RMA process woefully lacking
I had an issue with a WD external drive (My Passport Ultra). A reasonably painless RMA process (other than damaged files that I needed to pay a service to recover, but that's another story for a device less than a year old), and just received my replacement. They sent the wrong cable and when I inquired about getting the right one (I should have kept the original instead of sending it back), they don't have any in inventory and I have to wait, possibly weeks. What kind of company does this and does not have the correct replacement cables to ship on RMA products. Without me pushing customer service, they wanted ME to follow up with them in about a week to see if it was back in inventory. I am at a loss that a company can operate in this fashion. They were very specific as to how I needed to send the defective product back and what to include, I guess the opposite does not hold true. I am in Canada.
It's hard to imagine a worse consumer experience
It's hard to imagine a worse consumer experience than one has using western digital backup products (in my case, the so-called 'mycloud'). A mishmosh of software/apps/whatall are supposed to stand in for decent user friendly technology. Webpages that lead nowhere, firmware that doesn't match the firmware listed on their website, help pages that are hopelessly circular, utilities that are basically non-existent. A deeply painful experience that has me deciding to use online backups and forget home cloud solutions forever. Western Digital is by far the worst consumer products company I've ever used. There isn't even a word to describe how badly they suck. Avoid!
Terrible experience with support
Terrible experience with support. 'Support' offer no actual support and instead blame you for the problem with their product. They refuse to help and say there is nothing they can do. Then when asking again for help, they become aggressive and rude. They tell you to find a solution on your own via Google.

Western Digital made it overly hard to return a hard drive that didn't work, months later still haven't received a refund even though I returned the item promptly and according to their procedure. I would NOT recommend this company.
MyCloud has become worthless
MyCloud has become worthless. They forced me to upgrade from OS3 to OS5 and they can’t figure out how to fix it. It has been 6 weeks since this failed and I have called them so many times it’s ridiculous. I opened a ticket with them when this happened and they ran me thru a few tests which all failed. Then told me to try a reset and for them to wait is to long. So call back in 3 days if it doesn’t work. I have been going thru this circle for 6 weeks. Also the S/N and MAC address in the dashboard does not match the S/N and Mac on the device. They tell me this is a problem. I said THEY set them not me so are they going to replace it? Of course they said no and have no responded to me in a week. This company SUCKS!!!!!!!
Delivery Challenges - UPS are useless at delivering
Appalling. Avoid it like the plague. You have been warned.
If you want the items do not buy from them. They use UPS to ship and UPS are worse than rubbish. UPS turn up when they feel like it and do not tell us when they plan to deliver. Most other companies manage to notify delivery time slot. You have to be in the premises to receive the package if not it becomes a failed delivery. If you work away from home you have no chance of getting the items.
I am still trying to get delivery two weeks after WD shipped using UPS.
If you want the items without any hassle stay away from WD and buy from someone else who does not use UPS.
Update: After many calls to UPS and several assurances from UPS I still have not got the item. They have worn me down. I am going for a full refund. I dread to think how long that will take.
This is by far the worst online purcahse I have made in my lifetime.
Ordered 2 SanDisk flash drives
Ordered 2 SanDisk flash drives, paid for 2 SanDisk flash drives, they shipped 1. Tried to get resolution, call center will jerk you around. No resolution weeks later. Never again.
Just contacted them again and got the same run around. This is crazy.
Infuriating customer service
One of the more infuriating online transactions I've had in recent memory. Bought a micro SD card online on 4/8. Website says usually ships within 1 business day. Called customer service on 4/16, it still hasn't shipped. They won't cancel the order though even though the product hasn't shipped. I have to receive the card and then call them back to arrange the return.
WD OS5 more like OS0
Been happy using WD mycloud products for years, unfortunately now have a paperweight due to OS5 firmware update, cannot go back, and has been indexing everything for over two weeks now. running at max CPU,RAM. Drive no longer responsive, cannot access anything remotely or locally. WD only answer is to turn off indexing. This stops cloud access! Device is therefore no longer working as advertised. Why everything has to be indexed is beyond me. Files folders worked perfectly well. Someone needs to be fired at WD for this. I will never buy WD again and recommend everyone keeps well clear of these cowboys.

Given up with WD
Hopeless on another level. As mentioned previously on the many messages WD ship to UK from Holland using UPS.
According to my tracking number the item never left Holland, apparently due to BREXIT, well what a convenient excuse. I have had other items from Europe without issues and via different couriers.
So again I am left having to resolve this. I won't be using WD again. In my case they just don't deliver despite what their Web site says.
Support is terrible
Support is terrible. I waited almost 25 minutes in the chat box area and watched my # go from 22-1. When I became the #1 in line, I received a msg saying there were no agents available and cancelled my chat request.
That makes no sense to move people along in the line when you know you don't have enough agents and then they cancel your request. If I could've rated them 0 or less, I would have. And judging by the note re them not responding to complaints, that show customer service is not their thing.

