Please stay clear of this pub and company I was going to rent a room above the pub and the pub is owned my a company called stone gate I paid £700 to secure the room but it never happened I contacted the landlord Mark Daniel’s over several weeks and months and he promised to pay me every penny back I contacted my bank but they wasn’t able to help me I even contacted the so-called stone gate to get them to step in but nothing I have text messages and bank statements proofing my involvement with mr Daniel’s but to this day he still owes me £400 he’s now refusing to answer my calls so please stay clear of the royal oak pub and the stone gate has a company they are terrible and ripping people off I have put a claim in to small courts and also contacted rip off Britain for help because this company and landlord need stopping

The Bell Tanworth-in-Arden now a terrible pub. The SURGE CHARGING means I'll never visit a Stonegate pub EVER!!

Unfortunately we had a really bad meal in the Commodore, Lowestoft on Saturday 2nd September, I definitely would not recommend this place for food! Dried out peas, cold chips, cold gravy, luke warm chicken and bacon pie, dried out steak. Finally “once we had finished eating” we were asked if everything was ok with our meal. When we said no, and told them what was wrong with it, all they could say was “did you say anything when someone came back to check if the meal was ok”….. well no, actually we didn’t because no one came and asked if everything was ok. From the moment the food was served to when we had finished, we did not see a member of staff! All four plates were not finished, this is very unusual for us as we don’t like to waste food!

I wrote a complaint on the Stonegate web site, pretty much saying the same as above, and would you believe the following was the response I got:

“ we regret to hear that you had this experience with us. Please don't hesitate to reach out if there's anything additional we can do for you”.

Poor, really poor customer service. My advice would be to avoid at all costs!

As someone who visits various pubs and chains as I tour the country, Stonegate doesn’t fare well, but it is not low that I would avoid it. Given its size, I would expect it to be better, but often the staff don’t seem as pleasant as I would expect.

They also discriminate with discounts where ex-forces workers and civil servants can get discounts, but individuals working in the defence industry nearer to the forces than civil servants cannot get a discount. But then civil servants are often given preferential treatment - probably through doing the company a favour.

I would see Stonegate in line with how many see the civil service in comparison with a reputable business, but not as bad as those working for the DWP.

Exensive beers compared to others. Barman explained this is because it is a tied-pub. Madri came in at £6.10 and Thatchers Haze £5.40. Might be normal for a Stonegate Inn but pushing the boat for us. The food however we know to be fine and fairly priced. Two meal offer at £19 no complains. Sunday roast is measured portions and you need to book well ahead. The Old Inn, Clevedon.

Amazing pubs with something to suit every individual

Queens Head Cullercoates North Shields. Good seaside position so as new locals we were curious to try. We had an evening fish meal with wine. Surprised how expensive it was considering mediocre food (chips very soggy) and tatty surroundings (gaping holes where ceiling and wall paper pealing off surfaces and very scruffy paintwork in corridors, hand dryer not working in ladies and no paper towels as an alternative.). We discussed with waitress who said there was a plan to improve interior but could not advise when. We would be embarrassed to take our friends and family for a meal there. Waitress did ask how the food was and we said fine as we didn’t want them to change the chips which would have meant the rest of the food going cold. She was also the only member of staff serving people and was busy. Waitress was sympathetic and hard working

The local pub to me is a part of the Stonegate group. Consistently the food is of poor quality and over priced for what you get. The cask ales are often stale and flat. There is a lovely open fire but over the last few years they have rarely lit it which is such a shame because it creates a cosy atmosphere.

Was in this pub on Friday, ordered food with with the family. One of the dishes came with a cigarette butt in the food. When we rang back to complain to the manager Gemma in wickford quart pot couldn't even muster up an apology, blamed it on their supplier "bid food" and couldn't even tell us where to find the complaints procedure policy.
Absolute rubbish company should be avoided at all costs. We will be pushing this as far as we can go make it known publically what this group is doing and how little to no care they have in their Managment.

Disgusting food at the West port hotel in linlithgow, the cauliflower was brown and the broccoli no better. Nobody asked if our overpriced meal was okay. I will never return and would advise everybody to do the same.

Poor services and food poor for veggie £11 for a mushroom in a bread bun oh and chips

We took the Pub bad condition, spend lots of our saving to pub. Suddenly rent increased we said fine suddenly beer prices increased we said fine suddenly give us notice for no reason we said fine at end we returned the pub very good conditions cost us all our savings in return we didn’t get full deposit or a appreciation.

They are bunch of Fools or Modern Slaves they treated us the same unfortunately they never understand we are not slaves we are your bosses (Tenant’s) who pays your wages we are working 24/7 and you guys never available.

Top to bottom useless running on others funding. Hopefully soon will closed down or someone else take over to understand the business & respect their Tenants.

I have contacted the Stonegate Group that own the Brass Monkey pub in Plymouth regarding a complaint about a staff member they continue to ignore me not customer friendly?

