Best travel insurance

I was initially introduced to Zoom by a friend. Policies were comprehensive and prices were fair. It is easy to use the website and there are no continuous email ads after you purchase a policy. The best thing about Zoom is the easy claims process and the prompt reply from their agents. Very efficient, clear and fair processing of your claim. I use Zoom for all my travel insurance and recommend them to all my friends.

Easy to set up

Did a compare between companies for internal travel insurance. Zoom offered the coverage we required and it was easy to arrange online.

only NZ company providing comprehensive cover for individuals with complex requirements

This is the only NZ company that offers insurance for a complicated case such as mine. All other service providers that I have contacted have failed to offer travel insurance for my specific circumstances- visiting a high-risk country, stay is long, purpose partly business and partly leisure, age over 70 years, need a comprehensive health and safety cover. The only other option is to source the service from overseas such as the USA which I have done in the past. Thanks we have Zoom in NZ that can offer full insurance cover for NZ residents. Securing a policy is as easy as A B C .. just go online, enter details, pay and off you go. So far, I have not had the need to make a claim and I do hope that the process would be as easy as purchasing a travel insurance policy.

Fine if you are Mr & Mrs Average

The website is a nightmare to navigate; I filled out our details for a quote FOUR times. The headline prices are very attractive at first glance but as soon as you need to add something in like a (very minor)pre existing medical condition, or increase the level of cover for cancellation costs (to match your holiday price), the price rockets: its a licence to print money!

DO NOT bother with this insurance…

DO NOT bother with this insurance company. They are not here to be helpful and ive never experienced an insurance company whose main ploy is to do ANYTHING in order to not pay out. They are not there to offer you reassurance and sympathy they are there to make sure they can do anything possible to not pay. We lost my son's Passport on a flight. (we think if fell down a hole in floor) they have been given the emergency passport receipt, the slip from the airport that shows we had to be escorted through, a copy of the passport that was lost and a copy of the urgent passport that replaced it. not good enough apparently they want a report from the airline (there was not one nor would there be a way to get one as all our dealings were at the immigration desk) and are trying to use it as a loop hole to not pay. Losing this passport was horrific and they (instead of caring and just putting through this very legit claim which they are well aware is legit) only want to add to your troubles. WORST customer service ever

Very, very disappointing

If we could give less than one star for Zoom Travel Insurance "comprehensive" cover then we most definitely would. DO NOT waste your time or money taking out travel insurance with this mob! It is bad enough having the gut wrenching experience of having items stolen while you are on holidays than to attempt to make a claim and be told the "depreciation" of your stolen items (iPhone, battery pack) means that according to Zoom they have absolutely no value anyway! And what of replacing $300 spent on emergency prescription medications that were stolen along with my 3 month old backpack and other valuable items? Well, in total Zoom were very generous in offering a grand total of $37 for the lot (iPhone etc included!). I repeat DO NOT waste your time or money with this absolute rip off company.

I travel for work and have been to the USA, NZ, AUS and EU multiple times. My experience with travel insurance is much better elsewhere. The team really needs to step it up. Policies are difficult to understand and too rigid feels like you are walking on ice. Too many documents asked also. Needs to be made simple for the clients. The only reason this is not 1 star is because the customer team is very nice but they cannot control everything.

Never again

Never again! We requested a valid claim and provided the right documents. Yet they refused to approve our claim. Don't even think about getting your travel insurance with this company. They will just rip you off. Yes, they may be few $ cheaper than your usual travel insurance but why pay cheaper for this company if they won't even approve your valid claim. Don't waste your time with this company.

We're sorry to hear you had trouble with our claims process. Like all insurances, our policies don't cover everything. Terms, limits and exclusions apply, and we encourage all customers to read the policy terms to understand what is and isn't covered.

If you are unhappy with the outcome of your claim or believe you were not represented fairly, you can lodge a complaint with us to have your case reassessed. Details of this can be found in your outcome email.

Thanks,
Abby

Thinking of getting insurance with Zoom….CUTE

Thinking of getting insurance with them? Cute.

Here’s how it actually works:

You pay for the policy.
You pay the excess.
Wait 5 months (WITH receipts and a police report already provided).
Then they depreciate everything you own into oblivion.

My $3,700 claim turned into $900.

Items not even 2–3 years old? Hit with up to 60% depreciation. Just like that. Then they take the excess off what’s left — because why not finish the job.

End result: you’re insured… in theory.

Wish I read the reviews first — sitting at 2.8 stars for a reason. Now I know.

They’ll point to the PDS like it explains everything, but the way it’s applied makes this cover practically useless for personal items. It’s not protection — it’s a slow, polite way of saying “good luck.”

If you actually want insurance that works, look at NRMA, Allianz, AAMI or QBE — and make sure it’s NEW FOR OLD. Otherwise you’re just donating premiums.

Expensive lesson.

Don’t make the same one.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're truly sorry to hear that your experience with us did not meet your expectations.

Unfortunately, even with proof or purchase for an item, all goods are subject to depreciation, the reduction in value of your items over time.

We have a guide detailing this on our website if you would like to review it further.

5 star reviews are fake

I do not believe any of these 5 star reviews. I’ve been travelling for more than 30 years and I’ve never experienced a travel insurance company that denies a claim for missed hotels and basic out of pocket expenses for flight cancellations and re-routing. Any legitimate insurance company (TID, Allianz, Covermore etc) would have honoured this sort of claim without hesitation. Instead, Zoom travel first made me jump through ridiculous hoops to provide over-the-top documentation (eg insisting on personal letters directly from the hotels and airlines confirming what was already confirmed by their websites, my receipts and my itinerary) and then, after me finally getting the required documentation (which required escalating the airline matter to the CEO of the company), they denied the claim saying their policy didn’t cover these items - even though I had purchased their equivalent of “the works”. Do not get seduced by the lower premium - they will not honour your claim if you make one. Total scam.
