While we don't verify specific claims because reviewers' opinions are their own, we may label reviews as "Verified" when we can confirm a business interaction took place. Read more

Digitalisation going backwards due to weak network

This is the not contactable company providing the fabric for the UK’s digitalisation going backwards. For more than ten years my gas and electricity smartmeters and in-home display (IHD) were working absolutely fine, then this stopped at the beginning of 2024. Eventually, my smartmeters were replaced by my deficient energy supplier, and whilst only the electricity smartmeter was fully commissioned to send data, the IHD only works intermittently, as the Smart DCC network is weak, even though my new IHD is closer to the smartmeter than my old one.

NB: strange that the average score for this firm is three stars when every review has given only one star?

Not so Smart

This company is responsible for the Smart bit of Smart meters , it is paid for it’s services ( or in my case lack of ) by energy suppliers and therefore us , the consumer . I had a smart meter fitted 3 weeks ago with the promise from EON Next of no more having to submit meter readings . Well , this is not true , the smart display ( IHD ) will not connect with the meter and the meter will not connect with EON Next . EON state that it takes DCC 12 weeks or more to make these connections , and if still not connected to go back to them . DCC on their website state that they will not accept communications from us consumers , only from suppliers . In other words they are a monopoly , charging us for a service that they are not providing and can’t be questioned about it . They are clearly not fit for purpose but are allowed to carry on with the blessing of OFGEM . So be warned , sometimes smart is not that clever . It is said that we get the service we accept , we’ll I do not accept this awful service .

Capita run company who can't help providers transfer smart meter connections

This company is part of Capita. It is meant to control the infrastructure around communicating to and from smart meters.

Smart Meters should be transferable between energy providers. They are not.

I am on my third. Three providers, three smart meters.
Smart Energy GB, another quango(?) says this lack of transferability is a myth. It is not a myth. I have not had a successful transfer without a requirement for a new meter.

Update: Now on my fourth smart meter. Still completely unable to find who has overall responsibility for this roll out. Smart Energy GB is essentially, a marketing outfit and nothing more. BTW, my fourth meter has stopped communicating with the cheap and nasty gadget that is meant to give me useful data about my energy use.
