Physician review

For a physician like myself, Zocdoc provides an invaluable service. Unfortunately, patients may not understand that physicians are charged if they do not cancel within 24 hours, so if they are not planning to follow through, it is a significant cost to the physician. Also, there are challenges with scheduling in multiple times zones--the user interface is prone to allowing errors in scheduling in the wrong state. The developers seem disinterested in improving the software, though the service personnel really try to help.

A Provider’s Perspective: The Hidden Cost of Your Appointment

If you use Zocdoc, you should know how it impacts your healthcare providers. This company functions as an advertising platform, and their fee structure is significantly impacting the industry.

Behind every click, Zocdoc charges your doctor or nurse an average of $50–$120 per booking. The most concerning part? Zocdoc often refuses to waive these charges even if the patient cancels or never walks through the door. This means your local clinic is losing money before they even see you.

When you think about the rising cost of healthcare, remember that a large portion of that money isn't going to the people treating you—it’s going to platforms like this. Zocdoc, I'm talking directly to you, myself and other providers our next stop is the Better Business Bureau, followed probably by a law suit, and we will not rest until we force you to stop your predatory policies.

Hello,Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback and for advocating for your practice and your peers. I’m really sorry for the frustration this has caused you, and I want to be transparent about how Zocdoc’s pricing and policies work.Zocdoc is a patient-acquisition and marketing platform rather than a medical billing or collections service. There are no upfront or subscription fees to be listed on the Zocdoc Marketplace; instead, practices pay a one‑time booking fee only when a new patient books through the Zocdoc website or app. You are not charged this fee for existing patients booking with a provider they have already seen through Zocdoc, or for bookings that come through your Book Online Button or Google Business Profile. You’re right that, under our standard policy, the new‑patient booking fee is incurred at the time of booking, even if the patient later reschedules or does not show up. That said, we do not treat every cancellation the same. In good faith, Zocdoc waives fees for certain patient‑initiated cancellations, particularly when a patient cancels shortly after booking and before the appointment has occurred, and we actively monitor behavior on both the patient and practice side to keep the system fair. Thank you again for raising this so candidly and for the care you provide to your patients.

Bait and Switch for consumers

ZocDoc allows clinicians to put staff under other staff for availability. While this seems like a great idea to give more options to clients, it is not executed well. Clients are not made aware enough that they are not seeing the "profiled" therapist. Also, when a client leaves a review, if the review was intended for the resource staff, it is actually placed in the "profiled" therapists account. This is for good or bad service. This feels misleading for potential new clients because they will not know if the comments are for the profiled therapist or a different one.

Thank you for sharing your feedback — I'm truly sorry for any confusion or frustration this setup has caused. On Zocdoc, some practices allow additional clinicians (like NPs, PAs, and other team members) to be booked as "resources" under a supervising provider's public profile. In these situations, the supervising clinician's profile is what appears in search results, and the resource's availability is displayed under that profile, allowing the practice to offer more appointment times. When this is used, patients should see a clear notice indicating they may be seen by someone on the supervising provider's team, rather than the profiled clinician directly, and post-visit feedback is attributed to the supervising profile accordingly. That said, your concerns about transparency, especially regarding who the reviews are about, are completely valid. Our intention is never to mislead patients or misrepresent a clinician's work, and we take the accuracy and fairness of reviews very seriously. If a resource is incorrectly mapped or we find reviews are not attached to the correct profile, our Trust & Safety team can investigate and, where appropriate, remove or correct those reviews in line with our policies. We are actively working to make these scenarios clearer for both patients and providers, and your feedback is a valuable part of that process. Best Regards, Team Zocdoc
