The staff on that evening were great, also the morning chef too.
The staff on that evening were great, Zack, Ryan and Kay. They went out of their way to make sure we had a comfortable stay. Breakfast was lovely too, didn't get the chef's name for the morning shift. Would definitely visit again in future when we're down that way.
A great stay on Ladies Day - their busiest weekend
Harley and his supervisor Mary (?) were very helpful, changing our booking when we confirmed my wife could not use stairs to the first floor
We had an absolutely terrible…
We had an absolutely terrible experience with this hotel(Bristol Emersons green) due to their utterly unreasonable and poorly handled arrangements. We genuinely hope no other family has to go through such a horrible ordeal so we are going to share out our experiences here. We strongly advise any family who has booked a Super Room to call ahead and confirm their reservation before setting off.
We booked a Family Super Room for two nights on July 31st. When we arrived to check in at 9:30 PM on August 7th, the receptionist shockingly informed us that the Super Room was overbooked and there were none available for us. ( Is it even acceptable for the website to allow overbooking in the first place? )
Their solution? They claimed there was nothing else they could do except downgrade us to a standard Family Room and offer free breakfast to brush us off. Arriving at 9:30 PM with two tired kids after driving 200 miles from Sheffield, we had no choice but to accept it, our children desperately needed to rest. They were looking forward to all the extra amenities that the Super Room offered, such as Cool fridge, big screen for leisure time etc., and were deeply disappointed to find none of them in the standard room.
To make matters worse, the air conditioning in the room was completely out of order, When we reported this, the staff simply told us that they had called an engineer who hadn't arrived yet, nothing they could do before they arrived, and since there were no other rooms, all they could do was give us a desk fan. We tried opening the window, but the hotel is right next to the M4 motorway—it was far too noisy to sleep. In the end, we had no choice but to shut the windows and spend the night sweating in the hot room.
Our experience with this nationally chain hotel was beyond disgraceful. Not only do they allow overbooking, but their way of "handling" it effectively forces you to accept a downgraded room with a broken AC.
Unable to amend booking
Booked a twin room for 2 adults. Tried online to add a child in manage bookings but only gives option to add breakfast. Dinner or select room. Called customer service and was told booking in non amenable and non refundable. Explained wanting to bring my i8 year old grand daughter. They said not possible. Spoke to hotel reception in poole travelodge and was told they cant amend bookings and has to be done on line. Gave me a customer service tel number which charge 23p per minute but was the same number that said no. Been trying to sort this for 3 days. Prepared to upgrade room told no. Asked for pull out bed said no. Absolutely disgusting that you cant amend a booking. Dont book with them. Customer service and hotel both spoke broken English and had to repeat myself many times. Makes you feel frustrated
Where has customer service gone?

Worst hotel yet
“I came with my family to stay for 2 nights and as soon as I entered hot air immediately hit me, it was around 13°C hotter in the hotel than out and the window wasn’t even able to be opened yet there was 3 fans to aid the horrendous heat, during night we only had 30 minutes of sleep as heat was too bad
Furthermore the room smelt like a hospital and I had to spray my airfreshner to temporarily reduce the smell I then went to the bathroom and there was no lock so I had to pray no one would enter later on there was no handwashing to wash my hands.
Finally night time arrived and the single beds I slept on would creek a lot and I felt like it would give in at anytime but thankfully I survived through the night but the king size bed that my parents were sleeping on was sturdy and comfortable.
No tissues were provided and nor was water also breakfast is too expensive because what do you mean £13.25 was 3 items of our choice alternatively, only 30 minutes of WiFi provided and the WiFi was on and off as well so it was not the best WiFi- my room had no service as well.
Although there were horrible experiences there were pleasant moments such as there room was clean as well as mirrors provided and service was good”
On the plus side they’re generally…
On the plus side they’re generally cheap and clean with okay staff (when they’re not outside smoking). Three gripes; the stupid calendar on their booking site starts on a Sunday 😳, how many people have booked in on the wrong day then had to pay a penalty (is this deliberate??), whatever they clean the cups with is disgusting and makes all teas/coffees undrinkable, and lastly mobile reception seems to be irrationally terrible in some hotels meaning one has to buy their Wi-Fi (again deliberate?).
I’ll keep using them but they co7ld be a lot better!
Clean Room with Great Breakfast
We had a really lovely stay at London Central Elephant and Castle Travelodge. We booked two rooms, and both were impressively clean fresh, tidy, and comfortable, which made settling in super easy after a busy day.
Breakfast was a great surprise too. There was a nice variety of hot and cold options, and everything was well stocked and tasty. It definitely set us up for the day.
The only thing to keep in mind is the lack of on‑site parking. We ended up using the nearby NCP car park, which cost £50 for overnight parking a bit pricey, but at least it was close and convenient.
Overall, Travelodge gave us a smooth, pleasant stay with clean rooms, friendly service, and a solid breakfast. Just plan ahead for parking and you’ll have a great experience.
