A great service from great staff

Went to Swansea Village Hotel Bar & Grill for a birthday meal. The Bar & Grill Manager, Sophie, went out of her way to make the birthday meal one to remember. She placed balloons and a banner on the table and even bought a cake, lit candles and sung Happy Birthday with the other staff. Such a kind gesture from Sophie and her staff. We had starters, mains and desserts and it was all delicious.

Stay in your car or go to travelodge

Worse value than a travelodge, when they’re essentially the same.
Satisfactory room, it was clean and the room had more space than a travelodge equivalent.
That’s it for the good.
If you are not using the hotel for the gym then it’s pointless and I’d have preferred sleeping in my car. Oh and the car park is free on weekends.
The swimming pool and gym close early, not 24/7 which was a huge surprise frankly.
There are no vegan options for food or drink at all. Apart from tinned fruit salad in the continental breakfast.
There is no alternative milk, vegan or otherwise.
The lift was a joke, 1 lift that can maybe fit 3 people in at any time in terms of space.
The room is the same as a big travelodge room for double the price.
The food is so overpriced it hurts.
Not only do you have to have a room to get discounts but you also need to pay to be a member. And even then the value is awful.
I’m not sure how much more I can say, the windows open about 3 cm, the noise outside kept us up until about 2:30am when the screaming match between Dolly Parton and Brian Blessed finished.
I cannot stress this enough:
1 unless you are paid to stay here and you have no dietary requirements,
2 you will use the gym and pool between 10am and 7pm,
3 you are deaf or can sleep through an earthquake
Then avoid this hotel

Terrible customer service

Stayed at Village Newcastle. The company took 2 incorrect and unauthorised payments from my card over the weekend. I asked them to rectify these twice. First time I received an apology and was told it would be sorted. Second time I did not receive an apology and I felt that the member of staff was quite confrontational from the outset. I was told they have the right to take any payments they wish as part of their T&Cs. The duty manager did acknowledge that these were taken in error and said she would refund the incorrect amounts but wouldn't give me a receipt or email confirmation so that I could check this went through correctly. I was then told I didn't need this as the company wouldn't try to steal from me. I had not suggested anything of the sort, but I also wanted to have a record that it had been rectified. I am waiting for the payments to be refunded which could take up to a week. This has added a huge amount of unnecessary stress and upset to our weekend away.

Minute brunch dishes Beeston

I visited the hotel restaurant in Beeston Nottingham for brunch.
Paying £10 each for two minute dishes comprising 5 fish fingers and a dip along with 3 small pieces of chicken and a dip. No salad and served in tiny dishes. Food tasted ok but hardly qualified as worth £10 each. Would definitely not recommend having a daytime snack there.
Anywhere else will be better value for money.

Pathetic

Just tried to book a stay in one of their Hotels filled in all the information, authorised the payment on my App, then was told they couldn’t authenticate my account and to try another payment method. Tried again and the price had gone up by £30. What annoys me most is they blamed my card when it was their fault. Never Again.

Charged for a room that wasn't reserved

Booked a room on their website. Was charged to my bank account. The booking has not been made. Gave them a call, they can't find the booking in spite of me paying for it. Was promised a call back to resolve, no one has contacted me. I'm now stuck - out of pocket and no room booked.

Poor hygiene

I use the swimming facilities very regularly but the lack of hygiene at the pool is deteriorating. A big group of gentlemen, also regular users, use the sauna and walk straight into the pool to wash off the sweat. One even takes the towel that he uses in the sauna to dry off sweat, to the pool to wash it! Invigilating staff do not even notice this behaviour. I’ve raised the issue with desk and shift manager staff but nothing has been done to change this behaviour.

Abysmal customer care

After 20 days of chasing up a cancelled room and taking to 3 separate individuals; none of whom felt it necessary to inform me of how my issues were being resolved (Village customer service and the hotel at Leeds south itself)I’ve finally been given an apology and a refund.

My initial phone call to cancel was due to unforseen circumstances which the lady understood, agreed and checked it was ok to refund and cancel, relieved and relaxed assured all was sorted.

8 days later no refund and no call to explain ! Spoke to an advisor (zillah) via email who didn’t help and took up to a week to reply.

So rang the hotel direct, was told I’d be called on Monday - guess what? No phone call.

Emailed zillah again asking for an update, in the meantime I raised a bank cancel of the payment as I’d grown tired of waiting for a phone call or an email.

Absolute lack of care for the customer and 3 people along the sorry chain of events have; from a customer service pov been nowhere near the standard I’d expect from a chain of hotels.

Caveat the refund, communicate, value the customer and respond efficiently and effectively as a prerequisite.

Very disappointed- will avoid and ensure colleagues and coaches who travel the country avoid also! We had a 30+ booking in July as an academy i am involved with have a tournament in Sunderland, we won’t be staying with VH

Village hotels good and bad

Village hotels are modern, well designed and comfortable. Their swimming pools and sauna are good. However, their back office systems are not fit for purppse. I initially booked on the village rewards app. I was only able to book for 1 person and 1 breakfast, not 2 people. 1) The app is flakey.
Then i got a phone from village asking if i need to do any changes .. i asked to book for 2 people with total of 2 breakfasts. 2) when i arrived at the hotel i had to check in myself. Why do i have to do this? Didntvlike this. The staff should check in for me.3) i was presented with a bill for £60 .i said ive already paid whats this four? They replied they had 4 breakfasts on theit system. It took them 20 minutes to fix the issue. Stressful experience. 4) when i came down for breakfast the next day the guy at the desk said i wasnt on their system. He had to go to the main reception to check. The breakfast was good. I should also mention that village managed to screw up my booking a few years ago at the portsmouth hotel. The receptionist was rude after a standing argument for 20 mins the nanager came and apologised. Stressful. Anyway ive identified 4 major failures in back office systems. I normally charge out my time for consultancy but you got it for free.

