Train cancelled due to strike. No other trains available all day. Refused to refund me. Raised dispute through bank and they tried to block refund. Fortunately the bank won. Absolute crooks.

Paid for a train ticket to Viareggio
Paid for a train ticket to Viareggio, made us get off TWO stations before the arrival and said we will have to take the bus in front of the train station to arrive at the destination. We have been waiting for HOURS with no bus coming yet we had to pay the full ticket to the destination. Big f you to trenitalia, absolute thieves.
Absolutely Horrible Experience
Absolutely Horrible Experience — Never Again
This was by far the worst experience I’ve ever had on a train. I will never use Trenitalia again.
First, we accidentally bought the wrong ticket without realizing. While that part was our mistake, we explained the situation to the staff and were met with some of the rudest and least understanding people I’ve ever encountered. They charged us $58 each for being on the wrong train — even though it was a 5-minute ride and we were honest about the mistake.
Then, the next day, we tried to use Trenitalia with a Eurail pass for the first time. The woman at the station sold us the tickets and told us we were fully set to board. At no point did she mention that we had to activate the Eurail pass for the day — a critical step for the pass to be valid.
Once on the train, the attendant checked our tickets and told us there was a problem — the pass wasn’t activated. To activate the pass, you had to click a single button in the app. We explained the situation again and told him this was our first time using the pass. He refused to let us activate it on the spot, despite the fact we had PAYED for the pass, and instead charged us a $100 fee.
The entire experience felt like a scam — they prey on tourists making small mistakes just to squeeze more money out of them. Staff were unhelpful, rude, and showed zero empathy.
Rome termini platform numbering is…
Rome termini platform numbering is rubbish. 2 est is nowhere near 2, over the other side od the tracks then 10mins walk. Platform announced just 10 mins before departure so no time for messing about. Very nearly got onto the wrong train then had to sprint to catch ours. Trenitalia should have enough clout with the station to insist on renumbering - how about A & B for the two rogue platforms?
Missed the train in rome today because…
Missed the train in rome today because the frecciarossa from naples arrived late. Had to buy a new ticket and ask8ng f9r refund for the one i missed because of them. Crazy! Monopoly culture of a crap company!
Most unprofessional service in the EU
Our first local train never showed up. Another train got us to Milan in time for a last minute departure on an expensive high-speedtrain. The train person watched us run up to the train. They then stepped into the train locked the door and gave me the finger. Most unprofessional service in the EU. If you can avoid them, DO!!
I’d give zero stars if an option
I’d give zero stars if an option.
Paid for business class which was terrible in every way. Complete rip off, take any other form of transportation if you can.
Train from Bari to Rome had no room for baggage. Out carry on size bags had to be forced into the over head storage space.
The isle was blocked with many larger bags.
Strike
We had a train on a strike day. The customer service people had a just a paper that said which ones were good and which ones were not. Then when we talked to someone they didn’t seem certain. Also if you’re going to cancel trains you have a replacement with bus or ferry. Also we’re in the 21st century we’re the receipt say save paper but you don’t have a screen that says what’s going on. Also what I would have done is emailed people to say we will give you money back or here’s your replacement. Also lining in a massive line was more efficient than the stupid ticket thing.
Horrible like no other place
We came for the Imola race. The trains had also a delay of minimum 30-60min. They were also overpacked. You know you have a huge event once a year here, put more trains on those dates, not only 4 per hour. We has to wait more than an hour to get in a train because of the huge lines, although we had booked tickets and had been there earlier.
Reassigned Seats and NO COMMUNICATION
We have been travelling for over 4.5 weeks and using trains throughout Europe, like usual we paid for seats from Rome to Naples - got on and settled in our assigned seats to be asked to move as apparently all seats were reassigned! No email, no call, no text and NO COMMUNICATION! we could not relocate all our suitcases and therefor had no choice but to sit in the door access on the steps, we tried asking for help, but no one was able to assist due to not being able to speak ENGLISH!
Slowest and pathetic Service
Customer service is very very slow and bad. There are total 11 counters of which only 5 are working and those are really slow. We had to wait for about 50 minutes to wait for our number. Because of this, we missed 2 trains. We couldn’t do seat reservations online as it was required and were unable to their self service systems as well. It doesn’t work with eurail pass. This has been the pathetic train service and customer service till now in any part of the world.
Train strike ruined family event.
My train 25522 on May 6th 2025 never arrived due to the strike leaving me stranded in Milan for hours and missed a the family event that was our reason for being in Europe. Staff at the station provided no useful information and couldn’t tell us when or if a later train would arrive or if there would be room on that train for the many now stranded people. Additionally the departure board never listed the train as canceled but merely late and listed the next train as on time even though it never came. We eventually booked another train via SBB but it was too late to attend the event. We later learned that many of my son’s classmate studying abroad with him missed their return flight when Trenord left them stranded in Como San Vitale. I will never ride Trenitaliia nor Trenord again!
This company is a joke and one of the reasons of Italian rediculus transport system
Me and my girlfriend visited Italy this weekend and while the food and sites were nice, the transport, including Trainitalia needs an improvement.
I bought 2 tickets from Desenzano Garda to Milano Centrale for 05/05/2025 at 17:23 and paid 68 EUR for those tickets.
The Trainitalia train was delayed and we had to take the train from Italotreno as we would be delayed otherwise from our flight. We paid another 60 EUR for the Italotreno.
As a result, we did not use the tickets from Trainitalia and asked for a refund. Trenitalia refused any refund telling that it's our problem that we took another train despite that Trainitalia train was ridiculously late and we would be late from our flight if we waited for their ridiculously late train of the rediculus company trainitalia.
Revolting train toilets
I'm not sure if I could use this train company again.
The only two toilets in the train were up to the brim with human waste, solids and liquids.
When I asked the staff onboard the train, the response was, unsurprisingly, a shrug of the shoulders. Not very helpful.
I would post a photo of the toilet but it might be too shocking and I don't want to upset the reader
Undeserved Service
You buy a first class ticket paying over the double of a normal one (138€), with prices keeping increasing since 4 years ago, and then the train misses half the wagons that it should have. Making everyone sit anywhere, having to claim your own paid seat and losing the whole idea of space and calmness for which you decided to purchase a first class ticket in the first place. Incompetent and unprofessional
PLEASE AVOID
PLEASE AVOID . I suffered racist and horrible treatment from Trenitalia staff on my trip today that will stay with me forever . It’s spoilt my whole visit to Italy. Horrific , inhumane treatment is to be avoided at all costs
For now all good
For now all good, there was some confusion about the ticket, but i called and got wonderful, understanding help. It's not the norm for an international callcenter (i called from abroad) to work this reliable!! But now lets see for the journey
Worst train company ever
Worst train company ever. They dont arrive on schedule and if there IS a relevant delay, they give u a bonus instead of your money
The worst service ever
The worst service ever. I paid full price for a business rate ticket, and there is still no way to change it online when the ticket is fully reimbursable, nor can I call them. They will hang on you and tell you no one is available after 1 minute of waiting. Do not trust them.
Very unprofessional staff
Very unprofessional staff, very hostile and racist towards tourists
