Extremely disappointing experience with MINI/BMW

We took delivery of a brand-new MINI Aceman in September 2025. On the very first drive, the car developed an extremely loud metal-on-metal grinding noise from the front passenger-side wheel. The noise has continued intermittently ever since, sometimes becoming so loud that I have had to pull over.

BMW Sycamore Peterborough have inspected the vehicle more than once but have been unable to identify the fault. On the latest inspection, they attributed it to "stone damage" — despite the alleged stone damage being on the driver-side/front-right brake, while the noise has consistently come from the passenger-side/front-left.

I even managed to record the noise on video when it returned at its worst. The recording clearly captures the grinding becoming progressively louder before a distinct clunk, after which the noise immediately stops.

I raised a formal complaint with BMW Financial Services, only to ultimately be told they were unable to recreate the issue.

I appreciate intermittent faults can be difficult to diagnose, but "we can't reproduce it" is not an acceptable resolution when the fault has existed since the day the vehicle was handed over and I have provided video evidence of it happening.

My biggest concern is safety. I am being left with a vehicle producing an intermittent, extremely loud grinding noise while BMW has still not established what is causing it.

Very disappointing from a manufacturer I expected considerably more from.

Recent purchase

I called to enquire about a vehicle which I was told it was not ready and the sales person Asif agreed that he will make provision to view the vehicle on arrival he was flexible allowed us to test drive the car. We liked the car and Asif was very helpful throughout the purchasing process . He was communicating on regular basis. Asif’s customer service was excellent.

Absolutely disgusting

Today i rang Mini garage to enquire about a car this was on site but not yet prepped for display however Alex said we could come and view it and test drive it which we did. When we arrived at Mini we spoke to a guy and asked of he was Alex and he abruptly responded no. We then found Alex in the BMW side who dealt with us. Whilst chatting to him he was looking up and smirking to someone and whilst sorting the deal out he then told us his manager who was sitting next to us had emailed him with figures. This really made me mad as if he had imput why didnt he just come over. It felt like it was very back handed and this made me leave the showroom. We will never go back again. I have purchased two minis with them and always been very happy with the service but this was terrible. As we were two woman it felt like they were taking us for fools. They are the fools as they have lost a car purchase and lost customers.

Dreadful experience

Dreadful experience.
Took over 8 hours to replace tyres despite tyres being ordered a week earlier.
When I collected the car I saw that the windscreen was cracked, it was fine when dropped it off.
I Showed the Service Manager CCTV image on my car when I left (no damage), and also pointed out the BMW visual check that also ticked the box that glass was ok when entering service area. Despite this, the Service Manger claimed it wasn't damaged on their premises and refused to take responsibility. I was offered 'goodwill' of insurance excess which I declined. I just wanted them to apologise and deal with it, they didn't.
I would not recommend Sycamore BMW servicing in Peterborough, they cannot be trusted.

Very disappointing experience at BMW…

Very disappointing experience at BMW Peterborough.

My partner and I visited the showroom recently as we were seriously considering purchasing a vehicle. When we arrived, the person on the front desk was already speaking with another customer, so we decided to walk around one of the cars while waiting for somebody to become available.

Despite several members of staff clearly seeing us, nobody approached us, acknowledged us, or asked if we needed any help. We then stood by one of the desks for a few minutes, again with around five staff members nearby, and still nobody spoke to us.

The complete lack of customer service was genuinely shocking, especially for a premium brand dealership. We eventually decided to leave and went across the road to Audi instead, where we were welcomed immediately and received excellent service. We are now in the process of buying a car from them instead.

Really disappointing experience overall and not what we expected at all.

1st ever visit to BMW Sycamore

1st ever visit to BMW Sycamore.

As someone who had really terrible experience at Wheels Motorcycles can honestly say this place is great! Joshua was extremely helpful with some insurance suggestions when I mentioned I was looking into the S1000RR, super friendly and all staff were welcoming, smiley and created a lovely atmosphere in store even for a Tuesday. Spoke to Owen who is their technician, also an absolutely wonderful man and will be back again when I’m ready to buy the RR.

Great experience and lovely staff, highly recommend!

Witham Branch

Witham Branch

I have a BMW R1300RT and it was low on oil. I checked the manual and it was not very helpful and I could not find the filler cap - it was hidden behind panels that had to be removed.

I went into the Witham Branch and spoke to Carl the Technician and James who helped book the vehicle in. I asked them how to gain access to the oil and remove the panels.

I was taken into the workshop and Carl clearly explained what needed to be removed and how to do it. We assembled the vehicle after topping up the oil and it was extremely useful.

Carl was excellent and explained everything clearly and in terms I understood and explained that it was not the easiest thing to accomplish.

They could have made me feel daft but neither Carl or James did. Thankyou to you both.

I could not have been happier.

I visited the BMW Peterborough branch…

I visited the BMW Peterborough branch to view the new iX3 after building it online. I wanted to see the quality in person before placing an order. My husband and I walked in — not dressed up, but certainly serious buyers — and not a single member of the sales team acknowledged us. We spent over 20 minutes looking around the car with zero interaction or offer of help.

What made it worse was watching an older couple walk in after us and immediately get greeted enthusiastically with “How are you? How can we help?” They even said they were just browsing and killing time. Meanwhile, I was genuinely there to spend over £70k.

