Not the best for stationery, considering it's a stationery store! Very limited materials for crafting, beyond wooden boxes and canvases. Not bad for notebooks, but other than that, I don't feel like... See more

Sophie is the best
Ive just been served by the most amazing girl called Sophie within the work- bromborough.
Sophie went completely out of her way to help me plan a leavers shirt for my daughter, the advice and time offered was just so lovely!
Thank you so much Sophie, you are a credit to both your parents and the store!

Purchased an activity pack for my son…
Purchased an activity pack for my son who is 3.5 years old, the pack say 3 years and over. The pack in it self was ok, the snap cards are something else, too many for a 3 year old but my main concern is the stickers. What 3 year old does not put stickers on themselves, while we were getting ready for a night out he had covered himself with the stickers. Hardly any came off, we had to bath him in water but that just took the pictures off and left the sticky stuff on his skin, we then tried oil to get them off. He was left with red marks all over his body for days.
I contacted Thw Works and all they said was it clearly states on the pack not to be applied to the skin ( the writing is so small I had to use a magnifying glass to read it) they also said that they had check the stickers and they passed quality control. There is no way this was checked. I put a sticker on myself for the same amount if time and it also caused my skin to turn red for 3 days.
I will never ship in The Works again. They have offered no compensation and no help what so ever.
Horrible shop with horrible products in there
The experience was deeply disappointing…
The experience was deeply disappointing and fell far below the standards I would expect from The Works.
Upon asking a member of staff whether a particular book series was in stock, I was met with the response: "Well, have you looked?" This was said in a manner that was both dismissive and unprofessional. I had already looked, but as books are displayed across multiple areas, I simply wanted assistance to ensure I had not overlooked them. Instead of receiving support, I was made to feel as though my request was an inconvenience.
When I explained that I had looked but was seeking help, I was told, "If you can't see them, we don't have them." Again, the tone and attitude were completely unacceptable. Basic customer service should involve checking stock systems or offering guidance, not speaking to customers in a rude or condescending manner.
I then asked if a manager was available. The staff member confirmed there was, but when I requested to speak with them, she questioned why. Only after I insisted did her demeanour change, and she suddenly offered to check the computer for stock something that should have been done from the outset without the need for escalation.
Unfortunately, the interaction with the manager did little to restore confidence. I did not feel that they demonstrated strong communication or leadership skills, nor did they appear particularly concerned about the behaviour I had reported.
Overall, the customer service I received was extremely poor. While I appreciate that The Works offers competitive pricing, I did not expect the service to reflect the same level of "cheapness." Respect, professionalism, and basic courtesy should never be compromised.
I would appreciate confirmation that this matter will be addressed appropriately, including any steps taken to ensure staff receive the necessary training to prevent similar incidents in future.

I would not recommend this workplace…
I would not recommend this workplace due to the highly unprofessional conduct of certain team leaders and managers. Employees who raise legitimate concerns are subjected to bullying and intimidation, and management does not respond appropriately when challenged.
In particular, I have serious concerns about the conduct of a shift manage as well as unsafe practices

Bought a book with app. App is not available anymore. Scam
This company scams you
This company scams you. it takes your money for a gift card and then does not honour the gift card when it is presented. It is tantamount to theft, and the customer service department would be as well swimming up stream in a waterfall because they are useless.
Refused a Refund in store
I was not given a receipt and was refused a refund in store. The products are in perfect condition that I want a refund for, if necessary I’ll contact Gavin Peck the CEO regarding this complaint,

So angry that The Works will no longer…
So angry that The Works will no longer provide even a click and collect service. I suffer with severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and other chronic conditions and books both fiction and non-fiction are my main coping mechanism. If I can get to a store which is not often, I cannot stay for too long due noise level, constant movement etc. It's rare that I find all the books that I want when I do go in, and the website doesn't even allow for checking which branch does stock what you're looking for. As I could order what I wanted and knew that I would get it 'Click and collect' or home delivery were perfect, although home deliveries were never 100%. I am a long standing customer of The Works and the staff in my nearest branch (Worcester) have always been helpful and some have been lovely re my health issues. Those who made the decision to end 'click and collect' and home delivery have not given one iota of consideration towards those with significant health challenges in visiting a physical store. It is 2026 not 1926 and The Work's as a company should be ashamed of themselves for not having an alternative option for those with disabilities in this day and age.
EXCELLENT SERVICE
I went to the Ashford Kent store this morning. As the car parking situation in the town is now awful I had a limited time to shop. I am very sad that we can no longer order on line. However when I could not find what I had gone in for a lovely lady staff member offered to go and look in the stock room. She soon returned with the five packets of pens I needed. I am so grateful not to have had a wasted journey. As always the staff were superb. Thank, you.
I've purchased lots of art material from The Works
I've purchased lots of art materials from The Works for my daughter's school using their internet site. Very good value art materials
Sadly they have terminated this service and I will have to find an alternative as I'm unable to carry £30/40 worth of art materials from my local shop.

Taplow store staff are brilliant!
Just went to the Taplow store today. There was one member of staff who was so lovely and helpful, the extra effort she went to really made my day and I was only after an extra roll of sellotape! Thank you.
End of click and collect is a SAD DAY :(
Just had an email to say no more click and collect for books (that's the only thing I use The Works for). And on contacting them you won't even be able to order the titles you want from a store. My nearest stores are over 10 miles away and have limited paperbacks so I have always surfed all the titles on line and click and collected them from store. This is so disappointing, probably won't be travelling all that way to store to find no titles I really want.
Edit: I'm still being bombarded by emails from them telling me about products and what is the point of this when the nearest stores to me only stock a small range of anything?
Can't believe they are closing their…
Can't believe they are closing their website for ordering. It's the only place you can actually get what you're looking for. The shops never stock the books in the stores. Same with their craft supplies, always got them online, never in store. Slightly old fashioned to close a website while stores are still open with only a fraction of the good stock. Disappointed I now need to spend my money on other websites.