Travelodge London Peckham
The hotel was very clean.
The room and bathroom were well laid out, they were very minimal, but clearly a lot of thought has gone into the design of the hotel.
We slept very well in the hotel, the bed and bedding were to a high standard.
My criticism is of the bathroom, several times I knocked the soap dispenser to the side of the sink, and it popped open. The shower has no shelf to put your own soap or shampoo. And the shower controls should be labelled, it was not obvious to me how to control the shower.
I would book this hotel again.
Avoid Travelodge if you enjoy at least…
Avoid Travelodge if you enjoy at least the bare minimum customer service.
After searching hotels for the date I needed, I was taking to Travelodge for the date I requested. I booked online. Left the booking page and returned to my basket as advised, due to having blue light discount. When I went back to complete the booking, the date had reset. I didn't notice, and completed the booking for a fixed rate room.
The second I received the booking confirmation, I noticed the date error and immediately tried to find a telephone number. There isn't one to call customer services which should be a big red flag enough. You're directed to a form that could take 5-8 days for a reply (the booking was in 5 days so already up against it).
Having explained to Travelodge that I wasn't requesting a refund or a date change as such, simply to correct the error on the booking that I noticed immediately after receiving the email confirmation.
After multiple emails and phone call to the useless booking line (who apparently their system doesn't allow them to make changes and they couldn't put me through to someone who could), I've been left with a room booked that I can't use, sell or transfer to anyone else.
For the sake of forcing me to book the room for the correct date and making themselves an extra £70, they've lost me as a customer for life. Ridiculous decisions as a company.
Having recently read a story about a lady being bitten by over 100 times by bedbugs in a Travelodge hotel, I actually think I'm dodging a bullet!
Avoid Travelodge until they put customers back as the priority, and not their silly T&C's. What company enjoys making profit at the expense of customers? It's almost like their website is designed to make you "accidentally" make a mistake be flipping the booking date as you move across it's website.
Books a flexi rate room for one night…
Books a flexi rate room for one night for two including 2 evening meals & 2 breakfasts for mid journey break for an expected long drive home, fortunately the traffic was nowhere near as bad as expected so we decided to cancel the booking so called the number for the travelodge only to be told they don’t have the LINK? to do this & to go online to do it!! So I resigned to loosing £58 for the room thinking they wouldn’t,couldn’t charge £59 for meals we obviously wouldn’t be having WRONG they’ve taken the lot !!!! Rang the number customer services only to be told by voice mail to go on their website & send an email & they’d get back to me.Conclusion will NEVER USE TRAVELLODGE AGAIN Dave B
Travelodge's Customer Service Masterclass: Raise Your Voice, Refuse to Help, Hang Up.
I made a booking at approximately 10pm, intending to book a room for the following day. After completing the booking, I realised it had been made for a date one month later instead.
This made no sense because I had searched for the correct dates on Google and followed the link to the Travelodge website, where the date and price already appeared to be populated. As soon as I noticed the error, I tried to contact customer services, but the phone lines had already closed for the night.
I called again the following morning and spoke to an adviser called Ian. Unfortunately, the customer service I received was extremely disappointing. He refused to escalate my concerns or allow me to speak to a supervisor. During the call, he repeatedly raised his voice. I told him I felt he was being aggressive and again asked to be transferred to a supervisor. He refused, continued speaking in the same manner, and ultimately ended the call by hanging up on me.
Mistakes can happen, and I appreciate that discounted rates have restrictions. However, I expected Travelodge to show some understanding given that I attempted to resolve the issue immediately, and I certainly did not expect to be treated in such an unprofessional manner by customer services. The way my complaint was handled was far more disappointing than the booking issue itself.
Decent room, Dreadful WiFi
Decent room, dreadful WiFi
Currently staying at the Travelodge Alfreton. The room is exactly what you’d expect from this hotel brand — basic and functional, no complaints there.
The real issue is the WiFi, supplied by Virgin Media, which is genuinely some of the worst I’ve experienced since the dial-up era. Speeds fluctuate between 2.0 and 5.0 Mbps down, with just 0.8 Mbps up. Virgin’s own business site markets itself as offering “great WiFi” to hotel chains — but at these speeds, that claim doesn’t hold up.
£7 for a 48-hour pass is a fair price on paper, but it’s not fit for purpose when the connection can barely load a webpage, let alone support work or streaming.
Travelodge, it’s time to upgrade this service to something guests can actually rely on. As it stands, the WiFi here just isn’t good enough.
Reading reviews on other hotels in the Travelodge chain, my negative experience repeats itself multiple times.
Here's a section from Virgin's Business website directed at hotel's management :
Quote
"Why choose Virgin WiFi?
Great WiFi in your hotel takes a little more time than setting up a router in the lobby and giving your guests the login details - especially if you want to deliver the levels of service people now expect. Meeting the speed and reliability needs of such a large group of people requires specialist skills and experience.
That's where we come in.
