Don't look anywhere else!
An utterly brilliant set up from the off. All the gear is supplied. That means new bikes and new good gear. The training was second to none, the instructors are brilliant just listen to them and you'll be fine. Good friendly yet educational atmosphere through out the week. All the tests booked well in advance so you can just get on with them! No waiting around. Brilliant brilliant course and school. DAS-7 Royston
The amazing BMW rider training Exeter
The amazing BMW rider training based in Exeter - amazing instructors, a massive thank you to the owner Chris and my two incredible instructers Chris and Dave. You are the most wonderful and skilled instructers
I went from never having ridden a motorbike, to passing my CBT on a 300cc BMW bike, then passing my Mod1 and Mod2 on the 800cc BMW GS. The bikes are all new, immaculate and so capable. There is a real private road circuit with hills, roundabouts, traffic lights, a proper safe mini village road network - before you get out onto the real roads - my instructors were amazing, just amazing. I did the 7 day unlimited direct access course, not the cheapest, but you really get what you pay for, all bikes, kit (loan of £800 bmw jackets, £700 trousers, boots, helmets all included and top quality) - I would recommend them to anyone. They also have their own mod 1 test site, and they also give you an access to the actual dvlsa test Mod 1 site.
#1 Bike Training
Would highly recommend anyone wanting to get their bike MOD1 & MOD2 goes to BMW Training @ Exeter.
Great instructors with a wealth of knowledge, who make the whole journey enjoyable.

Just completed my week DAS course at Royston- passed Mod 1 and 2 - brilliant instruction and great advice over the week- big shout out to Toby, my instructor- really appreciate the guidance throughout. Would not hesitate to recommend this training.
Super professional
Super professional. I hadn't ever riden a bike and passed both tests after 5 days training.
Outstanding tuition with excellent equipment
I completed my DAS course with BMW Rider Training in December 2024 and couldn't be more pleased with the results. I took a 7-day course in Exeter and passed my Mod 1 and Mod 2 after this course. The instructors I had were both former Royal Marines no less. It is clear that they have a lot of experience in being motorcycling instructors and they were exceptionally professional and competent. The facilities in Exeter were great, with the bikes I learnt to ride on being basically new BMWs. I would thoroughly recommend learning to ride here.
Exceptionally skilled instruction from…
Exceptionally skilled instruction from Julie and David. My pre course form clearly had been looked at and my teaching tailored to my needs. Really impressed by learner centred approach. Passed DAS first time. I feel I was taught to be a safe rider not just to pass tests.
Well drilled calm advice on excellent bikes.
Excellent bikes, well drilled process of assessment and calm advice when you need it. Gradually building your confidence and competence. Nice friendly people make for a pleasant enjoyable day that will bring you leaps forward feeling you have made real progress and giving you a clear understanding of what areas you need to focus on going forward.
Highly recommend the 6 day course
Highly recommend the 6 day course.
I did it at Royston. Ian and his team are very good at putting you at ease and building up your skills and confidence.
The facility and bikes are excellent and they really prepare you well for the mod 1 and 2.
More importantly than getting you through the tests, the on road training really drills into you safe and confident riding skills.
As the course progressed the nerves were gone and I really enjoyed the rides and the mod 1 and 2 tests were a breeze.
My instructor was Toby and he was fantastic.
Excellent training
The instructors were very patient and always gave you positive feedback, no matter what you had done.
Adapted the day to your needs and abilities.
Fantastic
From start to finish I couldn't have wished for a better introduction into the world of motorcycling. Having driven down from the Lake district to do a 6 day course, from day 1 everything was just as you would expect. The facilities were outstanding, the bikes the kit were second to none. I was lucky to have an amazing partner in crime training with me at the same time, but the biggest thank you and appreciation has to go to Chris K what an instructor and just down right amazing human being. I suffer with my anxiety not on the road but in the Mod1 environment and he was a true gent, the pace was set by us and even during the hard times (we all have em) he was there as was Georgie (my fellow trainee) to get me through.
