Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 368 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Customers frequently complained about extremely poor customer service, exceptionally long phone hold times, and completely unhelpful communication channels when trying to reach support agents. People also experienced deeply frustrating payment delays, unexpected account and check holds, alongside unresponsive branch staff during their regular visits. Some reviewers were happy with individual staff members who provided kind and professional assistance during challenging banking visits. These specific employees successfully resolved difficult problems, offered great personal support, and genuinely made a positive difference for those customers. A few consumers noted that these helpful interactions helped them avoid major financial losses or successfully clear up disputes.

I have become very dissatisfied with truist customer service. I opened an account at a different bank and attempted to clise my truist account. I went in person with my government issued id and was told i could not close the account. I still have almost $100 in the account which i now cannot access. Account frozen. Had to contact CFPB. Terrible bank.

Truist Bank the bank that has no customer service but can generate a lot of fees

Truist has a policy where you can deposit a check and get funds available that day so I made a deposit and opted to get the funds available immediately. I had another deposit that I made right after the first one that was available immediately. They charged me $2.58 to have the funds right away and the second check I deposited didn’t have the option of getting the funds the same day. I call Truist line for mobile banking and a recording come on asking if I was over 50 years old I could bet a free gift if I pressed one. I stayed on the line thinking it would go to customer service….I waited and a recording starts about a free medical alert device so I hung up. Call again and the recording says press pound to opt out. I pressed pound the recording started again. I hang up and call again so this time I press 0 and the recording starts again. No matter what a customer does on the 18882206654 you are going to hear this recording about the medical alert device. I can another number to the bank and told her about the recording and she didn’t have a clue what I was talking about. I explained to her that I had made 2 deposits and the first was available immediately and the second one didn’t have that option. I told her that I would like to either have both available immediately or just do regular deposits on both and she told me that they can’t do that. I said your the bank why can’t you make that change…she said we can’t do that on mobile deposits. I asked any do you have a number for issues with mobile banking if you can’t change mobile issues. It is amazing to me what crap we have to put up with just to have a business checking account. Truist Bank should just go out of business because the aren’t here to help the customer they are here to take advantage of customers. You can’t even email anyone at Truist Bank….but the do offer AI emails sometimes but most of the time it is not available. If you get the opportunity to leave an email or text then AI doesn’t have a clue how to help the customer. Truist Bank is worthless and I am going to close my account because all they want is to add fees for their benefit.

I started banking at BB&T 40 years ago

I started banking at BB&T 40 years ago. I stayed with BB & T after it became Truist. Almost all of my banking is currently done on line. Having to contact customer service to ask a question, I called an 800 number. This was a painful, time consuming, lesson in patience and frustration. The person who assisted me would be considered ESL (English as a second language). Aside from the fact that she had such a strong accent, she sounded like she was in a crowded high school cafeteria. I begged her to repeat herself a dozen times because of all of the background noise.
BB&T was a first rate bank when I first opened an account. Truist is a third rate institution that I would advise future customers to run, do not walk, to any other banking facility.

No concern for customer privacy at all.

I used to help my father in law whit his banking. We have since gone our separate ways but I still receive his bank correspondence via emails. It has been three years of me calling the bank asking to remove my email, update his or send him a letter for him to verify his account information. Truist bounces my calls around and tells me there is nothing they can do. Meanwhile my father in law has no idea his information is getting sent tot he wrong person.
This bank is absolutely horrible and if you are with them I would recommend finding a bank that actually cares about their customers and not just collecting fees.

THEY STOLE MY MONEY!!!

I recently opened a business checking account with Truist Bank through a branch manager, Frederico. After opening the account, the bank attempted to withdraw fees while simultaneously placing a verification hold on deposits. Because only the initial $100 deposit was in the account, this resulted in multiple $36 returned payment fees being charged. I was never informed of these fees, nor was I notified of any overdraft activity. I did not authorize overdraft coverage, and no communication—email, text, or phone—was provided. Nearly two weeks later, I discovered that approximately $300 in fees had accumulated. When I contacted the bank, I was told I should have received documentation outlining the fee structure, which I did not. Despite acknowledging this, the representative refused to refund any fees. Attempts to reach the branch manager have gone unanswered. Additionally, the negative balance now voids the $400 promotional incentive, which was a primary reason for opening the account (Looks like a Bait and Switch). The lack of transparency, communication, and accountability—especially for a new client—is unacceptable. Charging significant fees without proper disclosure or notification raises serious concerns about the bank’s practices and good faith. At this point, I am filing formal complaints with the appropriate regulatory agencies and possibly closing the account. DO NOT OPEN AN ACCOUNT WITH TRUIST. I also read they are going out of business and closing massive branches. STAY AWAY FROM TRUIST BANK! Now I understand why so many people on the internet are giving bad reviews and leaving them...I guess this is why I hear they are closing so many branches...THEY LITERALLY STOLE MY MONEY...and all this within the first two weeks of opening an account with them.