We work closely with some of the country's biggest chains, including Premier Inn and Travelodge to deliver corporate and public WiFi solutions that keep customers connected and operations running smoothly."
End quote.
That smiling receptionist you see on…
That smiling receptionist you see on the TV advert, doesn't work in Macclesfield Central.
The parking in this place was in the council car park, very convenient only 10 yards from the front door, however Macclesfied has the most unusual car parking conditions possible. Max stay 14 hours. So you arrive at 3 o'clock, you can't do anything until you park at 6pm. So drive around maybe, park then disappear for an hour before you're allowed to park again.Macclesfield Car parking by Ringgo is set up to fail. It wouldn't surprise me if I had a ticket because of the time I spent unpaid, while working it out, prior to buying a ticket. Avoid Macclesfield Town centre, the council doesn't want visitors.
So i made a booking at around 2am for…
So i made a booking at around 2am for stoke talke and the payment left my account but no booking confirmation. I have beem told it is a ghost payment because in the early hours of the morning is when they do maintenance on their website. I have phoned there bookings department who could not help me and there favourite phrase is sorry theres nothing we can do. All i wanted was my money back so i can book a hotel. Sent an email to there customer service team which says it takes up to 5 days for a response. I am a vulnerable adult with health problems and without a bes for the night i put my health at risk. I al 200 miles away from home and feel i now have no optiom but to sleep in my car. I have sleep apnea and need a machine for breathing when sleeping. I have been punished for travelodges mistake. Driving 200 miles home without sleep would be putting myself and other motorists at risk and the response i felt was they just dont care.
Poor customer service support
I am really disappointed with the customer service I received when trying to amend my booking. I called the hotel to discuss changing my stay dates and arranging an earlier check-in, but the staff member I spoke to was extremely unhelpful and came across as rude.
During the call, I felt like I was being rushed and was asked how long I was going to take, even though I was simply trying to explain my situation and get assistance. When I asked him to repeat himself because I couldn’t hear what he said, I heard someone laughing in the background, which made me feel very uncomfortable and disrespected.
Customer service is about being patient, understanding, and professional, especially when speaking with guests. It took a lot of courage for me to make that phone call, and unfortunately this experience has made me feel very put off contacting the hotel again.
I expected a much higher level of professionalism and was disappointed by how I was treated. I hope this feedback is taken seriously and that staff are reminded of the importance of treating customers with respect.
Stole my money
Travelodge Tower Bridge. I have booked two rooms, one accessible and one double. We were going to visit London and stay overnight. The reason I chose Travelodge was because of their attractive prices. Little did I know that the prices are so attractive because they are non-refundable and non-amendable. Our disabled person felt very unwell on the day of the travel so we cancelled all our plans to visit the city. When I phoned Travelodge Tower Bridge and explained what happened and asked what options do I have I was told that the room booking is non-amendable and non-refundable regardless of circumstances. They literally stole my money. The result: a) a financial loss; b) I highly encourage you to stay away from Travelodge; c) this is how they make money - by having no empathy to their customers or flexibility in their rates they simply commit to stealing from you; d) if you have no option but to book with Travelodge then make sure that you can make your way to their hotel 146%. But to be honest you will be better off booking elsewhere.
I rarely leave negative reviews
I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel compelled to share my experience with Travelodge's customer service and complaints handling.
This review is not about my stay at Newcastle Quayside, which was perfectly acceptable. It is about the way Travelodge dealt with an obvious booking error and the subsequent complaint.
I already had multiple rooms booked at the same Travelodge for the same weekend under the same name and email address. While adding one additional room, I accidentally selected the following Friday instead of the correct date. I realised the mistake immediately, telephoned Travelodge the same evening and was advised to contact Customer Services online, which I did straight away.
As I was travelling the following day with a group, I had no option but to book the correct room as well to ensure everyone had accommodation.
I fully accepted that I had made the mistake. I wasn't demanding that Travelodge ignore its Saver Rate policy; I simply asked whether, given the obvious circumstances, they would consider a one-off goodwill gesture.
Instead, I received a series of generic responses that simply repeated the Saver Rate policy. At one point, I was even sent an email apologising that I "didn't enjoy my stay"—despite the fact that I had never complained about my stay at all. It demonstrated that my complaint had not been properly understood.
After escalating the matter to the CEO's Office, they acknowledged that previous correspondence had been incorrect, apologised for the confusion and confirmed that my individual circumstances had been considered. However, they still refused to offer any goodwill gesture, despite accepting that the booking error was genuine and had been reported immediately.
What disappoints me most is not the financial loss but the complete absence of flexibility or recognition of customer loyalty. I have used Travelodge regularly over the years and had multiple bookings with them for this trip, yet that counted for nothing.
I appreciate that companies need policies, but good customer service also requires common sense and discretion in exceptional cases. Unfortunately, that was completely lacking here.
As a result of this experience, I have lost confidence in Travelodge and will be using alternative hotel chains in future. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Travelodge's customer service.
