Stay Away From Thousand Trails
As soon as signed up for a membership, it became nearly impossible to get anyone at Thousand Trails to answer the phone. And it became nearly impossible to reserve a site at one of their member campgrounds.
Thousand Trails blames it on the campgrounds and the campgrounds blame it on Thousand Trails.
Bottom line, your money will be gone and you will have nothing to show for it.
Company is absolutely horrible
Company is absolutely horrible. Some of the worst customer service I've ever dealt with. 20 minute wait on chat and they can't do much and tell you to call. Then over an hour wait on call and they never even called.
Resevation system is a joke. If you are a member and try to reserve, good luck. Most sites are sold out. Then log out and try and you'll see they have spots. They have it set so only a few members can gets spots, the rest they hold for people paying. So what's the point of paying for a Thousand Trails membership if you can't use it where you want.
Then you have the Trails Collection add on for another $450 and they don't prorate it for the year. So if you buy in June, you only get 6 months. And you can't pay online, you have to request it and wait days for someone to call you so you can pay over the phone.
Truth is Thousand Trails sucks. They need to sell the whole thing and let another group take it over and run it. This is not worth the month. Just save your money and make your own reservations. You'll get the spots you want and won't get frustrated with all the run around.
Cannot Book a Site and Customer Service Refuses Calls
I honestly cannot believe how frustrating it is to try to use Thousand Trails.
Every time we try to book a campsite, the system throws errors. It does not matter what park, what date, or how many times we try. The booking system simply does not work reliably. You spend time searching for locations, pick your dates, go through the process, and then it fails. Over and over again.
So naturally you try to call customer service.
That is where things get even worse.
Instead of speaking to someone who can actually help, the phone system just says they are too busy to take the call and then it hangs up on you. No option to wait. No callback. No support. Just disconnected.
When you pay for a membership service that is supposed to make camping easier, the last thing you expect is a system that blocks you from making reservations and a support line that refuses to answer calls.
Right now the experience feels like paying for access to something that is nearly impossible to use.
If Thousand Trails wants to keep members happy, they need to fix two things immediately.
First, make the reservation system actually work without constant errors.
Second, provide real customer support instead of a phone line that just hangs up on paying members.
Until those issues are fixed, the experience is extremely disappointing.
To Eva and Dave #12. Awesome time with my little ones.
Hi. I am a family of 7 (all 5 little ones) in California in the central valley and we are just 1st timers looking for a place to rv for my sons 9th birthday and so we took him out to Thousand trails at Lake is the springs. we do not have any membership or anything like that except a reservation for 2 nights at lake of the springs in Feb 2025. For some reason, we couldn't check into the night of the campground on the day before of our reservation due to some website issues and confusion. We wanted to go early as possible so we can choose the best and suitable campsite for our family before the weekend where it will get busy and best spots will be taken. with this being said, we did initially scouted before we drove out there few days before the reservations (this was before the new regulations took effect). However we took a gamble and drove there with our new RV on the day before our reservation. when we got there, it was afterhours. however, luckily there was a kind lady by the name of Eva, who works there and was gonna leave for the night, office was closed already. we drove about 1 hour to get to this location and wouldn't been a bummer to drive back home with the RV and the whole family. we asked the nice lady there to see if we can check into our camp place without checking into the system. Eva was very understanding and kind to us; be mindful that by this time it was already dark. she allowed us to go get checked into our campsite and get settled in and we can come back up to the office in the AM to get checked in and just pay for the prior night. me and my family was very pleased and grateful to her. so the next morning, I went back up to the office and made my payment for the night before check in day. Then also met with a gentleman named Dave#12 and it was such a good greeting and communication with this man as I was getting checked in and so I wanted to acknowledge this man as well. So to the employees by the name of Eva and Dave #12. Thank you to the two of you. My sons 1st birthday trip to this location was awesome and perfect. Thank you. I Hope that management will recognize your guy's efforts and service.
I apologize that it took me 1 year to make this review but I want to recognize her for her kind service.
Been trying to cancel membership for a…
Been trying to cancel membership for a while now. No one gives the same info and no one will cancel the membership. Just keep getting run around and the membership auto renews.
Look at the spots and try to get ahold of aperson before you make your choice
I had thousand trails because I live in my RV year round. There was a park I wanted for a long term stay aka more than 2 weeks!! and was told in order to even make a reservation I needed a pass. I get the membership and the reservation terms for long term stays is officially booked out for the next year!!!!!!!!!! So, I try to cancel my pass as that was the only reason I wanted it, with a two your commitment and understanding I had only had it for two weeks time and explained the situation and they still had to get their money and wouldn't cancel. Nor could the front desk person of the park I wanted to stay at could of just said " even if you get it were booked" which would of been the honest and nice thing to do as I explained to her that place would be the reason I got it to begin with. Then its finally actually been more than two years a very kind costumer service girl cancels it for me. They then took 3 weeks to respond to an email, I had sent a response back. Its already been handled and then another person sends a snide email about how it will end and at this date because of the contract and I don't owe any more money. To speak to someone is hard, and there was literally only maybe two people I did speak to that had actual costumer service and were kind. I would really look around as I said its hard to get ahold of any human and once you sign up even if its a week after and you call they will just continue to take your money. I paid 62.56 every month for two years never stayed at one site and when I had called to stay in the Vegas location the one time, in all the time I had it and considered using it. They never returned my phone call and when I called back again and spoke to someone again rude. Asking questions because I had never used the pass and never did. It was a big waste of money and highly recommend looking into other site places such as KOA
Worst decision we ever made
Worst decision we ever made. try to schedule campgrounds and they are all full, except for some public sites which we would have to pay for. they sell you a bill of goods then don't follow thru. they are as useless as tits on a bull.
