Used Tyn Lon for over 2 years for my VW Transporter 2019. Tyn Lon have been great until now!!! Never been charged £185 for a diagnostic test prior to previous work. Usually there is an initial investigation, then advised what needs doing & costs involved, in writing. In this case the van needed a new alternator pulley & drive belt tensioner damper, which has a distinctive noise, an experienced mechanic would recognise this without in-depth diagnostic.
Diagnostic charge advanced Warning not transparent: Unfortunately, my fault didn't scroll down the email "MANAGE MY BOOKING" highlighted in blue. After “MANAGE MY BOOKING” notification it shows the amount to be charged. The whole message doesn't show in the iPhone window, so just assumed it was a booking confirmation as you do when you read stuff on your phone. Tyn Lon send a few text messages building up to the appointment for reminders, not usually emails.
Lastly in Nov 2024 Tyn Lon fitted a power steering pump, now it is making a noise, out of warranty, plus 6000 miles added to the clock. Tyn Lon still want to charge me for looking at it first.
Feel this is poor customer service, obviously loyalty doesn’t mean anything. Perhaps a Volvo dealership isn’t the right place to take your vehicle if it isn’t a Volvo or electric?! Perhaps they should be telling customers this instead of taking their money.
Finally: Had work carried out with another garage £200 cheaper than Tyn Lon’s quote, plus a few customer advisories for which they didn’t charge me.
Hope this helps, please do read beyond “MANAGE MY BOOKING”. Average diagnostic charge usually £50 to £100.