Was it because I was a woman in a pink jumper and leggings? It honestly felt like stepping back 20 years. I ended up going home and ordering the car through an intermediary instead. The car itself is beautiful, and I’m looking forward to receiving it in December — with several extras that would have earned someone a very nice commission.

Very disappointing experience from BMW Peterborough. Don’t judge a book by its cover !!!

This is the worst car dealer I have…

This is the worst car dealer I have encountered to date. I inquired about a vehicle and explained my previous bad experiences (and there have been multiple) with BMW very clearly. They assured me that this time would be different. We arranged a part-exchange with additional funds for the finance; I paid the deposit, signed the agreement, and prepared my car for the exchange.

The week after I paid the deposit for AF22YBX, they claimed that extra bodywork was required on the car which would leave them at a financial loss. They told me they would have to "get back to me" to decide if they would even continue with the sale. I was shocked—I had already paid the deposit, signed the finance documents, and prepped my vehicle. I was promised a same-day response but was ignored from Tuesday afternoon until Thursday afternoon, despite calling multiple times.

When I finally spoke with the manager, David, I reminded him that I had tried to purchase an X4 three times in a row and had been assured there would be no mishaps. He explained that they would be at a loss, and if BMW sold cars at a loss, they wouldn't be in business. I rebutted that they also wouldn't be in business if they took deposits, signed contracts, and then withdrew because they failed to perform basic due diligence on bodywork repairs before listing a product. The issues—a cracked windscreen, paintwork issues, and boot damage—were all easily noticeable at a first glance. I received no offer of compensation despite being ignored for two days. When I pointed out that the signed contract is legally binding, he essentially claimed that the lawyers who drafted the contract likely ensured the dealership wouldn't lose out or face problems in such cases.

Due to the distress and friction caused by this communication, my mental health suffered. I eventually stated that I would accept the cancellation of the car sale if they still followed through with the part-exchange of my car as originally agreed, so as not to cause further problems. I even noted that I would refrain from leaving a bad review if they treated me fairly on that point. The manager stated that the cancellation was fine and mentioned that he had already had a 15-minute conversation with "higher-ups" to cancel the sale anyway. However, when I brought up the part-exchange again, he responded, "Oh, that... we won't take that in; there is nothing we can do with a Mercedes," essentially leaving me stranded after I had already prepared my vehicle.

Throughout the conversation, there was almost no mention of compensation. When I stated that I wasn't trying to create friction, he responded by saying there was "no need for bad blood." I have done nothing wrong to BMW. A friend who listened in on the call noted that the manager made it sound as though we had "inconvenienced each other," when in reality, they inconvenienced me greatly. I am now unable to follow through with the part-exchange at the agreed price. I am tired of BMW and intend to escalate this because I am completely unsatisfied. This has been a terrible experience; they seem to forget that these are £30,000+ purchases and should come with a professional level of service.

Here are list of violations that have occurred:

Breach of Contract: Under UK law, the "Hire Purchase Agreement" became binding the moment it was signed on March 12, 2026.

Consumer Rights Act 2015: Traders cannot use "unfair terms" to hide behind "loss of profit" to cancel a contract after a consumer is legally bound.

Consumer Protection Regulations 2008: It is a prohibited "misleading action" to agree on a price, take a deposit, and then attempt to increase that price once the customer is committed.

Paid £100 to reserve an approved used…

Paid £100 to reserve an approved used '24 plate car for 48 hours at Sycamore BMW Peterborough, only to be told the next day it had been reserved by somebody else 24 to 48 hours earlier.

Despite the fact there's no option online to reserve for more than 48 hours, I was told this other customer would be coming in to see the car in the next 24 to 48 hours — giving him somehow up to 96 hours. The salesman was noticeably hesitant when asked exactly when this other customer was coming in.

Then the sell: "My manager could give you a phenomenal deal on a new one!" Turns out that'd be £27k more

Bait and switch? You decide.

📢 Extremely disappointed...

📢 Extremely disappointed with my experience at @bmwmotorrad and Sycamore Motorrad Witham.

📅 Reported a coolant leak in June 2025. Was told the earliest booking was end of July due to no technicians. After being away in August, I booked for 2 Sept.

Since then:
❌ Missed deadlines
❌ Poor communication
❌ No courtesy bike until last minute
❌ Complaint ignored
❌ False blame put on me by dealer

I have written proof and expected better from the BMW brand. Still no goodwill or accountability.

This company just can’t be bothered

This company just can’t be bothered. Returning calls is something they just can’t manage! This is the third occasion for me. Talking to a member of the sales team and asking for him to take responsibility didn’t even work. Just didn’t want to know. I am finished with Sycamore BMW!

Recall Work Done Well

I took my 18 year old car in for a recall - they treated me like I’d brought in a much newer car that I’d bought from them. Polite, professional and helpful throughout. I’d heard (and seen) horror stories of other dealers causing lots of damage during the recall work, I cannot fault anything, it was easy from booking to collection.

Beyond happy

I ordered my M2 from Sycamore in October 2024. The vehicle was due to arrive mid March 2025 but it arrived early in February 2025.
David Luff was really helpful, supportive and kept me updated through the process.
I am beyond happy with my dream car and the customer service I received.