Slow and unacceptable customer service
We bought a membership, and paid 1,688 dollars upfront. My husband passed away 10 days later. I asked for cancellation and refund. They continued to bill me 280 per month. 23 months after my request for cancellation and refund I was told they would cancel but no refunds.
Annual Sites and Locations
My problem with Thousand Trails is the annual sites and the locations of where the sites are. They only have annual sites for RV's in certain regions of the country and not for the owners of the RV's during the wintertime which to me doesn't make any sense. Do people go camping in the winter? Of course! There are many private campgrounds that have year-round camping in the northern U.S and they're full during the winter but it's hard to get into them because they're full. So why not open it up for the winter in these regions? Very simple, if it's 5000 or 6000 dollars for the RV and not the owners per year in these northern regions, just make it 12,000 including the owners! Very simple, there are people who would pay for it, I am one of them.
STAY AWAY from Thousand Trails
My experience with Thousand Trails has been extremely disappointing. I purchased a membership believing I would have access to their advertised campgrounds. After joining, I found that there are no available sites anywhere I want to travel. Their website is outdated, some of the parks they advertise are not even open, and the information they provide is misleading.
When I contacted customer service, I was told I needed to call every time I wanted to make a reservation. Each call resulted in excuses and options that had nothing to do with the locations I actually wanted. At one point, a representative shrugged it off with “oh well,” which told me everything I needed to know about how little they care.
They refuse to refund my money even though the membership is completely unusable. This feels deceptive and unethical. They encouraged me to expand my membership, yet even with that upgrade I could not book anything.
I would strongly warn others to stay away from Thousand Trails. In my experience, they do not deliver what they promise, and they do not take responsibility when their product does not work.

I have been a member for over 3 years
I have been a member for over 3 years, I need to go to S CA for work. The last 2 years I have been unable to reserve a spot as they were "full". This is Wilderness Lakes in Menifee, CA. I always call but there are no spaces. I was told if I wanted to pay full price (as if I wasn't a member), there were plenty of open sites. This park is a mess with weeds, broken water, sewer and electrical, if you get a reservation you have to test all those before you get into a spot. A lot of sites are empty and if you can get in you can usually extend your stay (to the extent of your membership parameters). 3 years ago there wasn't enough power to run my a/c, when I asked about it, I was told they needed to upgrade the electrical system (still hasn't been done)? Customer service was rude and had no desire to hear my complaints or try to help me. I now home base in Texas, stay tuned for a report on how those TT parks are.
Surprised Long Tern Members…
We’re Thousand Trails member nationwide in 1980s. Resorts were clean many new, and well maintained. There were limited sites in country at time so couldn’t use when we left. But I Was shocked how unkept it is now. Old broken shower and bathrooms. Idyllwild in CA, has the same broken now, old furniture from the 1980s. Staff at many aren’t very nice. Good luck reaching personnel on phone. at resorts. On holidays they have NO support. I’ll keep complaining until they improve. But TTs membership includes many locations with nationwide. They were nice places in Tennessee and Texas.
Can’t get a camping spot.
We bought a camping pass and trails collection for 2024/2025 in September. We live in SW Florida. Try getting into a decent Encore or Thousand Trails RV park from December to March, which is prime camping season. You won’t get a spot. Some campgrounds are decent, others are run down trailer parks. A lot of the times the amenities don’t work and they say that they just broke yesterday. We tried to get our money back, but we missed the cancellation window. I would not recommend Thousand Trails !
Feel I was misled & scammed by my purchase
I bought a membership through a fairly new campground & it was not at all clear that I was buying a two-year membership. It was also not clear that it would be extremely hard to make reservations for just a couple of nights at a time (I was told later than you cannot do that through the website, but rather you need to call in: I was never informed). The end result is that i am paying $70/month for something I have been unable to use. I thought I was purchasing the ability to stay at Florida campgrounds, but only two were available for basic members. I think that this is a scam & I do not have a history of writing bad reviews, but this was done in a very unfair and misleading manner. I would definitely advise against getting a membership.
Greedy Company - Memberships are Oversold
Thousand Trails Memberships are a huge scam. They oversell the memberships and are unapologetic when you can't get a reservation to the campgrounds in your zone.
They say there is a satisfaction guarantee or your money back. Another scam. Read the fine print. You won't get in to a campground, and you won't get your money back. Also, good luck trying to speak to a real person. Biggest waste of money out there.

Ugh cancelled membership within 12 hours after discovering what is promised on the main ad pages are not actually true and you cannot get that detailed information until you sign up. Despite cancelling it they kept trying to charge my debit card.
The most unfriendly rude RV resort
We stayed at Tropical Palms RV Resort in Kissimmee, Florida. This placed is managed by thousand trails RV as far as making a reservation. Tropical Palms RV Resort was the most unfriendly and rude place we stayed at. Mainly from the check in guards when coming in and out of the RV park. We were not impressed either where the location of the RV Park. The area and road to use to get to the entrance was very run down and shady looking and a lot of what appeared to be homeless people.
