We recently stayed with our four children at the Chester Trafford Hall YHA, and booked two private rooms.
The facilities were excellent, the food was brilliant and the staff were so lovely and friendly.
Will definitely recommend and use again.

Went to YHA Langdale in Ambleside for my residential. IT WAS ABSOLUTELY AWFUL! Food was awful, I mean it shows when my friend threw it up. The building looked dodgy and there was cracks in the walls EVERYWHERE!!! Don't waste your money on YHA.

Although centrally and conveniently located, the room my son and I stayed in ( room 34) was SO unbearably hot,it was to all intents and purposes unuseable. The window in the room only opened approximately 6 inches. . The fan provided simply blew around hot air. After a second night without any sleep, no alternative room available, we simply abandoned abandoned the room and our plans.. Perhaps the same room in the winter might be better..
..The friendly staff are aware that this is a long standing and ongoing issue.
..If you are able to tolerate sleeping in an oven, then I actually recommend room 34,or the top floor of this building. Otherwise bypass It's still not exactly cheap
Absolutely fantastic vibe! I've been a member for so long I still love it
Staying at the yha in York. The building is looking shabby, flaking paintwork in places. The wifi only works in reception, not in the room. Also.... sign outside says tea and cake £2. When I asked at the desk the deal is actually buy any cake get a hot drink for £2. The member of staff did explain but they are waiting for a new sign to be delivered. Also charging £5.95 for one slice of cake is a rip off....the food is good but expensive. The staff are really helpful but the place is definitely looking shabby. Its a shame as we have stayed here quite a few times before.

Well, I tried! I rolled up to YHA Castleton Losehill Hall hoping for a cozy bed, only to find they were fully booked. And yet, somehow, I'm still giving them five stars. Why? Because even without a room, their hospitality was so warm and welcoming, it almost felt like I did stay the night!
The staff were incredibly lovely, helpful, and went above and beyond to suggest alternatives, all with genuine smiles. It's rare to leave a place without having experienced its primary service and still feel this impressed. Clearly, they've mastered the art of making guests feel valued, even when they can't accommodate them.
If this is how good they are when they're full, I can only imagine the magic they work when they actually have a room for you. I'll definitely be trying to book again – this time, much further in advance! Top-notch people, top-notch vibes.
Stayed for a week in this very beautifull and well equiped hostel, with a very kind en funny staff.
Pitching my tent was excellent on flat ground with plenty of space. The atmosphere of the hostel was excellent and the staff were very helpful, friendly and accommodating. Facilities (food, showers, toilet, drying room, self catering kitchen etc) were very good. Superb stay

I paid a 25% returnable deposit to book one night on YHA Ambleside website and the booking somehow ended up on Hostelworld. I had to cancel the booking and expected my deposit back. I didn't receive a refund from Hostelworld and I was then also charged the remaining fee for the room that we had cancelled. I called YHA who said I would have to contact Hostelworld for the 25% and the remainder would come from YHA!! I then called Hostelworld who apologised and refunded my deposit. No refund came from YHA and I had to call again to eventually get everything back.
To cap it all!! I've just received my phone bill and was charged 45p for my call to Hostelworld which is in Ireland! All a total mess and has put me off EVER staying with YHA again.

Make sure you are absolutely 100% definite on dates before booking. I booked a brief trip then the next morning found out a colleague on my team had already booked the same dates as leave, so I had to reschedule. Lost out on 20% of the booking cost because rescheduling 6 months before the trip is penalised just as much as outright cancellation with only 1 day of notice
(I discussed with their customer services. There is a grace period of 24 hours, any rescheduling after that is counted as cancellation).

I used the youth hostel after my mum died, while waiting to be allowed to move into the property. It went really well at first, but then, I used the promotion code on the website. I did not realise terms & conditions changed over Christmas, you can no longer change or cancel booking with 80% refund. I booked 13 weeks for 3 nights a week, lost all my money. I was speaking highly of it. But never again.

I never really write reviews. But made sure I found the time to write this. YHA Bath was an absolute delight. Our family ( 2 adult and 3 children) havent used a hostel for a while and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Very relaxing, staff were very accomidating and friendly and kids felt safe enough to move around the hostel on their own with confidence. Nice views and very pleasant walk into the city. Highly recommend.

My husband, son and I recently stayed at the Lee Valley hostel. The location is great if you want to visit central London; they offer free parking and the local train station is just down the road. We explored the local country park which was great for walking and observing the local wildlife.
We booked a triple bedroom with en-suite facilities and were very pleased. The self catering kitchen was great for preparing our evening meal and the cooked breakfast was delicious. Great value!
Another wonderful stay at a YHA hostel, this time at Eskdale. A little jewel of a place, a haven at the end of the valley. Lovely, comfortable stay & beds & bathroom facilities, lovely staff, lovely food & drink. What more can one ask for. The staff were / are welcoming, friendly and helpful. Will definitely be returning.

YHA LONDON LEE VALLEY IS GREAT PLACE. DRIVE FROM STANSTED AIRPORT 45MIN. OWERGROUND STATION (CHESHUNT) IS LESS THEN 5 MIN WALK
AND YOU CAN REACH CITY CENTRUM IN ABOUT 20MIN. PARKING IS FREE. VERY GOOD BREAKFAST.
YHA Whitby refused to refund me after they asked me to cancel due to an error with my booking saying that they didn’t have any spaces left. It was an error that THEY clearly made. I understand they have a ‘no refund policy’ (despicable if you ask me!), but by rights I should be entitled to one under the circumstances. On the plus side, this booking with YHA was only a last resort after my last visit with what looked to me more like an asylum and am relieved to have since secured a much better accommodation.

YHA Berwick upon Tweed
Great stay in every respect. Easy to book, and clear communications received prior to arrival. Staff were courteous, friendly, humorous and helpful. Room (private with en suite in a converted granary) was cosy , clean and had all the basics that one needs, the bed was comfortable and warm. Continental breakfast was very good value. Would definitely stay again.
After 5 nights at YHA Cheddar in Somerset our stay was excellent. Location was superb for access to Wells Glastonbury and Bath was an hour by car. Staff went the extra mile, position of hostel beside primary school playground an added delight at play time.
Annexe adjacent to hostel had a self catering kitchen and dining area , both spotless bright and warm . Sufficient toilets and showers although a sink in our bedroom would be good.

YHA Borrowdale in the Lake District......fantastic, wholesome, clean, good food, excellent staff, wonderful location, child friendly.
Tucked away in the warm embrace of nature with the tumbling River Derwent weaving its way through the landscape within a two minute walk....
What more could you ask for?