This is a continuation of my previous review, concerning Stonegate Group, as I don't have any space in the last review, and I want it to stand.

Today I went onto Trip Advisor and once again checked The Crown, Sheringham, and Trip Advisor have deleted all 40 fraudulent Stonegate reviews, by the two cheats, namely Nick H and Nick. As previously stated (read review below) both reviewers appeared to be Managers, travelling around either East Anglia (Nick H) and the South and South East (Nick) and leaving fraudulent reviews to promote, make better, raise the profile of Stonegate pubs and bars only. Neither one reviewed any other establishment, and both travelled fair distances to do their deeds, thus work involved, one would think. So, all evidence was supplied to Trip Advisor, who did, actually, reply to me in my review here, stating that they take fraud very seriously, and would be acting. Low and behold: they did! Both have been taken down, and that is for all 40! The audacity and stupidity of Stonegate is clear, and I find it both brash and insulting, as well as illegal! The dictionary definition of what they did is, ''A type of dishonesty calculated to obtain advantage, generally financial advantage, by wrongful means''.

So, if any of you out there are reading this review, and are here because you have been ill treated by Stonegate or have a complaint about one of their pubs, then, as I said, go to Trip Advisor and see just what the reviews are like for that pub. If you see something that is contrary to what most are putting and what you have experienced, then click on the name of the person, and see what other reviews they have written. You may well find another fraudulent Stonegate employee writing promotional reviews this group! To report the review or reviews, click on the three dots to the right of the review, and it states, ''Report''.

I have read a lot of the grievances here, and unfortunately having also spoken to a young chap who worked for them, and was mistreated by them, I think this is how they behave; ruthlessly! My issue was simple; that they had taken over one of only four pubs in my town, and turned it into an expensive, money making rip off, where we locals cannot afford to go, and only tourists do! Sadly, tourists often forget that locals often suffer when money-making chains roll into town. What I found shocking was the number of fake reviews left supporting the rip off prices, and having exposed two, quite obvious, fraudsters, there are other reviews for this pub which are blatantly false and fake, too! The law on-line needs to change, as staff of these venues MUST realise that to leave a review is not allowed, and to leave review that lies, and falsely promotes does so to make money; illegal!

I also have to say, as others have here, that having also gone onto their Facebook page, Stonegate do nothing to allow people to contact them or leave reviews. They blank all and sundry! This is how this cowardly company appear to work, so is it any wonder that they manufacture positive reviews where they can? I hope they are caught out soon, but the more complaints here, and to BBC Watchdog, the better. And don't forget YOUR legal rights if this lot owe you money for bookings or meals etc, use Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act, which means call your Credit Card or Debit Card company, and do a charge back; simple! This means if they have taken money, as I read here, and not supplied the goods, you can charge it back! If there is a dispute, after paying, or you are owed money, then the last resort is the on line Small Claims Court. It costs very little, but is a court, and the onus is on the company being taken to court! It is only up to a certain amount, though. But, just check on line. And of course, there is Citizen's Advice, and Trading Standards.

Went to my local today (Keystones, York) and told Carling is now 50p per pint more. Before the budget. ! That is a sizeable % increase.

This has lost them a loyal customer. For shame stonegate. For shame. You are reducing potential profits as this customer was a genuine regular. I wonder how many others shall now visit the even closer supermarket instead.

This company has ruined my life & my family's lifes. Absolute despicable company who are killing the local pub trade one pub at a time.

Took on a pub in February 2020 and instantly thrown into unknown waters. Ei/Stonegate still demanding rent during closure. All of our support money was sent to them. We have taken on huge amounts of debt to give this place a go and we've been left out to dry. Our area manager only calls us when they have a problem with us. They are now threatening to kick us out due to backed payments which we have been working to resolve with them.

The building we are in is falling apart, the roof needs repairing but yet to fix or care.

Please, anyone thinking of partnering with them, DO NOT DO IT. Please do not make the same mistake as we did. They are the worst people to deal with and only have energy to collect your money. The local pub is well and truly dead if these thugs remain at the wheel.

I'm left broken & heartbroken with the whole expiriance , what a waste of 3 years...

I took the worst pub in my town in 2018 and put my entire life savings into it to turn it into one of the most popular bars in town I managed to barely keep my head above water through 2 lockdowns while paying huge utilities to keep the business going

In January of 2022 I was given notice to leave In 9 months meaning I would be jobless and my family homeless

I left early in August to start a new job with a helpful landlord. Stonegate persecuted me heavily for this and have now set balifs after me for almost £9000 that I simply don't have and am set to have my life ruined yet again by then with small childern to support

The whole thing is corrupt i had one of the busiest pubs and still left with nothing but debts and depression I have never worked so hard as I did running that pub and left being treated like dirt

THE CROWN & CROOKED BILLET - Christmas dinner ruined by bad food and staff who do not know the definition of hospitality.

First and last time booking at this pub where food kept me up all night! The only meal eaten all day and so I know it was due to what I ate there.
Some of the most mean spirited staff I have ever come into contact with.
