In the Andover store I bought a bottle of wine. When it was opened it had a strong smell of a hospital ward. I poured three glasses and we tasted it and this was enough. I returned a half bottle, expl... See more

Another PR disaster from Waitrose…
Another PR disaster from Waitrose following on from their apparent poor treatment of a volunteer worker with special-needs last year. How people can shop at a supermarket that appeases thieves and punishes employees who stand up for what is right is beyond me. I’m sure the likes of Aldi or Lidl, who seem to have a more robust approach to thieves, will seize the PR opportunity and snap up the sacked employee. Customers need to vote with their feet!
A shoplifters paradise
A shoplifters paradise because if a long time serving staff member tackles a shoplifter they get fired and the shoplifters get away! 17 years service from a loyal member of staff who tried to protect the store from these vile thieves and he gets sacked. Avoid using a store that doesn't protect the rights of their own staff and putting customers in danger.
AFAIAK The End of Waitrose.
I don't think there is any value in re-employing the employee you sacked for protecting your store and stock because hopefully he will have the sense to have nothing to do with your disgraceful despicable company again. And that mirrors how I feel. I will NEVER shop at a Waitrose or any affiliated company like JOHN LEWIS again. EVER. Waitrose = finished as far as most DECENT British law abiding citizens are concerned.
Please consider boycotting Waitrose
Please consider boycotting Waitrose/ John Lewis. Their recent sacking of a very hardworking and 17 years loyal colleague for stopping a shoplifter is atrocious and just makes criminality acceptable. Don’t buy from them go somewhere else!

I would give no stars if I had the option. Like most people, I’m absolutely disgusted by your treatment of Walker Smith. Seventeen years of loyalty he gave you, just to be thrown out like he doesn’t matter. Shame on you. A warning, and some updated training would have been sufficient in these circumstances. I hope that poor man doesn’t end up losing his new home for trying to do the right thing.. Whoever made this cruel decision is one cold hearted POS. I hope Walker finds an employer that deserves him and a good lawyer that’ll take you to court!
Disgraceful
Disgraceful I thought I’d make a point by terminating any purchase involvement with Waitrose not realising how far their standing had plummeted already prior to that awful sacking. Management policy not to confront shoplifters has emboldened them and made them confident to turn thieving into an epidemic and inviting armed gangs to endanger their staff. Cowardly Gutless and Scurrilous.

Shocked to read that a staff member was sacked for defending your store. Absolutely disgraceful!!!!! Will never shop there again!
Shame on you
Shame on you.
Reinstate your employee that you sacked for dealing with a shoplifter.
Profits before decency?
After sacking a worker for attempting to stop a shoplifter, one wonders how much Waitrose does to protect the safety of shoppers.
One only has to look at the Clapham riots and the raid on shops, to asked the question 'if I'm a Waitrose shopper and involved in a fracas with a thief, whether a shoplifter of a phone or bag snatcher in a Waitrose will help be on hand or will I be banned from Waitrose if I attempt to protect myself?’
Waitrose's reason for the aacking is that staff have been hospitalised, but this does bring into question of what happens when a shopper is hospitalised.
It also brings into question that a thief is seen to be better protected than the victim, and a employee is sacked for being a LAW (not Waitrose's law!!!!!) abiding citizen.
The news says it all
I gave you 1 star for sacking a staff…
I gave you 1 star for sacking a staff member who was apparently sacked for trying to stop a thief. Really, Waitrose? 17 years of service and you fire the man over THAT? Awful. Respect your workers.
Shame on you Waitrose. .
²Shame on you Waitrose...staff member sacked for being a consciencious employee of many years and pulling up a thief after many occasions!!
No wonder your prices are a rip-off as you're happy to lose fortunes through thieving....Will never shop with you again.
Again SHAME ON YOU!
Why would you sack that poor employee Walker Smith for trying to stop a shoplifter?
Shame on you for firing that employee Walker Smith at Waitrose Clapham for trying to stop a shoplifter. I will never use Waitrose again. Shame shame shame. What message is this sending shoplifters ?. All these negative reviews over the past few hours from others are well justified. Read the room.
What a terrible decision
What a terrible decision, and what a terrible way to treat your staff

Boycot waitrose for firing a honest working guy. He needs to be hired back and whoever made that decision needs to be fired!
Bad form
Bad form. Not the way to treat loyalty and appears not the first time treating colleagues badly.

Will not spend my money with them that poor man that worked all those years for them.
Checkouts, M&S food now better and the firing of Walker Smith
A primarily use Waitrose as I’m lucky to live somewhere where this is my closest store! However luckily M&S have just recently opened a food store close to me! And to be honest I absolutely despise the fact that I have to use self service checkouts in Waitrose, mostly! Especially as I don’t always have a card on me! And to use cash, you have to go to a cashier! Secondly, the quality of food in M&S is just getting better and better! And thirdly:- this its just obviously badly managed:- Walker Smith, who worked at the Clapham Junction branch in London for 17 years, claimed he was fired by the retailer two days after he confronted the 'repeat offender' shoplifter when a customer told him someone had filled their bag with Easter eggs.
