a daily basis, this annoyed the hell out of me. We make tools for the oil industry. When we sometimes make mistakes, we bend over backwards to correct them, at any cost, because our reputation and pride in what we do, is everything.

Bolia probably started off as us, but somewhere along the way they lost their moral compass as they grew, and suddenly there were no carpenters represented in their board room meetings anymore. They are driven by aspirations of further growth at a maximized profit. Essentially, they have become greedy.

They deleted my post in Facebook as several others commented with similar experiences as myself. Which brought me here.

Bolia has become a faceless machine that will not admit that their sofas has (or at least has had) a serious design flaw. Because in their corporate mind, such an admission of guilt would represent a potential great cost to fix all these sofas.

What would I do in their place? I would be grateful towards customers who are passionate about their products, I would adopt the proposed fix and I would send a Bolia guy with a screwdriver and a suitcase of new replacement brackets to whoever reported in trouble. It would be cheap and that is how you build a solid reputation and gain a loyal customer base.

As so many other companies, they are now so focused on quarterly reports that they are sawing off the very branch they are sitting on. Fire your PR responsible and hire one off the shop floor.

Sadly, as a consumer there is little one can do other than rant. Presumably one could motion for filing for class action, since this flaw likely affects thousands of sofas. As an engineer I can guarantee that any sofa that has been used with those brackets installed will fail. Period. Bolia would naturally argue that the sofa(s) outlived the 5-year warranty, but as Bolia state on their website "But what matters most, is creating beautiful designs that last. Not just for years, but for generations."

That's all from me folks. Stay true to what you do here in life and you will have a rich life, not necessarily measured by the thickness of your wallet. Integrity is everything.

If there are any measures you would like for us to take, regarding your sofa, please send us a message , and we can talk about it, and find a better solution. We understood you managed to fix the springs yourself, which was great news! But if we misunderstood, - let's look at it again.

Even though you haven't felt it in this case with your inquiry, we're definitely here to help. The opinions of all you wonderful customers, mean the world to us. Your case has been a bit difficult, since it's an older sofa, I guess, and of course, you shouldn't have springs breaking - also not after 5 years. But we grow, learn and develop ourselves and our designs every day, which also means the quality of our designs become even better, and more sustainable with time.