Arrived to be informed reservation was cancelled due to 'leak'

Turned up at 20;15 for my two day stay only to be informed that my reservation had been cancelled - informed it was due to a leak but no other details provided.

They informed me they had booked me into a hotel near the airport which was a 15min drive away and, almost, exactly where I had commuted from. I asked why they hadn't contacted me in advance to inform me that my booking had been transferred and was informed they had - I said this wasn't the case as no missed calls and they then told me they tried to contact our travel company (despite having all my details on their system).

I understand issues occur (still not convinced I was given the full story) but it is how you deal with them and customer service was shocking - I have written to customer services and no response/feedback in 10days.

Will not be using Village Hotels again as they simply don't know how to treat their customers.

Your hotel is a meeting point for my…

Your hotel is a meeting point for my friends and I a few of them belong to your health spa, where we usually meet for a coffee breakfast or lunch.
On 24-12-24 we came to sit in peace to enjoy a quiet few hours together.
We did for virtually 2 hours over coffee and breakfast, it was particularly enjoyable for me as the past few months (years) have been very very difficult!
I have blood cancer and part of my care is my sweet little dog (Who is not an ounce more than 2 kg!) she has been made my legal support dog by the Doctor.
During the two hours my tiny dog who was extremely quiet and was adored by all that passed from adults to tiny children, all the while we enjoyed two pleasurable hours in your foyer.
That is until an extremely rude member of your staff came over telling me that we were not welcome there and moments to pack up and leave.
That is when I presented her with my card and offered her to take it to photo copy and find out its validity on line.
She proceeded to tell me my dog was not a blind dog and that is all you allow into the premises.
I again reiterated that there are MANY disabilities that qualify which is when she got extremely rude and told me I was now banned, at which point in frustration I told her to buzz off and that I was collecting my things and we were leaving anyway.
It is at that point she had gone back to the main desk and was pointing in my direction talking with 3 huge men from your staff.
I went over passing the desk on my way out I pointed at maria asking her for the contact details of head office to be written down for me at which point I was told to go by maria and one of these huge men that I should go and look on the Internet.
A few enjoyable hours were ruined by this utterly rude lady who behaved like a cocky peacock all of which was not warranted, nice or necessary!
What she did is also contravening law, I told her this gently and to go properly check before behaving in a heavy handed rude manner.
Bonnie my adorable companion was barely noticeable, quiet sitting on my lap, I have to say if you have incompetent people like maria in management positions running your hotel you have serious problems!
I sent head office TWO emails that have never been responded to that in itself says a lot!
I am writing this review as my friend and I once again were having coffee in her health spa we were horrified to once AGAIN witness this girl maria in her full swing drama.
A poor older lady was the recipient of this rude rude girl.
To cap off her appalling behaviour she called the police to have this little “old lady” physically removed…It is blatantly clear a little power in the hands of people like this girl maria seems to go straight to their heads!!

Ashton Moss Substandard Food

Used the pool with my daughter and decided to have a drink and something to eat, i ordered a pizza and some fries which included onion rings. When the food arrived the onion rings were rock hard totally inedible, i asked that they be replaced which they were, they to had obviously been reheated but weren’t has bad as the first ones. So not wanting to make a fuss i decided to try one, big mistake.
I ended up breaking a tooth now I’m expecting to have to pay hundreds of pounds for dental work.

Village Ashton Moss

Village Ashton Moss. Men’s changing facilities and showers for the gym are disgusting. Used various gym for over 20 years and these are the worst I have seen. Been going down hill for approx 6 months. They stink, shower cubicle walls are covered in mould, most showers are leaking.

Dirty, nasty pool and changing rooms with policies that don't serve members trying to keep fit

I've sent written complaints, complained in person and via their NPS surveys about the state of the pool and dressing rooms at the gym in Bournemouth and no action has been taken. It's nasty. Detritus floating in the pool - I use it 3 times a week and I see the same plasters and ear plugs floating every day. I've had painful ear infections from this pool. They don't have a dedicated cleaning team, it's up to the lifeguards - which seems wrong. The changing rooms and showers are usually very dirty - how can a lifeguard clean and protect swimmers? On top of that, it's within their policy to allow people to stand at the end of the swimming lanes in little groups so it's impossible to get a good swim in. Avoid at all costs, this isn't a £50pm gym, it's not even worth paying £10.

Having a short break visiting my childhood home, staying at Village hotel Bromborough. Nice location, good sized room. Very clean and modern. Also forgot how friendly and helpful the locals are... from the night staff who checked us in and showed us to our room, to Tracy in the bar making sure we had fresh milk. She even gave us her own snacks as there weren't any biscuits. Good decision to stay
