Battery replacement

Purchased a 4 wheel drive chair from them 3 years ago. Needed to replace the battery at a cost of over $1,000. They no longer make a replacement battery for that chair and have changed the design of the chair and battery. Modified the chair to accept the new style battery and was promised $250 dollars to have that done. They never paid. Battery was defective and does not work. I am now a proud owner of a boat anchor (aka piece of junk) since they have quit responding to emails. Paid over $13,000 for the chair and expected better customer service. Guhesh is ghosting me.

Foldawheel XL

I purchased a Foldawheel XL from this company a few years ago. Frankly I would avoid buying anything from this company. Admittedly, my chair still runs. But I owe no thanks to the company or its customer service, because I've had to learn to fix it myself, or do without. The company has no customer service (you deal with sales reps), and it has no network of technicians (in this country), that repair the chairs. The warranty is not worth much. Read it closely. Its a complex maze of legal mumbo jumbo that is limited to manufacturers product designed defects.
Here is my experience. I'm an above the knee amputee. During my experience its important to know that at all times my chair was still under warranty. Also, I purchased this wheelchair as my a backup chair. I already had a Invacare Nutron and a manual chair. So this Foldawheel was NOT put into everyday use. Sparing many of the annoying details, I will try to tell this cautionary tale of my experience with this company.

First, within the first few months after purchase, the plastic footplate brace broke. Then the cheap (foam or some similar material) arm rests pads began to peal and break off. I contacted wheelchair company and had to purchase new arm rest pads (about $200). After about six months the new pads began to peal and break. Eventually I took off the foot plate and the arm pads and just used the metal framework on the chair without the plastic and foam attachments.

After about a year, I next contacted the company to purchase a third lithium ion battery. My chair came with two with the capability to add a third battery to extend the chair's range. I was told that the company no longer used the batteries I got when I purchased my chair. The new batteries now in use, were not compatible with the old ones that came with my chair. So, I had to purchase three of the new batteries (very expensive $1,200 - $1,500 as I recall). I didn't do it.

Next, the ball bearings on the right front wheel began to go out. My chair would sometimes make a fairly loud clicking sound. I didn't know what it was. I feared it might be the motor so I contacted the company. I asked for a list of reputable repair people to whom I could take the chair. I was told to take a picture of it and email it to them. I was puzzled about how I could take a picture of the sound I occasionally heard. Long story short, after a few weeks I figured it out because sometimes I would hear the click and lose control of the chair. The chair would not respond to the joy stick. So I took the front wheel off and emailed them pictures of the wheel, the bearings etc. They claimed it was normal wear and tear and not covered by the warranty. I insisted that I only occasionally used this chair. But after some back and forth, I purchased the ball bearings for the wheel. Moreover, they had no repair technicians. They told me "It was an easy fix" and they would send me a link showing me how to do it.

I decided to purchase bearings for all of the wheels so I would not have to revisit this issue with the company again. They sent me bearings and a YouTube instruction link purportedly showing how to fix the wheel. I must have watched that video 5 times before I realized the chair depicted in the video was not my chair, instead it was the new version of my chair, and the bearings that they sent me were the wrong ones. They didn't fit my chair. I contacted the company and told them the problem and they told me they would send the right bearings ASAP. Meantime I went to a machine shop with the broken bearing and purchased a couple for half the price the company charged. When I received the bearings from the company, they never sent any instruction video. Eventually, I figured it out for myself. It's lucky that I did too. Because within the next few months, the bearing on the left wheel failed. I fixed it myself.

Finally, in the ratings, I note that the average rating for this company is 4.1 stars and they only disclose five "5 star" ratings, There appear to be some ratings missing because five " 5 star" rating do not average 4.1 stars. I rate them with ONE star out of five. I am in the market for a new chair since my Nutron died. But I will avoid this company.

