The site has been very useful to us during our travels. It is very prompt and on the whole relatively easy to use although I had a little trouble with the initial sign up, I struggled to upload my husband’s ID & email address, ( I’m not sure if it was because I tried to go back to it after uploading my own ).

I have used Trusted Housesitters three times now. The site is easy to navigate and set up a profile. Each time I was going away I was able to find a suitable pet sitter for my cat, who also respected my property. It is a safe and reliable resource for those looking for quality care for their pets and properties. I highly recommend!

4th sit a disaster with no help from THS

We've experienced 3 wonderful sits via Trusted Housesitters. Unfortunately, our 4th sit was a disaster with a sitter who decided she couldn't handle our dog anymore. We had to rush back and we're out more than 1,000 Euros plus an inordinate amount of effort to reschedule/rearrange our trip. There is no compensation for lost fees and reservations and their support team doesn't help at all. The matching platform software is good, and I imagine most sitters work out well, but pet parents have no recourse when things go wrong. Offering $150/day for alternate pet care is useless if there is no adequate kennel nearby. And it's impossible to select an in-home sitter when one is in another country in just a few hours when the confirmed sitter is on the way out.

Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback; it is always appreciated. Entrusting someone with your pet and home requires trust, and it is frustrating when an arrangement falls apart mid-sit. We completely understand this, which is why we offer our Sit Cancellation Policy for all premium members. While our Sit Cancellation Policy includes daily emergency pet care coverage, we recognise that things like a lack of nearby facilities make situations like yours more difficult to resolve. However, you do have the option of the use of in-home sitters, not just kennels, with the policy.

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback; we appreciate them and the time it takes to leave one. We completely understand how it might feel like our role is just introduction and checklist reminders when a sit goes well. Behind the scenes, however, our member support team continuously assists members with ID verifications and background checks and offers dedicated member support to all members and their queries, whether they are on an active sit or not, along with helping members with any policy questions and claims in the rare event of cancellations. Our member support specialists are available 24/7 to assist members with queries or help with any on sit questions that could potentially occur.

Very disappointed by the support from THS

Very disappointed by the way our complain to THS was handled. A petsitter left us a review containing many lies about our sit and THS refused to interfere as the review was "compliant to their guidelines".
A petsitters left 5 weeks before the end of the sit and we didn't get assistance from THS, we had to deal with all the consequences ourselves.
I was expecting more support form THS regarding the high fee we pay every year.

Hi Alexandra,

Thank you for leaving your feedback; we always appreciate the time members take to leave one. At TrustedHousesitters, we operate a 100% tamper-proof policy for all reviews. As long as reviews remain respectful, a member has the right to leave their opinions and comments. Because of our tamper-proof policy, we do not accept review disputes. As part of the code of conduct that all members commit to, both pet parents and sitters agree not to cancel a sit unless faced with extraordinary circumstances. This mutual agreement means it’s rare that sitters cancel. If they do, they must let you know as soon as possible and provide their reason. If a sitter ever cancels a sit, your dates will be re-listed, and your listing will show up at the top of relevant searches, as we are an introductory platform and both hosts and sitters are members, we cannot source a replacement sitter. However, if you have our premium membership, you do have the option of claiming on the sit cancellation policy.

TrustedHousesitters Dismissed My Safety Concerns, Denied My Refund, and Refused to Escalate My Complaint

I had a deeply upsetting experience with TrustedHousesitters as a sitter, and I want prospective members to understand not only what happened during my sit but also how the company responded when I sought help.

During a cat sit arranged through TrustedHousesitters, I experienced three incidents involving cat bites and scratches that broke my skin. I also experienced flea bites on my ankles and feet that were swelling and blistering. These were not trivial inconveniences. I had legitimate concerns about my safety and health, and I did not feel comfortable continuing the sit under the circumstances.

The homeowner did not disclosed these issues before the sit. Before accepting the sit, I specifically asked the homeowner point-blank how often either of her cats scratched or bit people as one of my evaluation questions. Her answer was that it never happened. I was not adequately informed of what I might encounter, which meant I could not make a fully informed decision about accepting the assignment. I believe prospective sitters deserve accurate information about relevant animal behavior and conditions in a home so they can assess the risks before agreeing to a sit. She admitted knowing the behavior when I reached out to her to let her know that it was happening and when I asked her how to prevent it. She gave me no solutions to the problem at hand.