Amazing experience and what a way to start my motorcycling journey!!! If you have any doubt about doing your DAS course in Exeter don't. Grab hold and go for it becuase it couldn't have been better.
Amazing Experience
The best facilities, instructors and bikes...
Even if you've had bad experiences or are a little nervous of bikes you'll leave feeling like Evil Knievel.
For those with confidence and a little experience... you'll leave after a week with your A license, no problem.
My week was spent with 3 other guys. We split into 2 pairs of 2 and all 4 of us passed first time.
The instructors are very high quality and all of them clearly LOVE teaching riders how to be safe, legal and sensible on the road and improving their technical ability. Also, they're all lovely people and great fun!
I couldn't recommend it enough.
BMW Rider Training
Ian Biederman from BMW Rider Training is hands down the best instructor I’ve ever had. From the very first session, he exceeded every expectation I had. His deep knowledge of riding techniques, combined with his natural ability to teach, makes him an exceptional instructor. Ian has an incredible way of breaking down complex manoeuvres into clear, easy-to-follow steps, ensuring I not only understood but mastered them.
What truly sets Ian apart is his patience, enthusiasm, and genuine passion for riding. He created a positive and engaging learning environment that reignited my love for riding. His knack for spotting areas for improvement and offering precise feedback helped me gain confidence on the bike.
If you’re serious about becoming a better rider, Ian is the person you want guiding you. I can’t recommend him highly enough—he’s a game-changer!
7 day Direct Access - Royston
The team at Royston took me from absolute beginner through to passing
Mod 2. From start to finish every interaction was excellent. Efficient communication and Admin was followed by excellent training. Equipment was great - the bikes brand new and the protective gear clean and comfortable. Instructors Dave, Bob and Brian each contributed to my ultimate success, sharing their experience in a way that inspired just the right amount of confidence. Perhaps not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. I recommend without hesitation.
Highly Enjoyable Motorcycle Learner Experience
I did the seven day Rookie-to-Rider DAS with Ian’s team at Royston. I was made to feel very welcome as soon as I stepped into the riding school on the first day. The riding gear and the bikes were all first class.
I had several instructors over the course: Dave, Bob and Brian. All were calm, encouraging and made the experience of learning to ride a motorcycle fun. Feedback while riding was always given in a positive critical manner.
The intent of all the instructors at the school is to make riding safe and fun rather than focusing on passing the test. This has the beneficial effect of increasing your confidence so Mod 1 and Mod 2 are a lot less daunting.
I would highly recommend Ian and his team at the BMW Rider Training School at Royston if you want to learn to ride a motorcycle.
Excellent experience
Excellent experience. Did a 1-day refresher training (hadn't been riding a motorcycle for more than 15 years). The step-by-step introduction was just brilliant, we felt well prepared when we took to the roads. Brian the instructor was patient, focused, and systematic. Very positive atmosphere, and a lot of fun on our rides. Can't recommend it enough!
Fantastic 7 day intensive direct access training
I was completely new to motorcycling and decided I wanted to do a direct access course in the shortest possible time. BMW Rider Training offered a 7 day intensive course. At first glance it didn't look cheap but having attended the course and witnessed the quality of facilities, bikes, equipment and above all tuition, it is fantastic value for money. Toby helped me gain the confidence I needed and I credit him with getting me through the Mod 1 and Mod 2 tests first time. Also a shout out for Bob who helped me achieve my CBT. All the team are really friendly, professional, patient and understanding which helped put me at ease. Do not hesitate to book!
Brilliant Experience.
The whole 7 days, then followed with an additional day as failed the Mod 2 first time round were really enjoyable, really nice people to deal with and top quality equipment to use. Attaining full licence at nearly retirement age is pretty special.
Iain Corser. BMW rider training north east
The training I received from Iain’s team was nothing less than exceptional. From the moment I arrived I was made to feel welcome, involved and that the course was about me and what I got from the week. Chris and Nick were fantastic. Every step of the way on my rookie to rider 7 day course was made so simple. They were exceptional at delivering their training. Everything was explained clearly and precisely. Fantastic company. Fantastic people. I will definitely be returning for more advanced training asap. Thank you.