Can someone help me find parts in USA…

Can someone help me find parts in USA for Wheelchair88's Foldawheel folding electric wheelchairs? I've been searching for months. Ordering from Malaysia, Shirley wants $1200 for the complete motor kit (robbery), where GoldenMotor sells their kit in USA for $675 shipped. Still, I'd prefer the original motors. Any clues? China manufacturer appears to be Suzhou Huijutong Trade Limited Company, elecwheelchairs is site. Might try searching the China manufacturer's part numbers? Thanks in Advance, Mikey

Fantastic customer service before and after sales

We purchased a wheelchair 88 chair from a local mobility company who have been less than helpful. Sri at wheelchair 88 has given excellent advice and customer service via email . We ordered some new batteries which came in less than a week, with full instructions on their care. All emails with questions and queries have been answered within 24 hours, despite being on the other side of the world.

My Foldawheel

I have had my Foldawheel for several years and it’s as good as new. I use it all the time indoors but it gets thrown around on our lumpy uneven road and pavements so I don’t use it outside although it goes up the ramp of the WAV perfectly. It’s very easy to manoeuvre and turns on a pin. I love it and thoroughly reccommend it. The service from the company has been excellent when needed in the early days.

Nergesh Bharucha There is no better…

Nergesh Bharucha There is no better after sales service ..... wheelchair88 has again passed the test. We flew from Mumbai to London last Friday. To our dismay when we unpacked the wheelchair( it’s over 4 years in use) the wire from the control box to the battery (which had been taped up by the airline) came out of the terminal. We were dismayed to start our holiday without any power in my husbands chair. Mr Sri of wheelchair88 is a gem! Our order was so well executed that within 4 days we received the wire we ordered and we are delighted that the chair is working perfectly again as our life now depends on it.

Freedom has Arrived

foldawheel px1000xl
Like previous reviews, I didn’t use a wheelchair full time, but after my fifth knee replacement, and the fact I was becoming House bound, the decision was made to get a electric wheelchair.
Now I’m only 52, and didn’t want to look to much like a grandad, driving up the middle of the road with people shouting at me “ get off the Road” and the same being said once I was on the pavement!!
So the challenge begin, to find an electric wheelchair, that would allow me to walk with my wife, fit in the car with ease, small enough to go on plains etc. Atfer a few day hunting high and low, and loads of reading, the wheelchair88 came out on top, Now I know it a fair bit of money and this type of chair doesn’t come easy to find in any display showroom for mobility scooters/ electric wheelchairs, but after watching a few YouTube videos, I was have to take the plunge and buy. We’ll order made and within 10 day’s it was on the front door step. Once out of the box only one bolt to tighten and that for the drive controller, which was easy to do plus there’s the paper work to show you what to do, remember any questions large or small were answered within minutes, via a quick email, everyone was so helpful. After a week of me looking at my new Wheelchair88 the decision to go out was made a wonderful sunny November day in Cornwall, I have to say I was nervous, after all, all I had done was go around in circles in the kitchen so far, lifting it out of the car and opening it up and sitting in the chair, it didn’t feel like I was in a wheelchair, it was very comfortable I’m just under 6 ft and just under 16st, I didn’t feel uncomfortable or my body was in the wrong place, so far so good, time start to move, speed control has 5 light with a plus or minus button, now I would say 3 is a comfortable walking pass and allowed to walk by the side of my wife for the first time in many years, talking to her, and not trying to turn and talk over my shoulder, as like I did when she was pushing me in my old manual wheelchair,we walked and talked for 90 mins along the camel trail in Cornwall up and down hill road surface, gravel, uneven surface, no problems , my only advice speed on to 4 lights to go up hill and down to 1 light when going down hill. It was a truly wonderful day, I can tell you I had a tear or two and so did Susan, I was so happy, this was the first time I had been able to go somewhere under my own stream, without thinking, how much to will hurt later, how much this will take out of me, as you know the list goes on, well everyday we can go out we get out now it wonderful if I want to go shopping I can now go shopping, Freedom has arrived! And on its first day out it had paid for it self, oh not said anything about setting up, well to be honest there is none just lift with one hand and push with the other, just like a pushchair, clip the clip behind the set and your off, charging took a couple hours first time, and then easy to charge while in the car I found, the build quality and design are excellent, the out of the box thinking such as the extra nuts and wire clips and the bag under the seat that big enough to take y camera and other bits. This all give ticks in the right boxes, as you can tell I love it, Many thanks to everyone at Wheelchair88.com thank you
