Excellent performance
My wife and I retired from teaching and bought a small croft on the east coast of the Isle of Lewis - about 5 miles north of Stornoway on the weather map. We wanted a house that really performed well in terms of energy saving. The structure is SIP, we have ASHP and MVHR and the building is sealed very tightly. We were aiming at an overall 'U' value of 0.14. We looked at a variety of window systems. We realised that the combination of performance factors we wanted meant that the windows and doors would be an expensive item. Velfac seemed to offer all of the performance we wanted but were more expensive that the budget originally allowed.
So an exhaustive process of specification versus cost begin. The sales team were able to offer a very high level of technical input and answer all the (dumb) questions that I needed to ask. We agreed on the spec and sizes........and so began pricing. Some trade offs were made in the process but eventually we agreed on a price that was possible - just - and I signed up.
I was aware of some of the horror stories posted on line about Velfac and their customer service. I can honestly say that at no point in the process did i encounter a problem. Velfac were brutally clear about their terms and conditions but these were simple to work to. I dealt with a technical representative who's working knowledge of the system and its application was superb. All sizes were confirmed and signed off with the balance of the overall cost paid as requested.
I was given a delivery date for the windows to be delivered into Inverness (deliveries to the Hebrides are a very tricky area...). The windows arrived on the day and we saved a substantial sum by having a forklift available to offload.
The windows were then forwarded on to Stornoway and I carried out the first inspection. The packaging was excellent and there was no damage to even the external plastic wrapping. Finally the windows arrived onsite and were unloaded (only problem ....we had not realised that the french windows weighed 230 kilos.....)
We unwrapped the windows - there was no damage at all.
......The windows were installed and are now fully occupied keeping our house very warm and dry.
From our perspective Velfac have been the best performing supplier in the whole of the build process. We agreed size, shape, spec, price and delivery date. We paid Velfac delivered exactly as promised. If I ever decide to do this again....unlikely........I would specify Velfac.
