Stayfriends.de are scammers

Stayfriends.de are scammers. My mother’s membership was cancelled via email — she suffers from dementia — but they refuse to withdraw the claim. They even send a debt collection agency, Debitor, which also takes part in these fraudulent practices. Outrageous — don’t fall for it!!!

StayAway instead of StayFriends

StayAway should be their name. Extremely dubious business practices. Once you sign up they automatically renew you subscription without explicitly giving you an opportunity for deciding if you want that. When you tell them you want to cancel, you will be told that you could have canceled via the little button in the fine print at the very bottom of the page (don’t bother looking in the menu or your profile - it’s not there). Then, when you click on it they will tell you that you can only cancel your membership when you’re dead (yup, really), insolvent, or when you’re under legal guardianship. That’s not what the law says.

The reality is, you don’t have to die to cancel - you can do it anytime and there’s nothing they can do about it. Just write them an email. And warn everyone you know to not use StayFriends. Don’t give them your money.

Fraudulent and/or scam

Like others below I was taken by surprise for being charged for the next year without prior announcement or warning as is normal with reputable websites. The choice to cancel automatic extension and therefore automatic charge is nowhere to be found. This is at best intransparent and dishonest, at worst fraudulent and a scam.

It is a good idea with a bad…

It is a good idea with a bad implementation. They might want to take a look at other similar websites. All the adverts are annoying. Hard to add class photos. You even have to search around their main website to find out how to contact anyone to get help. I send a help request.. I curious to see how it goes, though I not holding my breath. And their FAQ is a joke. I will not be renewing my membership after it expires.. might as well just stick to FB or other social media websites.. better chance of connecting with old classmates..

Total scam! Cancel your membership whilst you can!!

Total scam!! Cancel your membership whilst you can!! I was unaware that membership renewal was automatic, as I had not set up a direct debit mandate, I thought it was a one-off, WRONG!! I overlooked to cancel my membership before the year was up and am now being bombarded with threatening payment demands and court proceedings. My €12 has quickly turned into over €70 and increases daily!! Honestly, this is more grief than anticipated, realistically one dos not get anything for their money, membership is useless! Has anybody not paid and managed to cancel membership in a peaceful way? Grateful for your replies.

Total Scam

Total Scam. Horrible (non existent) customer support. Extremely difficult to locate how to delete your account. Thought I deleted everything but suddenly got a collection notice. Avoid!

I no longer wish to stayfriends with stayfriends.de

I no longer wish to stayfriends with stayfriends.de. I also took the Gold subscription but I doubt that I properly understood what Gold subscription small-print meant. My everyday German is good but I struggle with specialist jargon. I would have thought that a failed payment (I think the card expired) would simply trigger a subscription cancellation and warning thereof. As it is this got moved into collection and cost me around 3 times an annual Gold subscription without me realising that anything was going wrong. I am surprised that EU and German law allow such blatant exploitation of customers, especially old people AND during this COVID-19 pandemic. Owing to their ephemeral nature perhaps it is time to put upper age limits on online commitments, such as "over 18" and add "under 65" to online agreements? Legislators of the EU and Germany note - I suspect that you can change the nature of such agreements; please do so asap!
