I appreciate the self- directed nature of this program. The way the course content is delivered, the tutor and direct messaging system, and the flexibility are all positives in my experience.
However, Module 4 was completely disappointing. I was able to complete the module thanks to Alyssa Nga on Youtube and her step by step videos about using the design software 'SketchUp' for the IDI Module 4. I think it is The Interior Design Institute's responsibility to teach students how to use interior design software as we are paying for an education. I think this is a major gap in the course content.

For a self-guided online learning platform, which is exactly what I was looking for to suit my situation, the courses are robust and excellently crafted. I feel like I’m coming away with a lot of new theoretical knowledge and practical skills that will serve me well in as an Interior Designer. And I don’t feel like I’m doing it alone, I’ve had to reach out for support and the helpful staff as well as my tutor have always responded quickly. I’m really pleased with my experience overall—what you put into it is what you get out of it, and I’m happy to say I’m learning a lot. No regrets about signing myself up, well done IDI!

I've always wanted to learn interior design. First and foremost, it's for myself, so I can make my home cozy. I hope I'll be able to earn some extra money doing this after I finish the course.

I absolutely love taking this course. It’s taught me so much about thinking and working like an interior designer. I’m excited to take this course and bring it to life with all the practical works I’ve learnt.

The flexibility has allowed me to complete this course along side my current job and busy schedule with young kids. The modules and assignments are full of useful information. Had to try a few of the recommended programs for creating a floor plan before I found one that worked for me, so more guidance through that piece would have been helpful. Otherwise having a great experience!

The Interior Design Institute is an excellent online learning program for anyone looking for a flexible, self-paced course. I am almost halfway through my modules, and I have learned so much. It’s been equal parts challenging and rewarding. If you are looking to start a course about interior design, I’d highly recommend the Interior Design Institute.

The way the course is laid out is very user friendly. Although it’s all online and self guided, your tutor give you specific and detailed feedback on each assignment submitted which helps clarify and make your next assignment even better

As a student at The Interior Design Institute (IDI), I’ve had a productive journey. I wanted to share a balanced look at the program for those considering enrolling.
✅ The Pros:
Learn at your own pace: This is a huge advantage. The flexibility allowed me to fit my studies around my life without any pressure. There are also ways of prolonging the time frame if needed.
Comprehensive Overview: The course provides a very good general overview of the interior design world and its core principles.
Responsive Support: I was impressed by the fast response times from both the staff and my tutor. You never feel ignored when you have a question.
❌ The Cons:
Text-Heavy Format: Almost all core materials are written. It was disappointing that videos on specific topics require an additional fee; I would have preferred more video-based teaching in the main curriculum.
Lack of Direct Interaction: You never actually get to talk to your tutor. All communication is written, and I believe a few live conversations would have added immense value.
Independent Research & Practicality: There is still a lot you have to research and learn on your own. While assignment feedback is valuable, I don't feel it fully prepares you for the complexities of real-life client situations.
Final Thoughts:
Overall, I am truly grateful for everything I’ve learned through the readings and assignments. While I don’t yet feel 100% "industry-ready" to jump into the field, IDI has given me a solid foundation and a passion for design that I didn't have before. I’m thankful for the experience and the knowledge gained.

I am almost finished the course and have loved each step. I especially enjoyed learning how to properly make sample and material boards. The sketch up advanced module, while frustrating, was also very fun to learn. I will say it is a pretty lengthy program and would be prepared for it to take longer than anticipated, especially if you are also working full time as I was. The only thing I would have appreciated is having a live tutor for the sketchup extension module. It was very hard to explain issues and questions I had about sketchup over email.

The community is very helpful, nice and respectful. The course material is very thorough.

Informative and easy to follow along course material. The tutors are very helpful when it comes to any questions you may have. The Facebook page is the icing on top! If you are having trouble with an assignment you can find very helpful information on the page from other students.