What made the experience even more disturbing was TrustedHousesitters' response.

When I raised my concerns about being bitten and scratched, I was told, in effect, that this was normal behavior for cats. Seriously? There is a difference between acknowledging that cats can scratch or bite and dismissing repeated injuries to a sitter as an ordinary part of the experience. The fact that an animal can exhibit this behavior does not mean a sitter should be expected to accept repeated injuries without meaningful support or consideration of the circumstances.

I expected a company charging an annual membership fee to take a member's safety concerns seriously, investigate the circumstances, and consider whether the situation warranted an exception to its usual policies. Instead, I felt that my concerns were minimized.

I also asked TrustedHousesitters to consider extenuating circumstances in light of the safety issues that led me to leave the sit. Those circumstances were not accepted. My request for a refund of my annual membership fee was denied, and I was permanently removed from the platform after leaving the sit.

To make matters worse, TrustedHousesitters would not escalate my complaint to a manager. I was left without the opportunity to have someone more senior review the circumstances and the handling of my case.

What I find particularly troubling is that I was permanently removed from the platform, while the homeowner was allowed to remain on it. The homeowner had not disclosed the issues I subsequently encountered, yet I was the one who lost access to the service after leaving a situation in which I experienced repeated injuries. From my perspective, this raises serious questions about how TrustedHousesitters evaluates safety complaints, holds homeowners accountable, and decides which members face consequences when a sit goes wrong.

I understand that house-sitting involves responsibility, that animals are unpredictable, and that no platform can guarantee a completely risk-free experience. That is not my complaint. My complaint is about the lack of disclosure, the repeated injuries, and the company's response when I sought help.

A company should be able to distinguish between an ordinary challenge of caring for an animal and a situation involving repeated injuries that causes a sitter to question their safety. It should also have a meaningful process for reviewing exceptional circumstances, addressing potential nondisclosure by homeowners, and escalating serious complaints.

My experience left me feeling that the company's profits took precedence over a member's legitimate safety concerns, while the homeowner faced no comparable consequence that I could see.

I strongly encourage prospective members to research how TrustedHousesitters handles safety incidents, homeowner disclosure, early departures, extenuating circumstances, refund requests, and complaints that members want escalated to management. Consider how the company treats sitters when something goes wrong and what accountability exists for homeowners.

This was not the level of support I expected from a paid membership service, and I would not feel comfortable recommending it based on my experience.

Hello Ali,
Thank you for sharing your feedback. We acknowledge the concerns you have raised regarding your recent sit and the injuries you described experiencing.
The safety and wellbeing of both sitters and pets are important priorities across our platform. Due to member privacy and data protection standards, we are unable to discuss specific account actions, membership decisions, or individual dispute investigations in a public forum. However, our terms and community guidelines are in place to address unexpected challenges, ensure transparency, and outline the responsibilities required of all members when an active sit is disrupted.
We recognise your disappointment with the outcome of this situation and how our support process was perceived. Your feedback has been shared with our team.

It was really easy to set up our account and to post online for a house sitter. All of the first six applicants would have been suitable and we were really reassured by the whole process. The communication with the sitter we selected was very good and she did a great job, which left us to have a relaxing holiday without any worries.

Happy with our first sitters

We had a very good first experience with Trusted Housesitters. It made us three week trip to Italy possible with little worry about our dog, Sammy.
My only concern was that, when I had initial questions, virtual chats were not able to answer them completely. I recommend the option to speak to a live person, especially for a first set up.

2.5 years 9 Sits.. no complaints

We have been using the platform since September 2024. It is a wonderful platform.. we have had lesser experiences with specific sits, and have learnt how to improve out communication accordingly.
It is important to understand that there will be cultural differences to consider when coming into other people's houses.
My children were 10 and 12 when we started and entering our 3rd year and finalising our 9th sit, it is remarkable to see how this has impacted them. Their cultural awareness, confidence with various animals and joy in experiencing travel, road trips and getting to know perfect strangers.
We love Trusted Houssitters and recommend the platform over and over.