Truist Bank refuses to close a savings account

My brother had a savings account with Truist when he passed away, intestate, in Israel. To assist his widow who is my sister-in-law, I asked what documentation they required to close the account and send the contents to wife, his beneficiary. They gave me a list of documents and I provided all they asked for, but they demanded more. I provided those and they wanted them notarized by an American notary! Who knew but I found an attorney who was a licensed notary in New York and he notarized the package. That wasn't enough so I sought assistance from the State of Marylanjd Comptroller, where he opened the account. Nothing. Then I went to the FDIC which claims oversight over banks, zip. They claimed the bank had been reasonable and directed me to go back to the bank. This is going on four years and Truist is still collecting interest off the contents of the account.

DIFFICULTY ACCESSING ACCOUNT

I have always had great difficulty accessing my auto loan account online or through the TRUIST app. This is unsatisfactory for an auto loan of this magnitude. This bank has no problem posting my payment of $1K plus each month. Where is the money going? I can never access my statement, and with today's technology, I should not have to call and go through the prompts to eventually get nowhere. Bad customer service.

The Truist Bank Stonecrest Mall…

The Truist Bank Stonecrest Mall location in Lithonia GA. Their customer service is terrible. I always have to wait a long time for service and their executive staff needs to do something about it. It’s the only location in the area and only one or two employees is there trying to service people. It’s just so frustrating to go to that bank. I think I’m going to transfer my account to another bank

This is absolutely the worst bank…

This is absolutely the worst bank around. I'm trying to move my money to a non-Truist business bank account and they only allow $5000 and want to charge $3 for every transfer. Fine, so I set up $5000 today, $5000 the next day and the rest on day 3.

I get an email the next day saying they cancelled my transfer because I'm trying to move too much money one one day. So I go to the website and try again to transfer $5000 today. I get an error that I'm trying to move more than $5000, but I'm literally putting in $5000.

I call there customer service and it's joke to try and talk to a human. They eventually hung up on me. I now need to go to a branch and get my entire account bank out to me in a check.

I will be moving all of my funds out of this bank. Do not use this bank.

Horrible service went into the Fairfax branch. Javier Lane I believe. They refused to cash my payroll checks and treated me like I was committing fraud. Meanwhile my fellow employee cashed his with no account(same as me) with no issues. Maybe it’s the area and my complexion that didn’t sit right.

I reported fraud for my account somehow…

I reported fraud for my account somehow money was being stolen through Zelle and the people who did deposited a check into my account which was returned. No charges or anything. Then they closed all my accounts and opened new accounts but I had to go inside the bank to get cash which would’ve been cool until the fraud case was over. Then I go inside to get cash and all the new accounts are blocked so they have thousands of dollars which I have no access to ! On top of that all money that was normally deposited with square are in limbo land because the accounts have been froze. Now I’m racking up late fees like crazy all behind my account being jeopardized poor customer service with no answers hopefully they’ll release my funds soon so I can pay my bills. I will never bank with Truist again. It should be called “Fakest “

If I could score a zero I would

If I could score a zero I would. Truist customer service is the worse ever and they don't stick by their customer. For the first time in my life I disputed a charge on my credit card for dog grooming. they cut my dog open an I had to pay to get a collar and medicine so she doesn't lick it. She is 13 and now hides under the bed which she has never done before but Truist said " I received the merchandise requested". I didn't request my dog to be cut open.

I've been a client since the days of First Virginia Bank. I went through all the mergers and BB&T ect, ect. Now we come to good Ole Truist. It has been one problem after another. I'm not going to get into details but I will tell you this. You are not going to get anything resolved over the phone do to out sourcing over seas. I'm also tired of talking to people named "ANDY." I'm done with these "CLOWNS." I think it's time to join a better circus.
