Guided, Supported, and Inspired by the BDA

As a refugee dentist rebuilding my professional life in the UK, I am deeply grateful for the BDA's generous and practical support! The CPD on Demand, access to the dental library, informative BDJ publications, and welcoming events have all made a real difference in my journey.
The BDA’s ongoing support for professional development inspires hope and motivation in us, refugee dentists. It not only helps us stay updated but also makes us feel part of the professional community once again.

I’ve had mixed experiences with the…

I’ve had mixed experiences with the British Dental Association. While some staff, like Michael and Sarah, offered great support and advice, the overall service can feel inconsistent. Certain aspects of membership are helpful, but I personally think the value doesn’t always reflect the cost. It’s useful but not extraordinary—3 stars.

As a first-time dental practice owner

As a first-time dental practice owner, I faced significant challenges during the early months of inheriting an existing practice. One of the most difficult situations involved a key member of staff who, supported by an extremely aggressive union representative, made persistent efforts to pressure me into a procedural error. Their actions, which bordered on harassment, were clearly designed to threaten me with an employment tribunal—a situation that felt like a real-life shakedown. Those six months were incredibly stressful, leaving me feeling trapped in my own business, dreading work, and struggling to balance the demands of my young family. It was an emotionally and physically exhausting time.

Fortunately, Jacinta, Sabina, and the rest of the consultancy team at the BDA stepped in. They provided expert guidance at every step, giving me not only the advice I needed but also the reassurance and confidence that things would improve.

Now, nearly a year into ownership, I am free from the shackles of poor-performing staff and feel extremely happy. I can finally look forward to the future and watch my business thrive under new management. The BDA’s expertise, thoroughness, and kindness have been invaluable, and their support has transformed what was once a draining experience into an exciting and optimistic chapter of my professional journey.

Thank you to everyone at the BDA. I am proud to be a member and wholeheartedly recommend their services to other dental professionals, especially those embarking on the ownership journey for the first time.

Join the BDA!

Honest, helpful and constructive; no nonsense approach and advice you can trust. If you think you won't need BDA support at some point in your career, then think again. This is the one group that genuinely looks out for its members when they need guidance through the minefield that is the modern workplace. Props to CB (you know who you are) for the latest assist.

I recently had a CQC inspection

I recently had a CQC inspection. When I initially received the email , all I could think of was that I need help !
Being an expert member I contacted the BDA , and they did not fail too deliver , especially Sarah Williams , I can not thank her enough for her guidance and vast help, she went above and beyond and eased me through the process. So helpful on everything level , thank you Sarah .

Clawback dispute

I had a long drawn out clawback dispute with the NHSBSA and reached out to the BDA for help. Isabella McLean's response was prompt and very helpful. Isabella and James Goldman were very patient and helpful in bringing about a favourable resolution.

Two differrent problems -simple and efficient response

I called with two distinct problems .One was a HR problem concerning staff contracts and pay disputes.The other was about a patient complaint about my Hygienist not having her own nurse.
Michaels response was succinct ,easy to understand and came complete with references. Thank you for your expert advice.

Michael - Amazing knowledge and support - Thank you!

Michael has been so valuable in helping me with a HR issue, as a member its invaluable to know there's an expert at the end of the phone with all the help, advice and clear guidance on the rules, regulations and he helped me step by step and even helped with templates and wording of letters and emails to ensure we did everything we should!
Makes membership worth every penny!

Tribunal win..thanks to BDA