I agree with previous BAD reviews of terrible service on technical support. I have an old WD external hard drive which now seems to be 'dead' - all I wanted to know was if/where/ I could get it looked at to see if possible to retrieve the data. First call - phone went dead after speaking to an agent for 1 minute; 2nd and third calls - after going through the rigmarole of the voicemails and pressing '1''2' etc, the line went dead. On account of this,I shall never buy their products again.
PRODUCTS DO NOT WORK AS ADVERTISED...TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
I own 2 Western Digital devices and have had essentially the same experience with both. I bought them to back up my computers. I set them up and both worked initially....until they didn't. Neither will remain connected and neither automatically backs up my files.
I bought a mycloud home, set it up on all three of my computers and it started backing up my files. I was able to access it via the cloud from any of my three computers. Initially, it appeared within my directory tree on all three computers and was accessible. Then it wasn't and it stopped backing up my files. I reestablished it on all three of my computers and was able to access it again on all three computers and it automatically appeared within the directory tree on all computers and was accessible again. And then it wasn't. I contacted customer service and about a week later they responded to me. To this day, if I want a file to be accessible on either of my WD products, I have to manually add the file to the drive, and then log into my mycloud home account everytime to access the file remotely.
Ridiculous products. Terrible customer service. Do not buy their products Their products DO NOT work as they advertise.
Great nice, not anymore
I agree with poor ratings of the product an customer support. I bought the cloud NAS and until the firmware 5 mandatory upgrade I was satisfied but that upgrade made my system and apps unusable for 7 weeks and support’s only response was we said it could take days and send logs, which I need, but they did not receive, so they say, but they have no place to upload log files? A storage company without a place to upload log files to? I have had enough, I am looking for a new NAS from a any company but Western Digital.
Delivery Issues
I placed an order on 28/11/20 for a SSD Hard Drive directly through Western Digital. The order was placed on back order and shipped 28/12/20 via UPS delivery from Holland to UK. It took 24 hour to enter the country but the first attempt to deliver was around a week later. UPS state on their website they attempt delivery on 3 occasions. The tracking showed 2 delivery attempts with the parcel marked as retuning to sender. When checking my CCTV only one attempt was made by someone not in uniform and not driving a UPS van. This van was a old blue van with only one working brake light. I enquired with UPS and was told the delivery was outsourced and that they could not track the item. I asked about the number of delivery attempts and was told it was 2. Asked why their website states 3 and no reply. I was informed I had to make a claim for loss or contact the seller. Western Digital support was extremely poor. No response to emails and closing the incident without updating me. I was called by a representative from Greece on 31/12/20 and told I would get my item even though the price had now gone up. I was also told compensation would be discussed with a supervisor. I was told there was difficulty sending items to the UK because of the festive holidays and issues around Brexit. I waited patiently and on 12/01/21 I was refunded without any further update. Very poor from Western Digital. I work in an organization that supports over 2,000 computer devices and will no longer give them custom. To say Brexit is the problem well I’ve received to packages from France without any similar issue.
Absolutely the worst customer service
Absolutely the worst customer service. They take up to a week to respond to emails. Hours to wait on chat. You can forget about calling them. Bought a harddrive from Newegg, WD Black, Dead on arrival...contact WD for replacement, after a long fight, they gave me a prepaid label, cheapest possible shipping took 2 weeks, after receiving the drive (confirmed by UPS) it took them 2 weeks to update the RMA system that they received it (they screwed up the serial or some other bs), then they said they sent the replacement out and provided a UPS tracking number, however, UPS doesn't have a record of this shipment being given to them... Just a trash company, people running their customer service should be THROWN out, not fired but thrown out...
Very poor quality, terrible experience
If I can leave a 0 star I would. I owned a number of different brands of storage hardware and western digital has got to be the worst. Very unreliable and you ended up probably worse off with unretrievable important data. The first one
of an older model - 50GB which requires you to plug it into the power point to start went dead in about a year, all my computers were not able to read from the hardisk thereafter and I could not retrieve some important data on it. There
were no mishandling or accidents, it just went dead like that. The second one which is a 500GB small portable unit bought some 10 years later was operating alright at the start but months later when I was moving files, it kept either
disconnecting occasionally or connection error messages popped out, sometimes I have to start over again and wasting lot of unnecessary time. It became more frequent and I decided to shelf it. Months later today, it went dead as well. This is such a horror stories especially if you trust it with important data. So if you want a reliable storage hardware, do not choose WD. Some of my other brands bought earlier even outlasted both my WD hardisks.
