Expect LONG delays if transferring funds

I am transferring my MYGA to my brokerage firm. I started the process 5 weeks ago. American National received the forms 4 weeks ago. I called and they said they mailed it on 3/3. My brokerage company called and were told it was mailed on 3/4. Somehow, I think my money is sitting in a bin waiting to be mailed. They don't brag about their crappy service in their brochure.

customer service sucks

I have a term Life policy that was supposed to be 20 year. Payments were 176 monthly. After 10 years payment jumped to 750 monthly. I called to cancel. Called at 11 AM and was told it would be 20 minutes or longer but I could receive a call back so I chose that option. At 5:30 PM I got a call back. When I told the person I wanted to cancel the policy she said she would have to transfer me to another department. I had to jump through the same hoops and when transferred was disconnected. I called back was on hold for over an hour before someone answered. Could not cancel online.

Customer of almost a decade left stranded!

I am writing this from the side of the road. We supposedly have 24/7 roadside assistance. We broke down on the side of the road and called. The agent said he would call us back once he found a provider and almost an hour later. We did not have a call. I called again and spoke to another agent who said she could not find a provider in the area she offered to call 911 for us. We found a tow truck within 10 minutes and gave her the number. American National would not use the tow company despite it being about $200. They would rather leave us stranded on the side of the road despite us having coverage.

They were also very slippery about whether they would reimburse us. They would not say anything other that they would evaluate the receipt for reimbursement. My hopes are not high, but I will update this if they do.

Know that if they refuse to have your back on $200 service, are they going to be there if your house burns down? Will be changing insurance companies ASAP after being with them since 2017. Decent rates mean nothing if they don’t provide the promised services.

Buyer Beware!

Terrible company! Don’t take my word for it- check reviews on all the consumer protection websites!
I bought a jewelry policy from my ANIC Agent in Minneapolis to cover my fiancé’s engagement ring. The jeweler provided all the paperwork, appraisals and certifications necessary to buy the CORRECT amount of insurance. I provided all of it, (and copy of my sales receipt to my agent) and have been paying the amount AMIC charges for each thousand dollars in value. The ring was lost, and I had to make a claim. The claims department at the company was non-responsive. I called them several times for updates- the person in charge of my claim, Shane Fowler never returned a single call. After a few months of being put off, I was contacted by a jeweler who said he works with American National Insurance, he offered to re-create the ring. I told him I would prefer to have the ring remade by the jeweler I originally bought it from. (It was a custom ring)
A week later I received a check from the insurance company for several thousand dollars less then the appraised/replacement value of the ring. My insurance rate was based on the value of the ring, and should have been covered for the value I was paying for. I have been with this company for approx. 20 years, (home and car) and have never made a claim.
When I made this claim, I was expecting fairness, and integrity, essentially getting what I thought I’d been paying for. I got the opposite. By using delay tactics, siting loopholes in the contract, and sleazy business practices, they exposed the company’s mission of paying as little as possible on their customer’s claims. Needless to say they are my former insurance company. If you’re insuring jewelry, check with the American Gem Society or the Insurance Information Institute. Wish I had.

Great rates poor service

Great rates poor service, claims are a nightmare and start off as adversarial with your adjuster not willing to help cover the cost of repairs.
