I booked a weekend stay

I booked a weekend stay, it seemed the best of both worlds partner likes Golf i like a spa.

Originally when we drove up, I thought we had taken a wrong turn and ended up in some sort of block of houses, No I was incorrect we were at the hotel, the front of the building is nothing like the back of the building ...

On arrival, we were given a room that didn't meet my mobility requirements But reception were fantastic and changed our room within ten minutes so that was great.

The room was absolutely fine and spacious, My only complaints were are King-sized bed that was 2 beds pushed together, so I kept falling down the crack as the mattresses were moving. The only thing holding it together were sheet. And our room wasn't very soundproof we heard everything outside our door and everything from our neighbors.

Spa area: Unfortutely i didn't get a chance to try any of the treatments as they were very busy the weekend we went and there was no availability But that can be blamed on myself, as I should have really booked ahead of time. But the actual pool / spa area, I found the spa was full of children splashing around throwing balls rubber rings in the pool, kids in the jacozy with bath toys... all things that children love doing Don't get me wrong bit I didn't expect that on a relaxing spa weekend, and was shocked the staff seemed like that was normal
.. The Pool also had sand in it for some reason.. no chairs to sit on or relax ( i think there were four if I remember correctly and they were obviously occupied by other people)

That aside, I decided to book a round of Golf for my partner. He was out on the course all of 40 minutes because there were so many people on the course he had to stand and wait constantly for people ahead of him to go , that was obviously frustrating so he decided to not bother... so instead we thought it would be nice to have a few drinks upstairs in the bar I can't remember the name of it, but the bar that overlooks the Golf course. It was very beautiful, well, it was closed on the Friday due to a private function that we didn't know about And then it was also closed on the Saturday. When asking staff why they said that it was closed at 4pm that day (a saturday) so went downstairs to the bar area there to find it very crammed Overcrowded and no seats, the only seats that were available were in the restaurant and people were eating.. food, it felt like wetherspoons if Im honest with you, there was nothing luxurious about it.

However , on the upside , every member of staff that I encountered what generally helpful and friendly.

This hotel really needs to step up its game. We wouldn't be back the other thing I noticed also is that the spa area doubles up as a locals gym/spa so it was very busy with people , not actually staying in the hotel. It just wasn't what was advertised on the website A big thumbs down from me i'm afraid if you're looking for a relaxing weekend nice drinks nice food and a great atmosphere please look elsewhere.

SWIMMING POOL was AWFUL…

The staff were fine..the food was okay...but the swimming pool was very much in need of an upgrade. Not enough chairs to sit in
No hooks to hang robes or towels.
My wife was there for a special retirement with 2 daughters. They could not go in. It looked like it needed a good scrubbing .
They will NEVER be there again.

If I could zero stars I would - AVOID, DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY.

I feel very sorry for my employer, they paid alot of money for the staff to have a great Christmas Party, and seeing all the staff was great. However the meal was appalling :-

No quality control on the meals that went out, just thrown on the plate.
The food wasn't of great quality, more like a cold white mystry meat. McDonalds or KFC chicken would've tasted nicer.
It was very clear due to the number of events being run by the hotel they couldn't cope. There was a long wait for food, there was also a long wait in between courses.
I would expect the to be things like cranberry sauce on the table to accompany the Christmas dinner, but it wasn't.

Totally appalling, for the price.

My husband booked this for a luxury…

My husband booked this for a luxury surprise birthday break. It was a total waste of money. First room offered had window mechanism broken so window could not be shut securely & room backed onto car park. We later found out this room was offered to another person after we had rejected it. They were then booked into a renovated room, sadly we were not so lucky. Second room had sink panel not connected properly but didn't realise til that night why. The sink leaked. Reported in the morning & it was fixed by that night but whole room was tired, tatty & in need of TLC. Shower grouting mildewed etc. House keeping supplies erratic. First night 1 teabag & 2 sugar sachets between 2 of us. Second night only decaff coffee. Sunday carvery disappointing. Starters great selection. Carvery itself, plates cold & meal cold after a couple of mouthfuls. Even roast potatoes not hot when first cut. Desert selection disappointing. Staff pleasant but waiting staff remove plates whilst you/your partner are still eating. Overall felt cheated - cost a lot more than our usual budget choice & didn't deliver value for money or relaxing, luxurious break we were anticipating. Complaints ignored as was email sent afterwards. AVOID.

Tatty needs some tidying up very tatty looking.

Just come back from there New years eve function at a cost of a £149.00 per person ,firstly the first thing you will notice is how tatty the front of the hotel looks drab very dreary large damp on the left building front to the left handside of the main entrance.Secondly when booked in not a mention of any free wifi and saw no paperwork in the rooms of this for hotel customers .The room was a decent size but had to ask for the remote control for the Tv set also had to ask for more shower gel and shampoo as they seemed to offer just one of each for two people which was not enough.Went for a coffee and drinks to the bar before we all went to our rooms bar was not really staffed so had to search for someone to serve us.Once my party had checked there bags in headed of to there swimming pool which was free for hotel guest another area that needs a clean up but sorted a purpose specially for the kids. The new years eve dinner was below par not very hot had lots of strange slim black carrots on the plate with the beef i had ordered but seemed to not understand people like potatoes with a beef dinner .They served some square thing that was very small and tasted nothing like a potatoe.Had breakfast included in the price was a self service of a continental choice or cooked foods was okay anly good thing one can eat as much as you like .Overall for the money have stayed in cleaner Travel lodges with a better breakfast .Considering we spent well over a £1000 for a one night hotel stay plus the bits they threw in wont be going back there again for sure..This hotel needs a make over as another issues was walking along the first floor towards the stairs the floor squeaks like something i have never experienced in a so called 4 star aa hotel ..
