I'm writing to express my extreme frustration and disappointment with Tomato Energy, my current energy supplier. Despite numerous attempts to resolve the issues, I've been met with incompetence and a lack of urgency. The problems I'm experiencing affect three properties, and they include:
1. Delayed bills: I've not received timely bills, making it challenging for me to manage my finances. This has resulted in uncertainty and stress, as I'm unable to accurately plan my expenses. I've had to make assumptions about my energy usage and costs, which has led to budgeting difficulties.
2. Unrefunded payments: I've been waiting for years for refunds that are owed to me, and it's unacceptable that Tomato Energy can't seem to process these payments. I've repeatedly contacted their customer service team, providing all necessary documentation and information, but the issue remains unresolved. This lack of refund has caused me significant financial hardship, as I've been unable to utilize these funds for other essential expenses.
3. Meter issues: I've had issues with meter installation, and Tomato Energy has failed to resolve these problems despite my repeated requests. This has led to inaccurate billing and further financial stress. I've had to spend additional time and effort to rectify these issues, which has been frustrating and demotivating.
Furthermore, I'm also experiencing issues with export charges. Tomato Energy is not paying these charges promptly, and it's taking years to resolve these issues. This lack of payment is causing me significant financial hardship, as I'm unable to benefit from the energy I've generated and exported to the grid.
I've tried to deal with Tomato Energy's customer service team, but they've been unhelpful and unresponsive. I've contacted them multiple times, via phone and email, but my issues remain unresolved. In contrast, British Gas has always been more efficient and easier to deal with. It's clear that Tomato Energy is not capable of managing their customers' accounts effectively.
Given the significant distress and financial hardship caused by Tomato Energy's failures, I believe I should be compensated for the losses I've incurred. Had I not been tied to Tomato Energy, I could have invested my money elsewhere and earned returns. The prolonged delays and lack of resolution have resulted in substantial opportunity costs and financial losses.
I've kept detailed records of all my interactions with Tomato Energy, including dates, times, and details of conversations. I've also documented all correspondence, including emails and letters. I'm willing to provide this documentation to support my complaint.
I urge you to investigate this matter and take necessary actions to resolve the issues I'm experiencing. I'm extremely dissatisfied with the service I'm receiving from Tomato Energy, and I hope that your intervention will bring about a swift resolution.

Fantastic after suffering a terrible experience…
After suffering a terrible experience with Tomato Homes (see previous review) Patrick Day has take over as National Operations Manager for Norther Gas heating which has taken over responsibility for Tomato Homes. Patrick contacted me personally to discuss my problem and in due course generously agreed to replace my entire system with a DNO compliant one.
The service this time was excellent and Paul, Lee and Mick completed the install perfectly. I am now a very happy and satisfied customer :)

I have tried many many times to contact them but to no avail. Useless!

A fantastic way to do your bit for the environment whilst at the same time fixing your electricity costs against future cost increases, BUT BEWARE, their customer service is amongst the worst ever!
A few issues initially but they were resolved. I'm very happy that I have effectively fixed the cost of my electricity for the next 10 years and at the same time am doing my bit to improve the environment too.
That having been said, it would appear that Tomato are in their infancy and they have a long way to go before their customer service levels are what would be expected of a modern organisation. A number of reviewers have mentioned the very poor communications and I would have to agree and I have lost count of the number of people who have promised to get back to me on a specific date and have failed to do so. Overall, I feel that they provide a good product / service but if they plan to be in the market for the longer term then significant improvements to their customer service processes need to be undertaken.

May 23 i had a £22,000 4.8kw and 30kw battery storage - APRIL 2024, they are still not functioning properly and customer service and owners have given up, In this time the inverter caught fire and fire service made them safe , the battery was changed and still the same issue HUGE discharging each day, tomato can’t solve it , the panels took 4 attempts to start working - it goes on they are only good at taking money off you. today i start legal action against them

Had my car charger fitted by Tomato Homes, they were very professional and courteous. All work has been carried out to a very high standard and all mess was cleaned up after themselves and my property was left as they found it. The Engineer went through the app with me and showed me how the equipment worked and how to see and compare figures from the charging periods.

Solar panels and battery installed for free!
If you’ve come to trust pilot to see if the tomato energy offer for free solar panels and a battery for a fixed energy price for 10 years is too good to be true! Then you’re in the right place. I was sceptical to begin with as I was certain this offer was too good to be true but after signing up and a surveyor coming round the house we were booked in for installation in no time.
Rory and Leighton came to install the battery and all the electrical work needed and we cannot fault them. They were friendly throughout the 2 days they were here installing, they even insisted on cleaning up after themselves even though they had finished late on the Friday evening to ensure everything was working correctly before leaving.

Tomato Energy
Tomato Energy is a very good company with excellent staff. I met with six solar companies, and key to my decision in placing with order with Tomato Energy was Dave Malbon who answered all my questions quickly and honestly. Once the order was placed he arranged for Jonathon (Surveyor) to inspect my property and decide on the locations for the Invertor,
Battery pack, solar panels and the electrical cable runs. The installation team of Rawindra and Carlos did an excellent job, the 10 panel system (3.6kW) was installed and commissioned in less the 2 days. On the technical front I called Tomato Energy and spoke with Paul Morton who was able to monitor my system performance remotely, he confirmed the system was working well and it was reassuring the technical backup from Tomato Energy was readily available. I received a comprehensive documentation package prepared by Sam comprising, MCS certificate, DNO response, Electrical certification, and Building Regulations certificate. This was accepted by my energy provider, so that I can now export any surplus energy. The whole project from start to finish in less than 2 months.

We had our PV system (4.8 kW panels+ 10 kWh battery) installed 3 months ago by Tomato Homes. Though there was a bit of a difficult start to get the system up and running, I want to praise Tomato Homes for the fast installation from the first commercial contact to completion. Now everything is finally working admirably. I’m absolutely pleased with the system.
A massive thank to Garuda, from the commercial team (who clearly deserves 6 stars!) for his constant support all along the installation process. He really above and beyond in terms of customer support. We also want to thank to the electrical engineer who sorted out our nasty cabling issue.
Garuda’s recommendation to go for a HV battery and a 5 kW inverter is paying off as it brings massive benefits on our system daily experience.
The system has already considerably reduced our monthly bill even in this cloudy month of October.
I think the settings to control the battery minimum and maximum state of charge could be improved for a finer tuning of the system to fit our usage profile. I really hope Hypontech will bring this improvement in a near future.
